all hail queen bey

So obviously I jumped at the chance to watch a lot of Beyonce music videos make a Beyonce GIF. She was my first favorite musical artist (I was an OG Destiny’s Child fan; even back then, we all knew Bey was queen), and she still ranks in my top five. Yes, I’m one of those crazy fangirls that will always love whatever new content she puts out. It’s not my fault though- I can’t help that everything she touches turns to gold!

I chose to make a GIF from one of my favorite videos of hers, Countdown. It seemed an appropriate choice for Design Week- it has clean lines, crisp colors, and every frame is cohesive and clearly intentioned. Unlike a lot of her videos, which are richly designed and full of drama and flair, Countdown is simple and to the point. I love the 60s aesthetic and classic costumes throughout the video, and knew it be easy to find a clean and colorful clip to use. The result is eye catching in its neon colors and represents perfectly the theme of the video:

Process:

If you have a decent internet connection, making GIFs is super easy.

First, I loaded the video on Youtube. Then I opened Quicktime player, and chose ‘New Screen Recording’ from the drop-down menu. I dragged the box to only select the video, which makes editing much easier.

After stopping the recording, I trimmed the clip and saved it so only the portion I wanted remained. You could skip this step and trim later on, but trimming at this stage will decrease your file upload time.

Next, I went to Giphy. I clicked ‘Upload’ and uploaded the video! Giphy will then convert the video into a GIF. If you messed up trimming it in Quicktime, you can fix that mistake now with their trim toggles. Then click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page, and you’re all done. You can download the GIF from Giphy or use the link they provide you to share it.
