Alright, in order to complete this assignment you are first going to need some type of audio editing software. For this tutorial I will be using audacity. It’s free and it’s user-friendly, so I recommend it (the url to download it is: http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/, it works on macs as well so no need to worry about it not working if you have a mac). Once you have your audio software on your computer you are all set to start the assignment. For this assignment, you will need to take recordings of sounds that you hear throughout the day. Since I have an iPhone, I just used the voice memos app that already is installed on the phone when you purchase it. To record something on this app, all you have to do is press the big red button on the screen to start it and to stop it once you are finished. Once you have stopped the recording, a box will pop up for you to rename the recording. Name it and then hit save. When you have recorded all of the sounds that you need, click on each recording and it the share button on the left. It will give you options as to whether or not you want to send it as an email or as a text message. I sent mine as a text message because I have a mac so it connects to my iMessage. That way I could just drag it onto my computer once the text message was received. The files will be downloaded as m4a so they will need to be converted into mp3 files. To do this, go onto a file converter website (I used http://www.zamzar.com/convert/m4a-to-mp3/) and convert the files to mp3.
Once you have your recordings on your computer and converted them to the right format if it was needed, open audacity and drag each file into the program. It will automatic load onto it. Organize the sounds in the way that you choose. Then, to position them so that they play one after the other, click on the sound bar that you want to reposition and drag it to the place that you want it to play.
Do this for all of your sound recordings. You will then want to fade each recording in and out. To do this, click on the recording that you want to change and then click the effect button on the top of your screen and scroll down until you find the fade in or fade out button (whichever you want to use at that moment). Once you click one of those buttons the clip will fade in and out.
Repeat this step for all of your sound clips. To listen to the entire audio track after you have finished editing it, place your cursor at the beginning of the track and hit the space bar. When you feel that you are finished with it, go to the top of your screen and click the file button. Then, scroll down to export audio and click that.
A menu will come up that will allow you to change the name of the audio track and the location that you want to save it in. Change whatever you like and hit the save button. Once you have saved it onto your computer you are now ready to upload it onto sound cloud!
