Assignment Bank #1

Stars: 3 1/2

I have been doing a lot of these audio assignments in the same fashion. For this one, I also recorded what I wanted to say in a voice memo, sent it to my laptop, uploaded it to Soundcloud, and embedded it into this post. It was very difficult to find just one song that has a meaning behind it. However, when I was thinking, this song stuck out to me in particular. I have recently fallen back in love with this song, so the memory lately has been strong. I even want to get matching tattoos with my sister regarding Amy Winehouse and her music. This night resonates with me so greatly, as it was one of the first nights I was up alone and my parents let me do something. There is nothing better than your parents trusting you and singing your heart out in the car with a loved one late at night.

What Metallica Means to Me

This is a little recording about my feelings towards Metallica’s song, Master of Puppets. It’s a pretty well-known song, and just something that’s fun to play loud honestly. It makes my adrenaline start pumping and it generally makes me think of doing something active at a fast pace. I typically listen to this song and some others before sports competitions as they give me a fun little boost to get me in the mood to compete.

Other than just the mental preparedness this song gives me, it also inspires a little bit of resilience and resistance in me. Talking about someone being the master of puppets is talking about the puppeteer being in full control, and with our government and their manipulation and monitoring, I sometimes feel like many people in the public spotlight are just puppets and aren’t very free thinking, which is unfortunate. The “puppeteer” also comes in many shapes, money, greed, blackmail, or other motivating and controlling interests. It’s unfortunate that there is so much control in our world in some ways, in other ways it’s a good thing. Most everything in moderation can be a good thing, the tough line to draw is where does the moderation start and end.

Tell us what “that” song means to you!

For this audio assignment I used two different sites, YouTube & SoundCloud. The steps were honestly pretty simple. Let me show you!

I started off by first finding the video of  the song on YouTube. Once I found it, I headed over to  SoundCloud to record what it means to me. As you can see in the screen shot the volume of the video is turned down really low. This is how I managed to capture the layering sound effect. I lowered the actual video volume and made sure that my computer volume was up high. This allowed me to in a way talk over the music. On SoundCloud I first clicked the upload option up on the right. That took me to the option of uploading something or recording something new. I chose to record directly from the site.

All I had to do was hit record and start talking. Once I got my recording done, I selected the upload and share option. This allowed me to tittle my song and select how I wanted to share it.  Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 2.03.13 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-05 at 1.41.16 PM

After titling my song I then saved it. SoundCloud then automatically uploads your new recording.

The rest is super easy and simple. Copying the links to embed into your post. Head on back to YouTube and copy the video link, post it into your blog post. You’re then going to head to SoundCloud and do the same.

What A Song Might Mean to You

Lots of people have a particular song that reminds them of certain situations, I know I do! Embed the video of your particular song and a short recording of why you really like the song, or what makes it importatnt to you (I would recomend Soundcloud for this assignment! Have fun!!
