Emoji Mashup #ds106

A post shared by TyraB (@tyraaa_ds106) on

Step 1: Find some friends who are willing to model/pose for you
Step 2: View the different emojis and select one to copy (you can select the emoji or your friend can select the emoji)
Step 3: After choosing the emoji, find a picture of that emoji online or take a picture of the emoji (I chose to take a blank picture on snapchat and insert the emoji as a sticker)
Step 4: The friend will now copy what the emoji is doing to the best of their ability. Take a picture of friend posing (you may want to take a few pictures and compare them to make sure the emoji and the model look similar)
Step 5: Using a photo collage app, upload the two photos next to each other to compare them. They can be side by side or one on top of the other. (I chose to use the app Layout app)
Step 6: Save your mash up creation and upload it for others to see.

Enjoy!

IRL Emoji’s!

For this ds106 post, I completed a Mashup assignment – ‘Mashing Friends and Emoji’s

We were instucted to take a picture of one of our friends, or just a person that is in the moment doing something exactly like an emoji, and then to mash them together for comparison.

In the example image, it seems that photoshop (or other similar computer photo editing tool) may have been used to put a large emoji next to the photo like it for comparison, to create one larger image. To create my comparison images I took a different (easier) approach. All photos in this post were taken using camera phones (Iphone 6’s and 5c), and then, using Snapchat, I added the relevent emoji onto the actual image for a cleaner look.

Rather than just posting one, I thought I would make a few!

This one would make a brilliant reaction image.

I believe he intended this selfie he sent me to look sarcastic, but it really didn’t!

Who does it better? Dan? Or Meg?

Snapchat is a social media type app (available for IOS and Android) where users can send images to each other, and chat. But unlike other similar types of app, the images and chat-logs aren’t saved…

Using the new ‘Memories‘ feature of snapchat, I loaded my chosen images into snapchat from the camera roll on my phone (Iphone 5c), and added stickers to the images in the form of the relevant emoji’s! I then dragged them into place and resized them to make them larger and more visible. I wanted it to be an obvious comparison, while making sure the emoji was large enough to easily identify, while not covering any vital parts of the photo. I then saved them back to my camera roll (after sending them to a few people!) and uploaded them into the post. Easy-Peasy! I highly recommend this method, as there are no difficult editing softwares involved. The pictures can even be taken through Snapchat, making it even easier!

I also submitted this as a tutorial, as this was the only one mentioning Snapchat as a method.

Good luck everyone and get snapping!

Friends vs Emojis Tutorial

I really enjoyed  this assignment and would recommend it for anyone who loves emojis..and/or their friends! This assignment is pretty self-explanatory, so I knew what I wanted to do for it, but I think the biggest struggle in completing it is finding a good resource to construct it with. That is what I am going to help students with today!

So this first couple steps of this assignment are simple.

1)Find an emoji/emojis you would like to use.

2) Find a friend/friends you would like to use.

Now this is where I come in to help. I found an extremely helpful wesbiste called BeFunky. This is the site I used to create my emoji/friend mash up.

When you get to the homepage of the site, there are three tabs at the top of the page.

Click the Collage Maker Tab.

Once you click the Collage Maker tab, this screen will pop up. You select the third icon on the side bar with the four squares. This is the display layout tab. Once you get there, you click Create Your Own.

Once you do this, your blank canvas will appear. Then you go to the first icon on the left hand side to import pictures from your computer.

Once you have imported your pictures, they will appear in the image manager.

You simply drag them wherever you want on the page. You can layer them or align them; it is up to you. You can do the same with text boxes. There is an array of fonts and colors to chose from for your text.

Once you are satisfied with your creation, you go to the top of the page and click save. From the save button you can  export it to social media or just save it on your computer.

And there you have it! Hope this helped people who are stumped with what to use to make their creation!

Here is my final product using the site!
