Play By Play Tutorial

I used Wonder Share Video Editor to create my very own play by play commentary for this assignment.

First, I scoured YouTube for a football video that would work well. The video I chose was of the 1986 NFC Championship game between the NY Giants and the Washington Redskins. Since I wanted to create just a short clip of the game rather than the whole game, I needed to edit some video.

I uploaded the entire game video and then isolated the part of the game that I wanted to use. Next I needed to remove the audio track for the video so that I could add my own. I simply right clicked on the video in the time bar, and selected “Audio Detach”. This left only the video portion of the clip in the editor.

I then needed to add some crowd noise. I went to www.freesound.org look around. I found a good sounding clip that was once recorded at the Syracuse Carrier Dome. It was steady noise throughout the audio clip so I was confident that I could simply butt it up against itself in the timeline and not hear any transition in my final product.

After I successfully uploaded my crowd noise, I was ready to record my play by play onto the video. I did not write a script because sportscasters need to be quick and call what they see as they see it. I used a fade out effect at the very end to ease the ending. And that is all it took to create this little gem. I will say that the hardest part of the project was finding the right video and sound effects. With this technique, anyone can add their voices and sound effects to whatever video they like.

Play By Play

Using video from a football game, add YOUR voice as the play by play commentator. Use the names of the players you know, or just make up your own names! Use colorful commentary between plays, and use a minimum of 4 plays. Here’s your chance to call the big game!
