Visual Assignments

These are a few of my favorite things

We tend to surround ourselves with things that make us happy. Take a photo in your house or workplace and then find a creative way to make your favorite things about that space stand out. No limit to how many things you highlight, but make it interesting and intriguing.

My Favorite Lyric

Have you ever heard and song and a particular lyric stood out to you right away?  I think all of us have had the feeling at least once.  For this assignemt use one of those lyrics that stood out to you and make it into a visual.  Use some kind of background that represents the lyric and place the lyrics over it in some way.  Be creative! But make sure that your visual product evokes the same kind feeling that the lyric of the song does.

10-Step Photo Challenge

Take ten steps in any direction and with each step take one photo. Think about angles and lighting to create interesting photographs. Don’t forget the Rule of Thirds! Create a collage in a photo editor.

Emojis IRL

Choose at least 3 emojis (from the provided picture or one you find on Google) and recreate the action/face with a self-portrait or pictures of other people! Make it as close to the picture as possible! Try to make a story out of the emojis you choose. For example, a birthday surprise (normal face, shocked face, cake, etc.)

Larger Than Life

Take a picture of an everyday object and make it look larger than life.

Putting Disney into Focus

Put a famous object from any Disney movie into focus. Blur everything around it, make the color pop out, BE CREATIVE! In your blog post, explain why you picked that object to focus on.

Looking at yourself

Draw, photograph, or paint your self portrait.  Make it interesting, in some way tell a story about yourself within the image.  You can use one or mulyiple images to complete this assignment.

It can be realistic or abstract.

4 lines, 5 dots, 1 curve

Use drawing software a picture using only:

  • 4 lines
  • 5 dots
  • and 1 curve.

The picture can be representative or abstract. Play with size, colour, texture and overlaying – so dots can be large discs or tiny pin-pricks, they can look like spots or holes; curves can be deep or shallow; lines can be thick or skinny, long or short.

Graphic Gift

Find or scan an old advertisement (high resolution) and create a piece of cool clip art by extracting and cleaning up a particular element. Be sure to use a PNG file type to preserve transparencies, and try to make a high and medium resolution version. Inspired by Phil A Go’s awesome Toyota Corona Graphic Gift.

Design to Shock

Using Photoshop or Gimp, combine at least two images (you may also use text) to create a shocking message.
