Rather than making animated GIFs from movie scenes, for this assignment, generate one a real world object/place by using your own series of photographs as the source material. Bonus points for minmal amounts of movement, the subtle stuff. See a bunch of examples at http://cogdogblog.com/2012/02/10/photo-gif-peanut-butter/

Brewing Passion Ice Tea

I did the visual assignment “Photo It Like Peanut Butter,” which is worth 3 stars. To do this assignment, I checked out a DSLR camera from DTLT (just to experiment with) and I set it to “continuous shot” mode that way I would be able to kind of …

Crane by a string.

Here you can see a Gif of an origami crane circling around its string and I like that my settings have caused a motion blur, that was not intended in first place.

Photo It Like Peanut Butter. is the assignment idea, that made me create the Gif.

I am fascinated by this …

The DS106 wheels keep turning

In my day job today I was running a wee holiday course for teachers in digital storytelling. We use the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life rather than our usual base for this. It is nice to get folk out and about taking photos and video. (we use ipad 2s …

Two Frame GIFfing

For reasons I fail to devise, on my trip I’ve had an eye for making GIFs, maybe it is traveling be train in that motion that is repeated. I’ve been collecting photos that seem like they might work. sometimes I try to adjust the angle to make a pair that …

GIF Evolution of ManyMe

The Evolution of ManyMe

Inspired by my recent DS106 assignments I decided to take two of the projects I had completed this week, ManyMe and Go Daddy_Wheee, and use the skills and final products I created to visually illustrate the evolution of my ManyMe photograph. (Assignments: Multiply Yourself

GIF a Trip

Last night, I posted a photo set of images taken every mile for 20 miles.

Today, they’re alive and in color.

Central IL is pretty flat, so you can drive fast.

This was the hardest GIF I’ve done to date. First, I imported everything into GIMP as layers. Then, I …

Natural/Unnatural PhotoGifs

Two more for the GIF pile of ones made not by downloading video clips, but using my own photos– the ds106 assignment is Photo it Like Peanut Butter:

The Strawberry Snow Monster LIVES! GIFs!

The Abominable Pine Man was spotted in the vicinity on December 15, 2012. Unlike the Lock news Monster, Sasquatch, the photos of this super natural creature ares sharp, clean, and obvious no fabrication or some buffoon in a fur suit. cc licensed ( BY ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog In time the monster morphed into a floppier version cc licensed ( BY ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog But it was not invincible, in fact, it had pretty much transformed into a sad shell of its former glory: cc licensed ( BY ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog Until today! It’s back, reformed, and now something more of a Squirrel Bear Hybrid: Just for the sake of the ds106 GIFfest, I call this a sporting event GIF … who’s gonna stop me? When will the GIFfing stop? NEVER!

The Faultless Feed (GIF) Train

I spotted many a grain elevator in my cross country travels, but this one in Lawndale Illinois caught my attention the most, for the faint “Faultless Feed” on the side of the grain elevator, plus as a bonus it was right on Old Route 66. While snapping my photos, I saw the lights down the track. I had to book it and run under the dropping barriers to get a series of photos of a passing Amtrak train. What could be more suited for doing animated GIFs than trains? We need something like this for the upcoming ds016 GIFfest (what is that) (it’s a secret) (shh). So we have the new All Aboard The GIF Train assignment hoisted in a new corner of ds106 “Train kept a rollin’ all night long…” “Down around the corner half a mile from here, see them long trains run and you watch them disappear…” …

GIFing the Streets of Liberal

On my trek home earlier this month, I picked off of the map a route in Kansas that would take me through the near Texas border town of “Liberal” – which I read on a plaque has nothing to do with politics– it was in reference to the sharing of water liberally by the first settler. It’s created draw of interest is being where Dorothy’s house (a replica thereof) sits so there is a lot of Oz-ification cc licensed ( BY ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog There are a number of Dorothy statues on the streets. I was intrigued of some over the shoulder photos as maybe she gazed wistfully at a fun shriner convention across the street: cc licensed ( BY ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog This lead me to do a series of rapid shots in succession to get the blur of traffic going by Dorothy, …

GIFs from the Road

Gotta feed the animated GIF bacteria that lives in my gut. I had a few sets of photos I have taken over the travel span that I took series of things in motion for the express purpose of making them animated. I did these in PhotoShop via the method blogged…

Assignment (Visual): Photo It Life Peanut Butter . . .
I confess that I’ve never before seen the appeal of animated GIFs. Weren’t those the goofy little hyper cartoon characters that ran rampant in PowerPoints in an early era?
So I’ve had a bit of a change of heart,…

Sliding into Summer

The end of the school year is always difficult for me. Whether it’s due to the fact that I’ve lived my life by the typical North American school calendar stretching back as far as my memory will take me (K-12, then college, followed immediately with my first teaching job), or…

Animated Water

During my hike today to see Dark Hollow waterfall (in Shenandoah National Park), I did some more experiments with doing some rapid sequence shot of the water detail. It was cloudy, but ay ISO 200 I set the aperture open enough for fast shutter speeds 1/1250, 1/3200 to freeze the…

Speed reader – Visual Assignment 347: Photo It Like Peanut Butter

I used an old Weekly Sh?nen Jump as source material for Speed reader. I like it’s economic black ink on pulpy multi-coloured paper style. I also thought the Weekly Sh?nen Jump imagery would be able to withstand a drastic reduction in colour palette; a byproduct of balancing the constraints of…

Circling ‘Round Teacher Created Learning Resources

How often do we feel like our work will never be done in education?

I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to escape the circular reasoning behind the notion that “teachers don’t have time to create their own learning resources.” I believe that notion to be…

How sick will my kids get?

Well, I have always seen the .gif in different forums and across the Internet, but never have I made one for myself.  Man are they fairly easy to make.  I was quite surprised when I saw the steps and how to go about doing it.  But than the magic happened.  …

I made a gif!

Oh! How I have always wanted to make silly animated gifs!
So, after hours and hours of trying to follow useless tutorials and obnoxious hundred-step processes… I realized that I had Adobe Media Encoder.  The rest took like 2 minutes.  Tops.  Don’t I just feel the fool!
Anyway, here’s my…

A .gif from me to you

This assignment was pretty fun. It’s not often that I get to play some guitar for school work. I just had to play and have my friend hit the multi-shot button on my phone camera for me. Then just uploaded it all to Flickr and put them together with an…

Visual Assignment: Photo It Like Peanut Butter
For this assignment, my friend used a multi-burst setting on her camera as I spilled my drink out onto the ground. With this, the camera creates multiple photos in a row. Then with the series of photos, I was able to great this…

Photo It Like Peanut Butter: Visual Assignment 347

I wanted to make something that related to the class. I don’t know if you can see it but the ds106 site is on the screen. Also, sometimes I feel like my computer is my pet and this really brought it to life. Made it seem like it was snuggling…

My Animated GIF Day

We interrupt this regularly updated ed tech blog for a series of animated gifs. Consider this experiment in digital storytelling an indication that I’m thoroughly lost in the labyrinthine halls of ds106. Come back throughout the day for updates on how my animated gif “journal” is going.
I created this…

Photo it Like the Peanut Butter

Say it Like the Peanut Butter has been a long standing popular ds106 assignment- capture a key moment in a movie in the form of an animated GIF.
Over the summer I did some experiments with using my own photos to generate animated GIFs, and I am making this into…
