ds106 radio bumper

I made my bumper using Audacity. I actually had a lot of fun doing it and it it taught me how to use it better using Youtube as my tutor. I ended up downloading the tune from Incompetech, which is a website made of entirely free music and sounds. I used my phone to record my voice and edited the clip by shortening it and creating a fade out.

Super Radio Bumper

This week we were assigned to create a radio bumper. Although I hate these because they are the sign that the music has stopped for a while and I have to listen to ads it was pretty funny and fun to come up with my own idea for one! For this assignment I recorded myself with some super background music that I downloaded from iTunes to my computer. One I recored myself using the iPhone voice memos app I uploaded my file to Soundcloud and made sure to allow downloads! Enjoy my radio bumper!

Radio bumper

I finished the radio bumper assignment for ds106 radio. I felt really stupid recording this lol. I thought Pour some sugar on me was a good song to use and I’m starting to get a hang of audacity. I never really thought about how much work must go into radio in general. It’s harder than I thought.

My Radio Bumper

This week we had to come up with a radio bumper for DS106 radio. Since this semester is Super DS106 I said Super DS106 Radio in my bumper. It was easy coming up with what to say but I with it was more original that just my name and radio name but I am not a creative audio person. I didn’t want just my voice so I added the Incredibles theme song to the background. I was not looking forward to this assignment but once I got it all figured out then I started to enjoy it.

Super Bumper

This week, we were tasked with creating a radio bumper for the DS106 radio station. In doing so, we were to use Audacity to make our bumper and then upload it to SoundCloud to be shared. I actually had a harder time downloading my bumper than I did creating my bumper. I couldn’t figure out where I was going wrong with the LAME Library installation, but really, I kept pressing close instead of open, halting the installation process, my bad.

To create my bumper, I first used the voice recorder on my computer to record my message. But I did not want my bumper to just be my voice because that would be boring. So, I went online and found free sound effects. From there, I downloaded the sound effect Transformation Invasion and added it and my voice recording in Audacity. From there, because I do not like how my voice sounds on recordings, I changed the pitch in my voice and it sounds like a different person, which is completely fine by me! Then, I listened to the finished product and downloaded it and wallah, my bumper was complete!

On The Radio

The purpose of this assignment was to create a bumper for the ds106 radio station.

A bumper, as defined on the assignment’s page, is “a short recording that identifies the radio station with signature music or an expression that makes sure the listeners know what they are tuned into.”

For my bumper, I chose to briefly introduce the radio station with an instrumental playing in the background. I chose a song titled, “Best Friends [Instrumental]” by Various Artists. It is originally from the movie Madagascar. I chose this song to take a clip from because it is a very calm instrumental and I hope it would invite listeners to feel they can share with this radio station. My overall goal for the bumper was to let listeners know this was a station where they could request songs and perhaps tell the station host a little about their story.

I used Audacity to overlap my voice recording with the instrumental. At first, I imported both of the audio files I would need for the final product. After importing them, I used Audacity’s Trim tool to shorten the instrumental’s audio file so that it was the same length as my voice audio file. Once I was satisfied with the final product, I exported the file as a WAV file to be inserted on my blog.

Go ahead and take a listen.

This assignment was worth 4 stars and the link can be found here.

Archives

For our audio stars this week, I know our focus was supposed to be on material we could use for our radio shows and the class theme in general. In keeping with that aim, I chose to create another ds106 radio bumper that also advertised my groups upcoming radio show!

My first step was to find some background music. I really wanted something dramatic but in the end, I felt like a radio bumper needs to be more upbeat so I chose some bass sounds. Next, I had to figure out what to say. I tried recording it freestyle a few times but just kept tripping over my words! I decided to actually write down a short little script to read off of and off I went. I used Soundcloud to record the clip with the music I chose playing in another tab while I read from my script. I still tripped over a word for some reason (see if you notice which one!) but at least it doesn’t sound too scripted!

Second Radio Bumper

So, since we didn’t do the last bumper as part of the official assignment bank, I created another radio bumper. We haven’t yet come up a title for our show, so I kept it just themed to DS106 and spying. I did something a little different than last time. The music especially is pretty cool. It was found at the Free Music Archive. The track, which I’ve edited a little bit, is called Noir Theme by Pk Jazz Collective.

Sexspionage Radio Special Bumper

For this four point audio assignment, I created a specialized radio bumper for my group’s upcoming Sexspionage spy radio show. I found the task relatively easy to complete, with diction choice being my longest task as I had to present our idea in an appealing manner which encourages listeners to follow along. The four sampled sounds from free-sound were a implemented very quickly with little hassle now that I’m more familiar with Audacity. Have a listen below, and check out our radio show in the weeks to come!
