ds106 Radio Bumper

This was a fun assignment that allowed us to try and creatively sell ds106 radio.  I actually began by creating the concluding fun tagline for the show, making my final decision by choosing a phrase that rhymed with “six”.  I then created the introduction with the station description, trying to keep the line short and sweet.  After writing out the two sections I recorded the statement on Audacity, keeping in mind the importance of trying to sound normal (rather than stretching to mimic some sort of fictitious “radio voice”).  Finally, I visited freesound.org to look for suitable background music, ultimately choosing a piece that was very close in length to my piece of verbal dialogue.  I then created a new stereo track and copied this music piece into Audacity to allow the piece to play concurrently with the dialogue.  I played around with the audio levels to make sure that the music did not drown out my narration.  Once I was satisfied, the final exported result was this lovely advertisement.

2 Stars assignment

Length of audio: 17 seconds

I downloaded the Audacity free audio editing software and installed it on my computer.

Then I downloaded and installed the required Audacity plugin to convert audios to mp3.

First I thought of sentences that I wanted to say as a radio presenter. I came up with the following sentence:

“Dear folks, you are listening to love songs from DS106 radio on FM 106. Call us to dedicate a love song to your loved ones. They will love it.”

It was not an issue to record an audio with the help of Audacity. It’s really simple. The challenging part for me came when I had to play two audios simultaneously, first my recorded audio and second some love music from FreeSound. I searched Google for help with Audacity. The search returned the following Youtube video tutorial that proved really helpful.

After watching the tutorial video, it was simple, I put both the audios together and exported them to a single mp3 audio.

Following is both of the audios playing simultaneously:

I uploaded the audio to my Soundcloud account. Here is an embed of the soundtrack from Soundcloud.

Sick Beat

Just trying to have fun with this project Audio Assignments Create A Ds106 Radio Bumper (4 stars) trying to challenge my self while having fun.

* My main objective for this project whether I finish or fail to finish this project is to learn more about using Audacity, learn how to manipulate sound and challenge myself.

I am not even sure I did this one right but is there any “Right” way have to have an introduction:

But this is how I did it:

  1.  Open Audacity (by clicking the short cut, it will end up looking like this when you open it up)

2 . To Add a sound  go to the bar very top of the “Green” bar where their of options such as File, View ect. Select  “File” then “open” for the first sound.

3. To add a second sound go to the very top menu bar and select  File >Import> Audio (this I repeated several times)

The result: Fantastic (of course)

I am really disappointed that I did’t really get to use this but I think that is is worthy to be noted:

I like this because there is a lot of little sounds making up a big group of sounds. No one sound is perfect but together they make up one good sound.

In this assignment I wish I would have been able to successfully been able to fad the sound in and out. From the looks of the sound wave I did’t get it quite right. I think the main problem was when I selected the section that I wanted to fade in on it selected such a big chunk of it. When I went to do the fade out it would not preform the action. I just want the reader to know every time that I write about something that was holding me back from the projects true potential  that I did try several times before calling it quits. This project to me about 2 to 3 hours, I think I spent most of the time looking for sounds that would work together well. How do people find the perfect sound to mesh together anyway? I guess you would have to have some kind of musical genius. For this project as a side story I almost used the Media Editing lab and Vocal booth at the University of MaryWashington but when I got to the room someone was already using it. If we continue with the subject of Audio I would like to discover if there is any useful equipment that can be used.

Intro to TombCast Radio… TombCast!

This was so much fun! Looking at the other audio assignments that’s I’ve been working on this stands out as one that I really laid down some ground work and it’s fitting that it set the stage for the RadioCast. Enjoy if you dare! OR wait for the whole show to come out. :)

Audio Assignment – Create A Ds106 Radio Bumper

This is the first piece of content I’ve produced for our radio show. I’ve done a generic bumper for ds106 radio, but this is specifically for our show, which is a news show. I wanted to emulate that news channel sweeper, and I think it came out pretty good.

The music is from Graham Walsh, who had by far the best news sweeper sound I could find. After getting that into audacity, I recorded what I was going to say, and also brought that into audacity. The envelope tool makes it incredibly easy to lower the volume of audio and bring it back up, and that’s what I did to lower it as I was talking.

Rodeo Radio Bumper

This is my radio bumper for the rodeo radio show that we have for our group radio project.

In this assignment I embedded the song “It Feels Good” by Drake White in the background to give it a fun effect.  It also is a pretty good depiction of the radio show.

The bumper was not too difficult to make.  I was able to embed the music much better this time than I have been in the past.

Turning Tumbleweeds Radio Bumper

This assignment’s radio bumper corresponds with my group’s show, Turning Tumbleweeds. The intention in this clip was to sound more like Danny Keys, the character I will be using within the show, so hopefully my voice came across as deep and different enough to be apart from my own.

I found the background music and wind on Freesound and organized the bumper together in Audacity. Up to this point, I feel like I have made significant progress in making effective audio for assignments. Hopefully I can reflect that while creating my part of the radio show!

Mrs. Dean Gets Her Own Radio Show!!

My character is a loving wife and mother of three. That’s when I created  a radio bumper  for her, I made it a cooking talk show on the radio. She has collected a lot of homemade recipes through the year and she wants to share them with whoever wants to listen.

I wrote out the script on a Word document, and then I found a banjo clip on YouTube to play in the background. I pulled up Sound Cloud to record it. I read off the document while I attempted my best country accent….at least I tried right? haha

Sneak Peak of our Radio Show

For this assignment Sally narrated a radio bumper for her upcoming group show by The Gals of the West. The background music is from freesounds.org. This is hopefully to be used in the final radio show product with a commercial following this bumper. I really wish my laptop microphone wasn’t so bad because at the beginning Sally’s “voice” sounds like she is about to cry but it’s just because the quality is a little choppy.

This assignment is 3.5 stars.
