DS106- Album Cover Remix

Original Assignment Link

THE ASSIGNMENT:  The assignment was to f ind an iconic album cover and remix it to represent a something different.  It could be a play on the title, image, genre, etc.

THE PROCESS:  I went online to find cartoon characters to match the description of what I was going to drawl.  Once I found the perfect one, I began to sketch the idea for this iconic album cover.  When “slim” and “shady” were finished I then began to drawl the name tag, in order to tie the cartoons together.  I then took a picture of my drawling and uploaded it to my WordPress blog.  Not very hard to do, but very time-consuming.

THE STORY:  As soon as I read about this DS106 assignment, only one album cover came to mind, and that album was Eminem’s album the  Slim Shady LP.  I grew up listening to this CD and thought it would be fun to re-create this album in my own way.  I wanted to make it seem as if “Slim” and “Shady” were two people, coming together to form a music group.  I chose their characters to match their names as well. “Slim” is designed to be some slim guy, and “Shady” was designed to look like a shady guy, when I was finished I wanted to tie it all together with something Eminem’s real album.  I then found a picture of a name tag from Eminem’s first hit single “My name is,” and decided to make that the center of the Album cover.  I could have just went on the internet and put these images together in Photoshop, but I thought that it would take away from my own personal creativity that I wanted to add.  In the end, I was very satisfied with the outcome of this project.

Here is the original album cover, along with the original cartoons:

WEEK 9

For my first assignment I choose to do one from the mashup group . The assignment I choose was the Remix an Album Cover. For this assingment i choose to use a kanye west alum cover because he is my favorite artist . I used his 808 & Heartbreak cover , in this album there is a song called heartless and on the cover there is a picture of a broken heart white gloves pretty much tearing it apart . I choose a sentence from the song heartless , “how could you be so heartless”, and wrote a somewhat funny answer. I changed the color of the text to go with the one that was already on there and i paint brushed the  808 & Heartbreak because i felt it didnt go with what i wrote . so here is the cover …

ds106 Crusader

Here is my first pass at mashing up Saxon’s Crusader album cover for ds106. Next semester I will have to spend a lot more time getting better at Photoshop/GIMP because it is all too evident I still suck. Anyway, join the ds106 crusade to rid the land of boring ass classes :)

New York Rock City

DS106 DESTROYER

Grant Potter, Mikhail Gershovich, GNA Garcia, Jim Groom on their tour through NYC Fall 2011.

Inspired by Grant’s amazing retrospective of his tour of NYC last night on DS106 Radio, I decided the NYC Jam deserved it’s own album cover. This is my second album cover mashup made in response to Jim Groom adding a DS106 “Remix an Album Cover” mashup assignment a couple days ago after seeing the “Chronic Youth” cover discovered by Mikhail.

It’s nine o’clock, the radio’s the only light!

Remix an Album Cover

Mikhail Gershovich pointed me to this crazy album cover remix of Sonic Youth’s Goo done by Juciy:

And in the event you don’t know the original, here it is:

After seeing it, I immediately thought of a #ds106 design/mashup assignment, and tweeted as much.  And before I could even submit the assignment, Michael Branson Smith beat me to the punch by actually doing this imagined assignment:

So, with all this awesome, I finally had to pull the trigger on at least submitting the assignment, I’m not sure if I feel creative enough to do one just now, I have to get my ass in shape. And I have to blog about Portland!!
