Excel Tutorial for my mom

I’m begging everyone to not watch the full video. I thought I knew Excel, but this tutorial really humbled me LOL. My mom recently started a new job. She hasn’t really used Excel in… 15 years? Now she uses it everyday. She asked me for help, but I never have the time to help her. Then I realized AFTER making this video, she basically knows how to do this stuff (probably better than me because I acted like this was my first time using it, but it’s been a long day so just be a little nice). My original video was 17 minutes long, and I tried uploading it to YouTube but my computer… sounded like it was about to take off so I had to stop.

All I did was screen record for this tutorial and threw it into iMovie to trim it down a bit.

This assignment was 4 stars but it should’ve been 15 because my computer ~hated it~

A tutorial for my Grandma

https://youtu.be/CbzJ6a9f-gg

For my last assignment I chose “Make a Tutorial for you Mom” but with a twist. I decided to take something that my grandmother always asks me how to do. My grandmother is a lovely woman but she has no idea what to do when it comes to technology. One of the things she often forgets how to do is how to save a picture that someone has sent her to her camera roll. I created a video demonstrating what to do. Words can say a lot but actually modeling and showing the steps and process that you are doing can go a long way. Due to this, I decided instead of taking a video of myself explaining to her how to do it that I would record my screen so she could see the things that I was clicking on. I did this on my phone which already has a screen record option and then sent it to my laptop where I uploaded it to YouTube.

Teaching my Mom

For my last assignment, I did Make a Tutorial for your Mom. In this assignment, I had to create a tutorial to teach my mom how to do something on technology. My mom is really bad with technology so I was really excited to be able to do this assignment.

I was thinking about different things that I could teach my mom when I finally figured it out. I decided I was going to teach her how to crop a photo and send it to be on email. My mom loves taking photos and send them to me, but she always has unnecessary things in her photos and has to call me every time to explain how to send a picture.

For this, I decided to just use the screen recording application on my iPhone since that is how my mom would be sending picture. It was really fun to be able to make this tutorial for my mom and I can not wait to send it to her next time she asks me how to send a picture using email!

Sending Money via Phone Number

The video below explains how to send money to another Bank of America account. My inspiration for this video is mainly because I am tired of waiting 2 days for my mom to transfer money from her account to my bank account, but she won’t take the time to learn how to send money based on someone’s cell phone number. So I created this tutorial for her to learn how to do this. I am finding making tutorials is a lot of fun. I enjoy helping others.

This assignment was worth 4 and a half stars.

Agent Smith – Tutorial

Make a tutorial for your mom [4.5 stars] [13.5/12 total]
http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/make-a-tutorial-for-you-mom/

This video is a tutorial for my mother, niece, and nephew since I am not always home when the kids want to play my game systems. One likes to play on my playstation3, while the other on the ps4. To do so, however, requires switching the HDMI cable from system to system in order to play. Countless times, when I’m not home, they are bugging me about switching the cord out, so this tutorial is for that purpose!

Make a tutorial

This video assignment is worth 4.5 stars, and it asked you to create a tutorial for your mother. I choose to create a tutorial of how to share your screen to my friend REspag because sometimes I want her to teach me some math and she can not do it. So first I look it up how to do it online and download the program from Google, because I needed it for another assignment. It was pretty easy to use and this will also cover one of the requirement to create a tutorial for the class. Once I recorded the video I uploaded to YouTube, and I am no going to describe what I did because it is recorded in the video.

Make A Tutorial For Your Mom: How to Use a USB!

The inspiration for this video assignment came from none other than my mother herself!  I came across a USB drive in a folder on the kitchen counter, and asked what my mother what it was for.  She told me that the USB contained lesson plans from a friend for the social studies class she recently began teaching at the local community college.  The only problem was, she had no idea how to access them!  Thankfully I was home visiting for the weekend, and was more than willing to whip up a tutorial to help use her USB.

My tutorial is split into three parts: The introduction, the explanation of how to insert the USB, and the explanation of how to access the files on the USB once it is inside the computer.  Each part was filmed in a different way.

The first part of my tutorial was filmed using the webcam on my laptop through Movie Maker.  You simply record the video, and it imports it directly into Movie Maker for you after it is recorded!

The second part was filmed using my iPhone.  No screenshots for this, I simply recorded the video (horizontally!) and then uploaded it onto my computer and in to Movie Maker.

The final segment was made by using the screen capture software Expression Encoder.  First, the video had to be recorded.

After recording the screen capture, the file had to be encoded and exported in to Movie Maker.

With all three parts recorded, all that was left was to import the clips into Movie Maker and do a little editing.

Finally, the completed video was uploaded to Youtube!

Week 4 Summary Found!

Well I found this hiding in my drafts. To be honest I never double check if it was published because I was in such a hurry. I went to post one of my assignments tonight and found that this was a draft that was never published. I dunno what happened, probably something to do with my scattered brain. Since I didn’t do it when I originally posted, the files are also now on youtube. I don’t know how much credit I’ll get for last week but here’s the original post. As before the original is in black and new in blue.

Wow did I get my butt handed to me. Editing video took me much longer than I expected. That and uploading seemed to be a bit of a pain in rear. WordPress is really giving me trouble. The “auto imbed” feature of Jet pack doesn’t like me. (6/19 this was fixed) Of course with me being up in Ohio, it was rather difficult to get most of this done in a decent manner. Well here it is folks hope you enjoy.

Mortar to the sound of Sabre’s

This assignment was the “Inanimate Motion” Assignment. I decided to have fun with my new mortar and pestle. This reminded me of making a gif, but having the ability to give it audio.

What Makes you laugh?

This one is self explanatory. I love this movie. It has some of the best one-liners.

Simple DSLR tutorial…I mean really simple.

Ok most parents have a learning curve with technology, especially things with lots of buttons and functions. My DSLR is one of them. Yes, they aren’t that complex….but if you’re used to a kodak disposable…well that’s a different story. Though in my mother’s defence she is not the only one who has mashed the mode knob and was confused why it wouldn’t take the picture.

What skills you got?

Ok i decided taking a video of me taking pictures would be boring. So I decided to show off some of my gear and my finished works. I know similar pictures may be on the web, but I assure you, every picture in this video I personally pushed the shutter button.

Tutorial for my Mother

Today my mother actually asked me how to get Spotify onto her iPhone so that she didn’t have to use her data to listen to her music. I decided that would be a perfect tutorial video to make since she will actually use it. I used Snagit to capture the screencast and photobooth to capture the video of me and iMovie to edit it all together.

DS-106 Choice Assignment 1: Make a Tutorial for Mom

Mom needed to know how to upload photos to Walgreens and have them printed out in store. This video pretty much sums it up!
