This is one of my video assignments
This is one of my video assignments
This assignment was one of the hardest assignments with trying to figure out what to do. The concept seemed easy with it being that you just have to take a 5 second film about anything. This means that you have to have something quick to film like a quick joke or gag; but I just couldn’t think of anything that funny in that short amount of time.
Then I remembered my dad’s plan for everyday life that he always says before he goes to work. However, I didn’t want it to feel scripted; so I just asked him what he planned to do on that day and secretly filmed him. He just so happened to say his usual plan of “Coming up with a plan to take over the world”, which he heard from “Pinky and the Brain” which is an animated tv series about 2 mice. The main character “Brain” said that phrase and now my dad always uses it.
After filming my dad, I imported the video into iMovie; added a visual filter (because it was dark footage), and then posted it to Youtube.
Overall, even though the video is a little longer than 5 seconds at 14 seconds. I am satisfied with the end result and I’m happy to have such a funny dad.
This week we are required to complete 16 stars worth of video assignments and 10 of the stars must involve the western character I created this semester. As such, for this video assignment I acted as if I were my created western character, Talie. You can learn more about Talie here.Ā I chose to complete this 5-second film assignment because I thought it would be fun and I would be able to use a western themed joke to fit my characterās personality. Talie is a cowgirl in the little town of Tombstone, Arizona. She works on her familyās ranch and takes care of all of the animals such as the cows, chickens, etc. I thought the little joke I chose as my 5 second film was fitting for a rancher even though it is a bit cheesy. It is a bit longer than 5 seconds but I hope you get a little laugh out of it!
To create this video I used windows movie maker to display images and overlapped it with a recording of my voice acting as my western character saying the joke. Then I uploaded it to youtube so I could embed it in this post. This assignment was worth 4 and a half stars contributing to this weekās 16 star requirement.
For one of my final video assignments of the week, I decided to complete 5 Second Film! This assignment is simple, asking you to make a short, 5-second film capturing a joke, special moment, etc. I do not believe it should be rated for 4.5 stars given that there isn’t much video editing involved, so I rated it lower. However, this assignment now rounds my total stars up to 19.5 stars for these past two weeks.
I decided to take a video, yet again, of my pug. She is such a character, and I knew that I could capture a quality moment in her life worthy of film. This particular movie showcases her expert begging-skills. Notice how her eyes expertly follow the chip, never breaking eye-contact. [Not pictured: We ended up giving her a chip. What kind of pug mom would I be if I didn’t share my food with my best friend?].

I just recorded this video on my LG G2 phone and uploaded it to Twitter. Also, thanks to the new statistics tracker implemented on Twitter, I can now see how many people have viewed my Tweet and directly interacted with the video. Thanks Twitter for making me more aware of my social media presence!
Since today’s schedule was too hectic for me to attempt today’s Daily Create task, I thought I would do the next best thing and post two video assignments for the price of one. Don’t worry, they’re both cut from the same cloth, although one of them deviates from the intended theme. For starters, this particular challenge, worth four-and-a-half stars, recommends that we do the following:
Make a super-short, five-second film; basically enough time for one gag, bit, or joke. See examples (ALERT: Not G-rated, generally) at http://5secondfilms.com/. Or alternatively, try your hand at creating a five-second version of a major movie.
For this assignment, I decided to make two “five-second movies,” both in the Doug Walker style. The first of which is actually a “five-second anime,” of 1987’s Kimagure Orange Road, and the second is a straightforward mini-film, of the 1992 movie, Stay Tuned, starring John Ritter and Pam Dawber, with the latter one being put up for star consideration, and the former being made just for fun. The same steps apply to making both of these projects, though, so forgive me if the signals are mixed, to say the least.
The first step to making a five-second movie is to download the necessary footage, using whatever conversion sites you can find. In the case of KOR, I registered an account with Kiss Anime, before finding the episode I was looking for, that provided the scene for my “movie.” Following the site’s directions, I right-clicked my mouse over “480×360.mp4,” and saved the link for myself. As for the intro, a quick search on YouTube of any opening sequences to the show led me to another video, that I would download using the website, SaveClipBro.com, which also helped me get a copy of the intro in MP4 form, which was accessible for use on Windows Live Movie Maker.
As for the Stay Tuned video, I originally looked for a full-length version of the film on YouTube, with the intended goal of using SaveClipBro.com to convert it to WMV form so I could also use it on Movie Maker, before complications with the downloading process led me to find another cut of the film, also on YouTube, that’s split into six parts. I only needed the first and fifth parts for this one, since the first contained the opening credits sequence I was going to splice, and the fifth part concludes with one of the most infamous lines in movie history, effectively making it the basis for my five-second version. For the respective audio tracks heard in the closing credit sequences – namely, “Shout” by Tears for Fears and “Start Me Up” by Salt-N-Pepa – I typed in the URLs of two videos that contained those songs onto a YouTube-to-MP3 conversion site, and downloaded the tracks once the link popped up.
From there, it was all over but the editing, first with the audio tracks, and then with the videos. The first half of this phase went by rather quickly, as I used Audacity to find the best clip available from both songs, and edit out the rest. “Shout” had an issue during editing, however, as I had to normalize the audio for it to be heard properly. Once I did that, I saved everything, and exported the remaining audio as two edited MP3 files; as you can probably guess, the video-editing process was a bit more complicated.
First came singling out the parts of the opening credits I needed, followed by cutting the remaining footage out of the picture, via the “Split” and “Trim Tool” features of Movie Maker. After I was satisfied with the editing of one clip, I added in the other using “Add videos and photos” to make sure that everything was as seamless as possible between shots – the original “Five-Second Movies” Walker created back in the day had no transitions to their name, after all. Once everything was edited to fit the gimmick I was going for on both counts, I included the stereotypical scrolling credits sequence, instead of the straightforward cut-to-the-end credits, to attempt to provide a more cinematic feel. The fonts I used for the credits – specifically, Cooper Black and Gill Sans MT – were chosen because they best fit in with the fonts of either the anime logo, or the actual credits sequence of the original film, respectively.
After I became satisfied with how everything clicked into place, I saved it all, before turning both of my projects into their own WMV files, so they could be uploaded onto YouTube, in their own right. One usual round of paperwork later, and I have yet another double-feature for you to enjoy. So, if there are no further delays, let’s roll the flicks, and see what it all built up to for ourselves.
Tetsuo! Kaneda! Tetsuo! Kaneda! You hear those names frequently throughout this film. You even hear those names said more than Akira’s name. However, these two names tell a story. A story about friends, brothers almost, who are having a conflict and one them is trying to stop the other from being rampaging psychic monster.
For thisĀ four and a half star assignment, I decided to use the filmĀ Akira to tell the story of the film in 13 seconds like some of the YouTube videos I saw. We were talking aboutĀ Akira recently in the Graphic Novel course that I’m taking and having seen the movie, I figured Tetsuo and Kaneda calling out each other’s name from different parts of the film would be a perfect to tell the story in a short amount of time.
Creating this video project in Sony Vegas was fairly simple, I mainly used the Split tool to cut up pieces of the film and rearrange them in the order I wanted to.
Once I was finished with the editing and exporting of the project, I Ā uploaded it to YouTube where I gave it some description and a custom thumbnail.
I hope you all enjoyed the video!

For this assignment I had to make a five second film. I decided to make it funny and use my dog Dakota again. I dressed her up in my clothes like she was trying to be me and then made the sign to go along with it. She kept knocking the glasses off of her face but I eventually got the shot. She was a good sport while I was trying to dress her up.
5 Second Film- (4.5 stars)
Did you watch the Day in the Life of Caleb and Shadow? Well here is the video…
And guess who decided to post the bloopers…Chelsea. She’s probably still mad I stole her blog. She used clips that were to be discarded after my video was published. Chelsea sham on you!
The next assignment I did was called 5 Second Film worth 4.5 stars. The task was to make a 5 second video and I did mine about my character Caleb and Chelsea’s character Shadow. I tried to make it funny but it is really hard to make a 5 second video anything other than short haha. I have to say this might have been one of the hardest assignments.
Recently at The Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs has been hinting at a promotion that is coming up that is between Spongebob and Squidward. Then one day after work, Mr. Krabs called Spongebob and Squidward into his office and told him that he will be making his decision on who gets the promotion to Assistant Manager tomorrow. Squidward as always looked half interested, where Spongebob’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. That night all Spongebob did was think about the promotion and he couldn’t even sleep that night.
That morning Spongebob woke up, and it was the most exciting moment of his life. He went through he morning routine, but with a lot more excitement this morning. He knew that he could potentially be Assistant Manager of The Krusty Krab.
Little did Spongebob know that rumors have been spreading across the sea of an amazing sponge that makes the best burger patties in all of the ocean. Everyone was hearing about Spongebob’s ability to make an amazing Krabby Patty. One sea creature in particular heard about this, her name was Ursula. She the most dangerous villain under the sea. She was curious about Spongebob and wanted to meet him and see what all these rumors were about.
Ursula decided to create a plan to kidnap Spongebob. She sent her two eels Flotsam and Jetsam out to go find this sponge and bring him back to her. That morning Spongebob was happily walking to the Krusty Krab, excited thinking that he was about to receive the promotion. While on his way, he was spotted by the two eels. Flotsam and Jetsam swam up behind Spongebob and electrocuted him enough to keep him unconscious then, they put him in a bag and brought him back to Ursula.
When Spongebob awakened he was confused but excited to meet Ursula, but he did not have any idea of who she was. When Ursula asked him to make her one of his famous Krabby Patties, he was thrilled too. Spongebob completely forgot he was missing work, he was just happy to make someone a Krabby Patty. After she tasted it, the rumors were verified, it was the best meal she has ever had. Instead of letting him go back to bikini bottom, she decided that she was going to keep him against his will as her personal chef. Spongebob did not like that but he did not have a choice, he was held captive by Ursula, and for the next few days he was making Krabby Patties for Ursula all day long. Little did he know that while that was going on, The Krusty Krab was in trouble. Since Spongebob was not there, no one was able to make Krabby Patties. Customers got restless that they couldn’t have the best item on the menu, so they destroyed the Krusty Krab and burnt it to the ground.
After a couple days, Spongebob was able to find his way out. Ursula and her two eels had a huge Krabby Patty feast, they were so tired from all of the eating done that they all took naps forgetting that Spongebob was in the kitchen. He took advantage of the situation and escaped from Ursula’s cave. After escaping, Spongebob was lost and did not know how to get back to Bikini Bottom. Luckily, he ran into some monster friends of his from when he went to retrieve the crown from King Neptune. Patrick was with the monsters as well, Patrick got worried that he had not seen Spongebob in a while and went searching for him. Patrick met up with the monsters to see if they had seen him recently. Spongebob told his friends what happen and they gladly protected him and escorted him back to Bikini Bottom along with Patrick.
After returning home, Spongebob rushed over to The Krusty Krab, He saw what had happen to it, and was devastated. Mr. Krabs was depressed and went into hiding, while Squidward took at job at the local theater. Spongebob was also worried because he did not have a job to help pay the bills on his Pineapple house. Spongebob was desperate to keep his house, and in his desperation he took a job with Plankton at the Chum Bucket. Plankton took the Krabby Patty and change the name and sent out flyers to all of Bikini Bottom. The Chum Bucket became the most popular restaurant in all of Bikini Bottom, and was a success. Even with its success Spongebob was living his worst nightmare, working for the Chum Bucket.
