Hangover Part III in 5 seconds- (4.5 Stars)

In this assignment, we had to create a 5 second video that summed up an entire movie. It was not very difficult to create this, it was a lot of fun and simple. All I did was take the scene I wanted from the movie and put them into Windows Movie Maker and trim them down until I was able to get the sections that I wanted to show in the video. Then I added a title page and a credits page, I added some music at the beginning and end but I did not want to keep the music going on during the scenes so people could hear the action going on in the video.

Final Product:

The thought process to creating this wasn’t too difficult. I knew I wanted to do a funny and action-packed movie. I recently watched Hangover Part III, so it was the first movie that came to mine when I read this assignment. I also knew what scenes I wanted to use, I wanted scenes that had action, but were also very funny.

I absolutely love the Hangover Series, I thought every movie was hilarious and I enjoyed watching them both. Every time I watch these movies it brings back memories of the first time I saw them and the family and friends I were with. Even though I have seen all these movies so many time, every time they are on T.V. I will watch them without hesitation. These movies pack so much action and comedy into them, and that’s what I was trying to accomplish with this video.

Lion King in 5 Seconds

Hiya! The 5-Second Film (5 stars) was a lot of fun! It was tough though to get all of the footage in in 5-seconds. I wanted to add maybe a good 20 seconds of footage but I had to scale back. So I settled on 0.5 seconds clips for the whole time. When deciding what to use I tried to stick with most of the plot. So I went to YouTube and searched for the best moments in the Lion King and I literally took the first 3 videos that were in the search results I converted them into ClipConverter, then imported them into iMovie.

I went through and added just a small snippet of the videos to the storyboard. Once that was done I muted the clips. I searched for the Circle of Life song on YouTube and converted this song to an mp3 to use as the background song. Once I added the song to the filmstrip I then exported the file and uploaded it to YouTube!

I think it turned out really well! I really enjoyed going back and looking at the Lion King while deciding what to use for this assignment. Here is the final product!

Emperor’s New Groove in 5 Seconds

For the 5 Second Film assignment worth 4.5 stars, I chose to condense the Emperor’s New Groove in 5 seconds. Originally I thought this assignment was going to be really easy, but then I discovered just how fast 5 seconds go by. Another issue I ran into was that all of the best parts of the movie don’t really make the plot understandable when they are isolated, so what I ended up doing was just trying to convey the basic plot within the 5 seconds. The entire movie wasn’t available on Youtube, but I found the areas of the movie I needed to download. I used Video DownloadHelper on Firefox to download the video clips from Youtube. Then, I imported my clips in iMovie and trimmed them down significantly that when when they were altogether they only added up to 5 seconds long. After that I added in my title and credit sequences. Lastly, I found an instrumental version of the opening song for the Emperor’s New Groove and downloaded that from youtube as well. I trimmed the music down and had it fade down during the 5 second movie sequence. Then I simply “Shared” it as a file and then uploaded it to Youtube!

5 Second Film: Damn You, Window!

“Make a supershort, 5-second film; basically enough time for one gag, bit, or joke.”

My girlfriend’s cat, Binx, starring in “Damn You, Window!”

5 Second Film assignment

5 Second Film

For the five second film assignment I decided to make a video about the emotional stages I go through when playing online video games. I used iMovie to edit and photobooth to record.

NSFW Language btw. If you want me to edit it I can.

I Love You, Man in 5 Seconds

For my 5 second film assignment I choose to preview one of my favorite movies “I Love You, Man”.  I cut the important clips from the trailer into my mini movie.  If you have seen it, you should get the main idea.  ”I Love You, Man” is a comedy about Peter Klaven, featuring Paul Rudd, who is trying to find a best man for his wedding.

This is a screenshot of the process.

5 Second Film

For my LAST video assignment I did five second film which was worth four and a half stars.  This assignment was to “make a supershort, 5-second film; basically enough time for one gag, bit, or joke.”

My family stopped by to visit this past weekend so I used my sisters to help me make this video.   I decided not to have a set plan for this one because it would have ended up being awkward and not even kind of funny if we had one.  We are plenty goofy enough without having a plan.

To record this video I used the iPhone app vine.  I talked about this app in an earlier post and explained exactly how you used it.

We were celebrating one of my sisters sixteenth birthday while she was here so the reason she has things like a crown and ribbon on is because of that.  She also is in LOVE with One Direction (which she will hate me if she knows I shared that on here) so she got a preteen magazine all about them as one of her gifts.  The five second video I ended up recording was her reading a part of an article out of her magazine about them.  After her reading that I took a short video of my other sister and my friend who were in the room which I think is what sells the video.

Hope you enjoy it!!

That’s seventeen and a half stars!!

Is This Narnia?

I had a lot of fun with this assignment.  We had to make a short 5 second video that told a story.  I decided to make a little gag joke out of my 5 second video.

It took a long time to figure something kind of clever out.  I took my inspiration when I was watching The Chronicles of Narnia and they entered Narnia through the closet.  I thought it would be funny to do the same thing including the meeting of Mr Tumnas.  Which was most of the joke.

My shooting was just a video of me in the beginning asking if you heard that.  It sets up the rest of the video and since I don’t have much time with 5 seconds I had to jam in as much as I could quickly.  Then I immediately jumped into a shot of moving into the closet, seeming like it’s from my eyes.  Then, I took my moving closet outside and put the same two shirts on the rack to match the shot as much as I could.  And then I peeped out of the walkable closet to see one of my roommates standing there.  Here’s a picture of the shooting.

Making of the film

I put everything together in iMovie, which again was very simple.  The only editing I needed to do was cut off the unnecessary fat from the clips and adding the opening cut and credits at the end.  Here’s my workspace:

And here’s my final movie:

One thing I wish I could have changed was matching the screenshot of walking into the closet more.  I think putting an arm in or something could have done that, but I separated my shoulder last night so I don’t have use of my left arm right now.

The Notebook summary

A woman favorite movie, in a short 5 seconds.

5-15 second film

Video Assignment Count: 15

AAAGH so close. However the 5 second film assignment was just the kind of viedo assignment I could get behind. Enjoy:

Okay so I know this and the Big Lebowski are always my go to movies to riff on but its because I love them so. Like a partent who’s not afraid to make fun of their kids to strangers. So why this movie? Because it lends itself to good to condensing. Its got long periods of silence mixed in with intense violence and action, something I tried to encapsulate in my video.

So to make this thing I first watched a couple of the 5 second film re-mixes that are on youtube (there are TONS!). As for other ds106ers most of them were genuinely crative and made their own original 5 second films–exhibit A and B. Clearly these people are not sweaty unshowered loners making fun of the the same four movies every weekend, but the  people on youtube were just like me!

To make this jams I raided Youtbue and pulled a bunch of clips from the movie itself–opening titles, death scene, and any of the thousand scens of the leading actors staring at each other. Then I nabbed the song “Real Hero” by College and Electric Youth as well as a the classic “crickets” sound effect which was surprisingly hard to find on the internet. What followed was just extracting what smaller portions of the original clips that I needed and slamming it all together, something made easy by Final Cut Pro. The title slides were created using the Text Frames that come with Final Cut.

In retrospect the actual editing process was quite easy. The only trouble I really had was just find the appropriate materials from all over dem interwebs. Also the fear. While researching the 5 second remakes of movies on Youtube, I dared to read some of the comments. Those kids are vicious!!!
