Viking Dubstep Cat

For the first of my mash up assignments, I decided to do the Techno Viking Music Video assignment. We were asked to take one video with music in it, and place a clip of a dancing guy inside it. It seems easy, but the real trick was to make sure the music and the dancing synchronized perfectly.

To make the video, I downloaded the original video that we had to use, called Techno Viking. Then I went hunting to a techno/ dubstep type song that would work well. The guy dancing is hysterical, so I wanted an equally funny video to balance it out.

What’s as funny as a dancing viking? A dancing cat. Enter Dubstep Cat. (I highly suggest you watch the whole video as it is immensely amusing.)

I really love the cat video, because I absolutely hate dubstep and techno music. It takes a lot to make it palatable to me, because for the most part I think it’s just noise. The cat video, however, is adorable and hysterical and makes it so much more manageable.

To make this mash up, I downloaded the two videos, and used the cat as the main video and audio source. I flagged the point in the video where the “bass drops” and then overlaid the dancing viking video. I muted the audio in those clips, and then cut it off as soon as the dancing got out of synchronization. Luckily, iMovie makes the entire process fairly pain free!

While there’s no amazing story or anything particularly special about this video, it is definitely one of my works this semester. I think it’s because I have a serious soft spot for dancing cats and vikings!

The New Creation of Mine

Vine It Then Combine It!

3B034C497D1115825158041821184_247c144b593_5_1

I created a new assignment this week and was definitely more on the excited side to complete it. My assignment was a Mashup Assignment in favor of our main topics of these past two weeks assignments (remixes and mash ups). The goal of the assignment was to create 2 or more Vine videos using the Vine App, on your phone, tablet (or whatever you choose) and after those videos are made, combine them using any editing software to create one complete video of them all. I thought this would be kind of interesting considering Vine videos can only be 6 seconds or less and have videos of no longer than 6 seconds all combined into one video would be very interesting to say the least.

For starters, I used the Vine app on my phone to make the videos, and I chose to take multiple videos of what all went on during my day today! It was a very hectic day considering I walked outside this morning and it was raining, then continued my morning to go and tan. After tanning and going to my house the rain turned into snow, so as the first snowfall of the season, I couldn’t pass up the chance to get it on camera! That concluded my first video, as I created my second video it was of me arriving at work, then taking a break and going back into work (where it was nothing shy of a hectic day at the pharmacy). Finally my last video was of me finally getting home around 8 tonight, and going straight into doing my ds106 homework before I go out of town tomorrow night!

After my three videos were created, I sent them to my email and saved them onto my computer. I opened them up using the Freemake Video Converter application and started combining the videos into one solid video. I first clicked on add videos, and clicked on the 3 Vine videos I previously recorded and opened them up into the application. I then made sure the “join files” option was on, which makes them all into one video and not just three separate videos as they were before. Another option I made sure was on was the “fade transition” because I wanted the three videos to flow nicely within the one solid video instead of just video, after video, after video. Then I clicked the edit buttons just to make sure everything was set up and placed where I wanted it to be and clicked ok. Finally to save it, I clicked on the “convert” tab on the top toolbar and chose convert to Mp4 which allows the video to be opened in any software, website, etc.

MyAssignment

I wasn’t originally going to create a Mashup Assignment, I was going to stay safe and create a photo assignment, but I wanted to come out of my comfort zone. This class has taught me a lot of that actually, I have done many more things than I am actually comfortable with and I am glad I was given the opportunity to do so. Anywho, one of the assignments I had done prior had inspired me to use Vine as part of this new assignment, and then I added the extra part of adding them all together as one video to give it the “Mashup” title.

Inappropriate Laughter: Miracle Speech

For my final mash-up assignment this week I did “Inappropriate Laughter” (3 stars). At first I didn’t know what movie to do because most of my favorite movies are comedies so they are funny anyway. Then I was going to do a serious scene from Remember the Titans. But then the Miracle speech popped up on the suggested videos on the side of YouTube and I knew I had to do it. I have heard the speech several times, mostly the child version because it is adorable. Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Anyway, I figured there were a few places in there where laughter could be added because of how much the coach in the movie pauses. Here is the original version of the video that I used, found here:

And then my video can be found at this link: Miracle w laughing

How I did it:

First, I used Free YouTube Downloader to download the YouTube video onto my computer. Then I went onto freesound.org and found two different laughing tracks from here and here. I then opened Windows Live Movie Maker and clicked Add Videos and Photos and imported the video into movie maker. I set the start point and end point to the parts I wanted them at. Then I found the first spot I wanted laughter to be and hit Add Music>Add at the Current Point and faded it in fast and out slow and turned the volume down some. I did that at all of the other points where I wanted laughter. Some of the pauses were longer so I used the longer clip. Some of them were shorter so I used the shorter clip. I faded them all in and out and turned them down so they sounded natural. Then I exported it “For Computer.” I think it turned out pretty well.

The Grand Moonrise Hotel

My first mashup assignment of the week was an interesting one. I decided to be bold and go for the “Movie Mashup” assignment worth a well deserved 4 stars. Just by reading the description, i knew this assignment would not only be difficult but time consuming. I was looking at other people who completed this assignment and all the simple movie comparisons were used up. I really wanted to do the Hunger Games and Divergent. Oh, well! I suppose i’ll use this time to introduce a movie you’ve probably never seen! Well, movieS. I spent a decent amount of time thinking of movies to compare and i ended up choosing movies by Wes Anderson. I know that films directed by the same person tend to be similar but i was in a debate with my friend on HOW similar Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel. I recently watched the GBH and it was just so great. I’m not sure if it was because i’m attracted to pastel colors or what, but it was fantastic.

Similarities:

What makes both films similar is the basic storyline. In both movies, the protagonist, or protagonists set off for a journey. In GBH, the Lobby Boy sets out to bust Gustave out of jail. In MK, the scout and his lady friend leave and go on a mini vacation. Of course the scenes in between are totally different but still! I’m just summarizing this up because i’m nowhere near being a movie critic. It doesn’t help that Wes Anderson has a distinct directing style. Thinking about both of these films made me realize that they were perfect for mashing up, so i did!

Mashing

My biggest issue was how was i going to mash this up into a post? Which setting do i use? Which characters do i include? I originally chose the lobby of the Grand Budapest Hotel because that seemed like a good choice. I could fit a reasonable amount of characters/props and it would be O K. Well, i realized that the colors clashed too much. It would have been weird if i added the scout to the lobby because his clothes were too pale and the lobby is so dark. I shifted towards the beach scene in MK because that looked even better. Now that i had the setting, i needed to include characters and props from GBH. I spent way too long trying to find Gustave, Lobby Boy, and Edward Norton. The problem was that i needed to find full body photos of each character. That was really difficult. I REALLY wanted to include Agatha in the poster but a full body picture of her was nowhere to be found. I ended finding three characters from the GBH that i could include in the poster. I wanted to include a prop but i was stuck on which to include. The delivery truck for Mendl’s was too large and not appropriate for a beach scene so i chose the Mendl pastry box instead. Now that i had the photos i needed, i had to strain my hand in cutting and cropping each out. After i did that, i added them to the beach scene.

New Title

The title was not as bad as i thought it would be. It was impossible to find a font similar to the GBH movie poster so i stuck with a simple one already downloaded in GIMP. I chose purple as the color because it went well with the colors in the poster. A light pink wouldn’t have shown up and yellow wouldn’t have either. I obviously had to combine both movie titles in the poster so i ended up choosing “The Grand Moonrise Hotel”. I thought that was cute! Overall, i’m really pleased with this poster. I think i might make it my new background because it’s perfect. Below, i’m going to include original photos and the final piece! Enjoy!

Evolution of Robin Williams

For this mashup assignment (4.5 stars) I chose 11 movies that starred Robin Williams to show the evolution of his career.

I found the movie clips on YouTube and used Clip Converter to download them.

I uploaded the clips in Window Live Movie Maker and trimmed them down. I added a title slide, fades for the changing scene and captions to show the title of the movie and the year.

The whole process is very simple just time consuming.

I uploaded the final movie to Vimeo, and here’s what I have!

Top Coded Secret, Test Notes!

For the last 2 of the 8 stars required for my mashup assignments I chose the “Contest Nobody Could Win”. I downloaded my favorite scenes from six movies on YouTube and trimmed a little over 2 seconds from each through Movie Maker. The final cut is below, take a shot at guessing:

The Divergent Games

This is my last mashup assignment for the movie mashup prompt. I mixed together Divergent and the Hunger Games because a lot of people say Divergent is just the new Hunger Games. I spent a lot of time on Photoshop to make this poster, so enjoy!

10 Second Song Mashup – 3 Stars

For my final mashup assignment, I chose to create a mashup of 5 songs which all lasted between 2-3 seconds. I chose this assignment because music is a huge part of my life. I am one of those people that music motivates, not only to get things done at that point in time, but also throughout life and my goals and dreams. I can relate to the music I listen to, which is one reason I love country music so much.

To start this assignment, I thought about what songs I wanted to use, and I came up with the list of songs I wanted to use. For some reason I wanted to change out the male and female artists every other song, not too sure if there was rhyme or reason for it, but I definitely just felt it would sound better, or more different and hopefully people can figure the songs out easier!

I used two different applications for my creation, YouTube and Audacity. I opened up Audacity which is the software I used to record each 2-3 second clip of the different songs and I used YouTube to stream them while recording. I opened up each YouTube video in a separate window so I each song ready to go when I needed to add it to my mashup of songs. To start the recording I would hit the red record button on the toolbar at the top, and to stop recording after the certain time (2-3 seconds) I hit the square stop button.

RecordS1 RecordS2

After doing so for the first song, I repeated those steps for the following four songs. The recordings just added to the end of the previous recording, so there was not any editing needed after the clips were recorded. To save it to my computer, I had to export it which converted the file to a Mp4 which is capable with any program/software.

Now, its your chance to guess which songs I used to create this Mashup Sound! :)

The Divergent Games

I did the Movie Trailer Mashup Assignment worth 4.5 stars.

I dowloaded both the Divergent and Hunger Games trailers from Youtube and imported them into iMovie.

Next, I broke up the trailers into the scenes they featured from the movies, and tried to find similar scenes between the two trailers. I put the similar scenes together and carefully ordered them to make sure a plot line somewhat flowed through the new mashup trailer. I also wanted some of the talking to I made sure to increase the volume on the talking scenes and mute the scenes that did not need their original sounds. I found a royalty free song on Incompetech to add to almost the entire trailer. In the very beginning I simply copied part of the background music from the Divergent trailer and added it to the hunger games scene before bringing in my royalty free track. I kept the black transitions from the original trailers and added in transitions between the title scenes and trailers and the date scene and the trailer. I added in the release date scene for my mashuped movie and created a mashuped logo for my movie trailer.
I picked these two movies because they both take place in a dystopian futuresque world, and both have lead female characters. This is The Divergent Games.
