Holiday mashup!

For this assignment (4 stars) we had to use Photoshop or Pixlr to create a photo mashup of our 3 favorite holidays. For this I chose Christmas, Halloween, and The 4th of July. I chose to use Photoshop because I had already had the trial downloaded onto my computer. I had never used Photoshop to this extent before and it took a little bit to become aware of how to use the layers. There are some awesome tutorials online on how to use Photoshop layers that you can find here. I made sure all of my photos were transparent by using the Lunapic transparent tool found here. Then used the layers to add photos as needed in a separate layer until I was satisfied with my ending photo.

The second part of the assignment was to tell the story behind the masterpiece I created and why I created it. I love Halloween because it gives children, and even adults to be something that they life. I feel like it’s a time for everyone to be something they aspire to be, or just be plain silly. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone and not be yourself for one night. Then there Christmas. This is probably my favorite time of year. Not because of the gifts, but because of the family spirit and quality time that I get to spend with everyone. I feel like it puts everyone in a better mood and everyone is festive. Last but not least, The 4th of July. I love this day because my family usually gets together to cook out and spend more time together to celebrate America and commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by the Continental Congress.

So below you will get to see my snowman decorated with all of my favorite holidays! I wanted to make sure I did enough work to constitute the star rating I got, so I made sure to add in enough and balance it out. More work for more stars. (:

I hope you enjoy my masterpiece!

The “ABC” Savage Mashup

In this assignment, Vocal Instrumental Mashup, we were meant to take the music from one song a pair it with another song’s vocals. I had a lot of fun with this one, but I think that one of the hardest parts was trying to find songs that have about the same tempo so they can go together. For my mashup I used The Jackson 5’s “ABC” and Jay Park’s “Mommae”. I also used iMovie because I wanted to have the video showing to have Michael Jackson (and brothers) dancing with the music. I had a fun time making this assignment, and wouldn’t mind doing it again in the future sometime.

Mashup of me

For my first mashup assignment, I mashed up my own audio assignments for 4.5 stars. To do so, I imported three of my past audio assignments into Audacity, and cut and pasted pieces of the three to tell a (nonsensical) story in one piece.

Although it doesn’t make much sense, it sounds like someone telling a story on the phone.

Week 11 pt. 2: Consumer Mashup

McDonald’s, if you’re reading this, I just really like burritos. And I definitely want a mention if you use it.
This assignment was to take the logo of a place where you often spend money and to redesign it based on what you buy.

Link to Assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/consumer-mashup/

Stars: 3.5

Process: For this, I began with a copy of the McDonald’s logo and an image of breakfast burritos. I threw the logo into Photoshop and cut the ‘M’ into a new layer (to use as a guideline). I selected one of the burritos from the original image and ran an inverse selection to isolate it, then put it into the logo at the base of the M. The rest was basically copying the burrito into new layers and placing them over the M. Towards the end I decided to select and make a new layer of the red lettering to be able to overlap the burritos and closer emulate the style of the original logo. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the final result.

Im ready for my close up -4stars- #MashupAssignments1945

I made this graphic on Microsoft power point. I always enjoy utilizing Microsoft Powerpoint because the program has has a really cool feature with pictures AND videos assessable to anyone who has the program. Under “Format Picture” there is an option to “remove background”. This gives you the option to cut from any photo. I like using powerpoint because I don’t have to worry about things like margins or overlay.

El trineo de Santa está siendo dirigido por el conejito de pascua, que tiene un tronco lleno de cena de pavo. ¡Espero que disfrutes de mi creatividad!

Talking animals-4stars- #MashupAssignments1862

Now this is my type of assignment!!! LOL.. I literally narrate my dogs whole life all day long.. The doggo featured in this video in my one year old Irish doodle, Murphy! You may remeber him from past assignments i’ve included him in. I created this movie on MovieMaker. Im sure I am not the only one who cowers in fear whenever you have to make an edit of a video..Prior to this class i had never even know i had access to this program. It comes free on all apple laptops and is super simple and easy to use!

If he could talk… this is what he would say.. enjoy!?

Music Mixup Mash: Waltzing “on My Own”

(…Why did this embed so big??)

For the 4 1/2 star “Classical-Modern Mashup” assignment, I mixed the music video to Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” with Chopin’s Waltz No. 12. This one was pretty hard; the rating is maybe a bit high, but far more accurate than other ratings I’ve seen.

At first, I really wanted to do the music video to OMI’s “Cheerleader”. In pursuit of this goal, I googled the BPM (beats per minute) of “Cheerleader”, which was 118. Then, I googled “classical music with bpm 118”. This, I reasoned, would be my best chance of getting music that went well with the video. I was wrong. Nothing worked. I tried five different songs, and none of them fit the video. In defeated disgust, I looked on the list I found (https://www.cs.ubc.ca/~davet/music/bpm/118.html) and came up with the music vid above, which turned out to be a pretty good match for Waltz No. 12, the last song I’d tried to mix with the “Cheerleader” video.

I downloaded the video with 4K Video Downloader and the music via listentoyoutube.com. Then, I simply stuck them together in MovieMaker (muting the video, of course). What I hadn’t counted on was the fact that Waltz is a good minute shorter than the video. Oops. However, there was a really good place to cut it (the scene goes black) pretty much perfectly at the end of the song, which I took as a sign from God to just cut the video.

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with what came out. Finding the right components was a bit of a pain, but I think it ended up matching pretty well. I mean, it doesn’t match the unmitigated genius of Beyonce Dances to Shostokovich, but what can?

Classical-Modern Mashup

This assign was a lot of fun. I had to take a pop song and put a classical song over it to make it look like the pop artist was dancing to the classical music. Here is the video that I produced

Classical-Modern Mashup

For the first assignment this week I did a a mashup between the 24k music video and the classical song Hoe-down. The assignment is worth 4.5 stars and can be found here:

Classical-Modern Mashup

To make this mashup, I went to Youtube and found a popular dance music video from right now. Once I found the video I downloaded just the video on Keepvid.com. I then found the perfect piece of classical music and layered them together on iMovie. After adding a title that was about it! Beware that if you do not watch the real music video first this will be weird!

Sports Mashup (4.5 stars)

I did the sports mashup assignment for one of my video assignments. The topic of my montage is the NBA playoffs. I chose this because one of the things that the assignment wanted us to emphasize was the arc of ambition. I thought that the NBA playoffs were a very good example of this, since it is the time in the playoffs when players put everything they worked for to the test. It’s not really about just basketball as much as its about training hard to be good at something and using the skills you learned to succeed. In the NBA just about every player is very talented, but in order to win your team has to set themselves apart from everybody else. This is a combination of teamwork and individual talent. Also, we had to show “a message about the moments”. The playoffs in any sport are defined by the moments because generally the games are very close and the special moments and great play define the outcome. I made this videos using windows movie maker. I found the game footage on YouTube and bought the song on amazon prime.

Music Mashup

Pick any two songs and combine them to make one song. Point out the differences between the two songs. Examples: gender singers, high vs. low voice, changes in volume, instrumentation etc.
