childbook Mashup Retake #2 April 3, 2013

This is my 2nd re-take for the childbook Mashup assignment. Since I couldn’t upload this as a Jpeg, I had to save it as a png file instead. I tried tooth and nail to upload, edit/ log in and logging out to try and correct this Jpeg uploading problem to no avail. So here’s my second best attempt.

Music Mashup

I create an audio mashup with 2 very distinct soundtracks from “Game of Death”.

My Attempt at doing a Music Mash Up

For the Ds106 audio assignment I was asked to make a music mashup which means to take two distinct songs and mix them together. I attempted to do this mash up using the Space Jam Theme song and Funk Master Flex’s C’mon Baby, which were both my favorite songs during the time I was growing up here is what it sounds like:

I used audacity the free audio editing tool. This tool is pretty simple to use, but if I watched a few more tutorials I think I could have made this mash up a little smoother.

Music Mashup

Using Audacity (or any other sound editing program) create an audio mashup with 2 very distinct songs. According to wikepedia these mashaps may fall under “fairuse”.

Audio Mashup**

So for this assignment, I had to mashup 3 different songs to create a story.  It was only worth 2 stars and I really think it should have been worth more because it was tough.  Here’s what I did.

I had all the songs off my iTunes and loaded them into audacity.  I used Coalminer by O.A.R, Good Life by One Republic ft. B.O.B, So Good by B.O.B, I Need Your Love by Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding, and American Baby by Dave Matthews Band.

To create the story I just flipped through iTunes randomly honestly.  Didn’t put much thought into it but I tried to get random types of music into it.  The only one I really got any thought about was the transition from Ellie Goulding and Dave Matthews.  I knew I wanted to put a Dave Matthews song into it and I ended up flipping through ones that were about girls and stuff so it would go along with the “hold me in your arms again” from the Ellie song.  It just worked out that Dave had a song with similar lyrics.

As for actually constructing the song, I used audacity.  I either faded the song in or normalized the transition, overlapping all the stuff for the songs.  The only part that was not transitioned was between Good Life and So Good because the beat just worked out that way so it naturally jumped between the two.

Sardonic Mashups

The concept is to mashup something along the lines of a public apology, a commercial, a pandering politcial speech or anything you’d like to mock for the public good.

Here are the steps-

1. Pull the audio as an mp3 from YouTube using Zamzar or something similar.

2. Import it into audacity or any audio mixer you have

3. Import the music you want to layer behind the audio

4. Edit to taste

5. Upload to soundcloud

6. Share the link

Mash It and Make It

Take two 3D models of and mash them up in a CAD program (TinkerCad is great) to create a new object. Once you’ve mashed it up, print it and photograph your creation. You can use two existing models from Thingiverse.com or another such site or make one yourself using a CAD programand combine it with an existing model.

  • Find a model on Thingiverse
  • Find another model or make your own
  • Mash them up into a whole new model
  • Print it
  • Photograph it
  • And then narrate it’s life story.

Animate 2600 Mashup

Jim created the excellent Animate 2600 GIF assignment. Now it’s time to riff on it and remix & mashup classic 8-bit video games from the Atari 2600 era. Mashup two or more different games into the same animated GIF.

Victim or Offender? Teaser trailer mashup

Came up with a teaser for the video created by me titled Victim or Offender? First time cutting a teaser! Hope it makes the mark!
