Parental Advisory – Foolish Negro (Mashup assignment)

Wiz-Khalifa-ONIFC

I had fun with this one. For those that don’t know, the artist above is Wiz Khalifa. This is the cover of his latest album. As you can see he clear looks like a damn fool, so I decided to replace the parental advisory for explicit lyrics to an advisory for foolish negros, which I think is a much bigger problem in society than foul language. This post came from the DS106 mashup assignment; http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/remix-an-album-cover/

The editing comes via my new favorite picture editor, Pixlr. They have a mobile phone app it you need to do you’re editing on the go. The “negro community” pic is something I came across years ago and always remember because of how funny it is.

Sports Mashup

Submit a video mashup of what you think are some of the greatest sports plays ever. What is the story it tells? This needs to be more than just a montage of clips, find a way to make it present a theme, an arc of ambition, a message about the moments.

Opposites Attract Mashup Assignment!! 4 Stars and Many More Hours

This assignment is a difficult yet fun one, and can be found right here! The assignment forces you to dig up two different songs that have similar beat structures but are in very different genres, and herein lies the greatest difficulty. Of course audio editing can be tedious and cumbersome, but once the final result is out and hours upon hours are behind you, the feeling of accomplishment is great.
After struggling for a long time with what songs to use in my mashup, I went over to Witt LeFew’s version of the project and was impressed. He did a great job of making the two songs mesh very well, which is not easy to do. He also included a great point in the write up, which is that the songs should have similar beat structures, which is something I hadn’t thought of while in the pre-production process.

For my version of this assignment, I used the songs Lady Madonna by the Beatles, and What I Got by Sublime, two altogether great songs, and also a couple of my favorites.

Lady Madonna

What I Got

Now, here is my remixed version of these two songs, which I worked very hard on.

In this mix I also used a record scratching records sound clip from FreeSound, which was pretty useful.

Now, these two songs aren’t that highly alike in terms of tempo and such, they do have much in common, if you just stop to listen to both for a few seconds each. Both are great songs in their own respect, and as such, I wanted to see how they would fare in a mashup together. At some points it was quite difficult to get the transitions to be smooth, and I hope this doesn’t take away too much from the end result. That being said, it is a pretty tough task to take on, and I worked hard and tried to do the best I could with transitions, and with the points in both songs that I felt would be useful to put together. Anyways I hope you enjoy my final result and feel free to provide criticism and such because I need it! Thanks!

Salena Gomez transformed, Mashup assignment

Video Mashup assignment was fun to create. I chose to show Disney Channel star Salena Gomez transform from a cute little girl into a beautiful young adult. I took a clip of her from Barney, Disney channel show Wizards of Waverly place, and lastly a commercial. I first collected several videos from youtube, used keepvid.com to download the videos. I then used Adobe Premier Video editing software to cut out clips. After I had the desired clips, I exported the file and uploaded it on youtube.

Caribbean Vacation, yellow rice, beach and Mashup Assignment!

Recycle the Media:
My task for this assignment was to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, image and video) but making sense as the content. I used more the seven pictures and three audio clips. My story represents the best of theCaribbean Vacation. lol

Movie Trailer Mashup

For the movie trailer mashup I was supposed to take a movie trailer and change the audio to put a new spin on it. I overlayed Al Green’s Lets Stay Together over the movie trailer for Obsessed using Windows Movie Maker. I wanted to give the movie more of a love story vibe instead of creepy stalker vibe that was its original intent.

Recycle Remash

From the 3-star Recycle the Media assignment: During the Fall 2012 iteration of ds106 taught at UMW, we collected media from students that was unused in their previous work uploaded to http://dropitto.me/ds106phonar (the password was “photos4life” newly added media might take some time to be moved- we have to feed the squirrels that do this manual labor). The content was migrated to a public download site, which contains at least 150 images, audio and video http://minus.com/mvKXzhhcO.

Your task for this assignment is to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, image and video). The story most likely would be done as a video, but see if you can make these different kinds of media make sense as the content. What kind of recycled story can you make out of this cast off media?

For my first part of media I wanted to tell a story with a picture.  Cropping pictures into other pictures to see if that changes the idea of an image.  I just grabbed any images that struck my fancy, and most of them were abstract or nostalgic.  The kind of story I made was about a garbage monster who is seeing this rare event where milk falls from the sky into a hole in the ground.  Rumor has it that this milk flows into a reservoir at the University of Mary Washington where they process the milk and use it for as long as it lasts saving the school much money. The second creation I wanted to do was an audio creation (because I love audio) and was going to challenge myself with another five-sound story.  I like the idea of layering sounds, but a lot of the sounds were shorter in length than I anticipated so that brought about a whole new set of challenges that I was happy to try out. (street sounds, sneeze, scrap yeah yeah, ahh, and swish)  This is a mini story of a sped up journey for someone who is moving and they took the train, drove a little by car near the coast, and settled into the city.  The sneezes at the beginning and end mark the start and end of the journey and that even though location changes it doesn’t mean that the person themselves change.  The more and more I listened to it the more and more it seemed haphazard and yet it still made sense.  I think that in order to change this it needed to either be reordered or have things fade into each other a little more effectively.  The sounds currently sound like layers of sounds instead of a story.

The Music Mash (he did the music mash)

Radio Channel Flipping.  I think everyone’s done it before, especially when you’re bored in traffic on the road or something.  I bet it was just as popular back in the 50s, when Radio was King, as Channel Surfing is today.

I made a little piece that simulates the radio searching experience, using the unused pieces of other people’s projects.  I’m so environmentally friendly.  All five of the required reused pieces are in there–plus a little bit of my own spin.  Well, enjoy.

Mashup Movie Trailer

During this weeks Remix segment, we were asked to complete 7 stars worth of Mashup Assignments. The first assignment that I decided to do for this segment was to create a Movie Trailer Mashup. This assignment asked to take a movie trailer and have the audio be completely opposite of what the movie actually represents. For this assignment I decided to take the movie trailer of one of my favorite movies “Bridesmaids” and make the audio of the trailer sound as if it’s a scary, when in reality it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve seen. The audio trailer that I used was of the movie “The Apparition“. The reason I used this movie was because I thought that the audio course of events sounded like it would go really well with that of the Bridesmaid trailer. I downloaded both movie trailers onto my computer using www.keepvid.com then I uploaded Bridesmaid’s into my iMovie, but took the Apparition trailer and uploaded it into audacity in order to get the audio. I then combined both the trailer (muted) and the audio in order to produce a scary version of the Bridesmaid trailer and make my own Remix. This assignment was very interesting to do simply because I have already seen the bridesmaid and I know that it’s not a scary movie….. when I added the scary sound to the trailer it made it a lot more interesting. I felt like I was getting ready to watch an entirely different movie. I was also surprised to see how well this specific audio fit into the movie trailer, I didn’t expect them to go so well hand in hand. This Mashup Assignment was worth 4 stars. I can officially say  that I’ve made my own remix!!! It’s awesome to see how easy it can be to combine different forms of media in order to produce a new product that no one else has ever done.

Consumer Mashup

For the assignment Consumer Mashup I actually had a hard time thinking of something I buy a lot at one specific place. In fact, I couldn’t think of any examples for me. However, one of my friends used to always buy candy at this random CITGO. She would rarely buy candy from any other place. I decided to use her as an inspiration and and do CANDYGO.

This assignment was fairly simple. I found a CITGO logo and uploaded it onto a powerpoint presentation (not sure why I used this, just seemed like a simple way to manipulate the picture). I then added a text box and tried to find the text that matched the original logo the best. I came up with aharoni. I then fixed the color and put a white box over the original logo and added my new text.
