Song Style Mashup

There are a lot of people doing song mashups nowadays, so I just thought I’d completely butcher a Rihanna song…just for kicks. I decided to use the song “Rude Boy”. I found the acapella online and simply dragged it into Ableton Live 8. I recorded and double tracked the guitars to widen the sound and added a bass and drum track to fill the mix. The sound turned out ok; but I really just wanted to do something unexpected. Enjoy!

ds106 Assignment – Celeb Mashup!

I meant to put this one up last night as well but I forgot.

I also did the ds106 assignment called Celeb Mashup! the point of this assignment is to take a picture of yourself and a picture of a celebrity and put yourself in with them some how.

I decided to use an image taken from Lady Gaga’s music video Paparazzi . Since the picture of myself I used was already in Monochrome I had to put everything in paint tool SAI in order to mess around with the colors, brightness and contrast.  I noticed the other person who previously did the assignment decided to add a quote, so I added a quote by Lady Gaga as well.

After putting everything together, I ended up with this~

In the end I thought it was quite a fun assignment to try out~

Mashedup Children’s Book

The Assignment
Today, I decided to do an assignment from the Mashup Assignments called Mashedup Children’s Book by Jim Groom!!
The directions read:

Mashup a children’s book based on another cultural artifact. For example, framing Dr. Who as a children’s book in the aesthetic of a Dr. Suess’s work.

The Process
I decided to make this assignment somehow related to our section topic right now, Fear and Loathing Online.
I tried looking picture from Flickr’s Creative Commons but couldn’t really find anything so I just used Google.
I looked for a picture of a locked computer and a computer virus which I could combine. Then I looked for a picture of Curious George.
After I was done searching for the pictures, I used Gimp to put the three pictures into one. I think I’m getting better in using Gimp!!

The Story
The picture didn’t really turn out the way I wanted but I like it. :)
It’s a picture of Curious George using his protected computer from computer viruses.
In this section, I learnt the importance of protecting my computer from different malware so I thought this picture would be a good picture for my third ds106 assignment of this section.

ds106 Assignment – Music Mash

So today I decided to try out the ds106 assignment Music Mash  In this assignment I had to take clips from different songs and mash them up.

at first I was not sure what I would do… but in the end I decided to just mix up random tracks I have using Audacity . a free audio editing program.

I put in clips from 7 different songs I had in my itunes

Hora de verdad by Vandalusia?

???????????????????????? by ????????

Der Wald by ??????

Samba de Aspel by Anemo-Aspel

Princess Roki by Akino

??? ?Hysteric Rondo? by miu?myu

Betty-boo by Senax

Using Audacity I clipped parts of each track, and messed around with pitch, tempo, speed and such (all the fun things you can do on Audacity)

In the end I ended up with a weird….thing…

You can listen to it here on Soundcloud

DS106: Consumer Mashup

This is my third DS106 assignment for this section. It is under the mashup assignments and is named Consumer Mashup. The directions read as;

Think of anyplace you spend money, and what you most often buy at that place. Then redesign their logo to incorporate your favorite product. Do as many as you want.

I had a few ideas of places that I constantly spend money at here in Japan. But I couldn’t think of a single product that I consistently buy. Then it hit me, I have to pay for my train ride to and from school everyday! That will be perfect. My commuter pass is from ????? (Tokyu Kamata Station) to ?????? (Shinjuku-Gyoemmae Station). So I spend about 390? ($4.89) to commute to and from school.

Similar to my last DS106 assignment. I opened some programs… and queued the music!  I took the ????? (Tokyo Metro) since I take both Tokyo Metro and Tokyu Corperation to get to school but, Tokyo Metro is more well known. I then took a picture of the item I use to ride the trains, which is the Pasmo card, and got to brainstorming. After not having any ideas come to my head for about 10 minutes. I finally decided to put the Pasmo Card within the Tokyo Metros “M” logo. This is the end result.

Mashup: Children’s Book and The Pioneer

The Mad Tea Party.

Mashup Assignments: Mashedup Children’s Book

Mashup a children’s book based on another cultural artifact. For example, framing Dr. Who as a children’s book in the aesthetic of a Dr. Suess’s work. See example from College Humor here: http://www.collegehumor.com/article:181140

Since Scott asked us to have more variety of categories for our DS106, I wanted to do something in another category I still haven’t tried. A past blog post from the previous semester inspired to me to try this assignment. I think this assignment can also be under the design section.

How are people doing with their presentation preparation? Mid-term has started and we’re all having a hectic week. I’m suppose to be busy too, and I somehow spent a hour or two the other day just to search the right picture for this assignment. It’s my bad habit to go headlong at whatever I decided to do.  First off, I couldn’t find the desirable CC-licensed image of children’s books. I could immediately think of some well-known books and I had plenty of ideas. “The Snowman” was one I wanted to use, but that plan had to be put away. Instead, I found an gif animation of the famous tea party scene from Lewis Caroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” which I replaced The Mad Hatter’s face with Engelbart’s.

Can you believe it? I’m still writing about a Pioneer after finishing the first section. A light bulb went off in my head when I saw the dormouse. I made a little association with the Pioneer and the mouse (dormouse – mouse – computer mouse…Engelbart?).

The creative process of this assignment became somewhat difficult, because I had taken a gif animation and played around with it. Although you can’t really tell Alice is actually holding a x-ray-ed computer mouse, which the sparkle erased from the image. Check out the twinkly animation version of the Tea Party on Flickr. I wish I had the animation working on here too…I don’t consider this piece as one of my best works.

* I just realized now that I was goofing around checking out some dormouse pictures and videos (they’re too adorable to avoid). No wonder I took more time than I expected to complete this assignment.

DS106 Mashup Assignments “Music Mash”

“The Adventures of Raindance Maggie”, by Red Hot Chili Pepper, was released in 2011. The popularity of RHCP has been pretty high, since RHCP has tended toward more main stream recently.
In this single, RHCP doesn’t lose its style, and the song is not too extreme as well. It had been played a lot on the radio since it was released.
After hearing this new single, I felt a little familiar with the bass line. It sounded like the guitar in the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”. The sound was released about 4 years ago.
So, I started to mash up the songs, I put the bass of “The Adventures of Raindance Maggie” on “Seven Nation Army”. I didn’t have to change the pitch and it doesn’t sound bad. Since the White Stripes doesn’t emphasize its bass and RHCP is famous for Flea’s bass, both sounds match to each other.

Movie Trailer Mashup

I checked the DS106 website to get some creative ideas about projects that could be done with my students and found the assignment for the Movie Trailer Mashups.  I was instantly inspired by Oscar’s Transformer mashup.  I wanted to choose … Continue reading

Movie Trailer Mashup

_cokwr: Take your favorite movie trailer and mash it up with a different trailer to completely change the meaning of the original trailer. For example, if you have a funny movie trailer, give it the sound of a terrifying movie; or vice versa. You may need to clip the audio or the visual, use imovie and audacity to cut the clips to give you what you need.
