E.T., Don’t Forget the Umbrella!

Mia enjoys a wide variety of different movies. She’s just as happy to watch a thriller as a rom-com (although she has a soft spot for spy movies!) If she had to choose her five favorite movies, “Mary Poppins” and “E.T.” would both be on the list. This is interesting, since both of those movies have characters that come from the sky.

The “This Doesn’t Belong Here” assignment was to “Mash up two different iconic movie scenes. However, you should aim to be as subtle as possible. Perhaps a famous prop that simply doesn’t belong or a character that looks a little out of place.”

In honor of Mia’s favorites, I decided to mashup a famous scene from E.T. and a famous prop from Mary Poppins. I chose the scene where Elliott and E.T. are riding the bicycle through the sky and pass in front of the moon, along with the umbrella that Mary Poppins carries. I found both pictures online and uploaded them to Canva, where I designed the image.

I tried to do it in a way that looked believable, and I think I succeeded! If you didn’t know what the original picture looked like, nothing about the image would look unusual. This assignment would have been challenging to me in the past, but with all the skills I have learned in this class, it was pretty fun!

Talky Tina Transformer

Take Tina’s head and place it on another person or animal or fictional character or something. The original idea was to swap a babies head (now I ain’t saying Tina is a baby) and a dolls head. So like you could find an image of a baby and a doll and put the dolls head on the baby and the babies head on the doll. Just search “Talky Tina” on the web and stick her head on something else.

Assignment Bank- Mashup Assignments

I found Talky Tina’s creepy head through a quick Google image search. I had a great idea for who I was going to put her head on. Who better to have a creepy doll head than the transformer, Bumblebee?

I think if Talky Tina was actually a transformer, she would definitely be one creepy Decepticon. I edited this photo together using Adobe Photoshop Mix on my phone. It was a simple cut and place edit, although I did have a difficult time trying to cut out Tina’s head. I think I might have lost one of her pigtails in the process, but we could just say that it’s over her shoulder.

This assignment was really quick and easy, but also fun. It’s funny to see the doll’s head on the body of a giant transformer. The picture is kind of disturbing, but so is the picture of Talky Tina just by herself. This was a fun mashup.

Where in the World is Jasmine Fujioka? (Assignment Bank #26)

Holiday Mashup

We all have favorite holidays, but sometimes it’s hard to pick just one! For this assignment, use a photo editing software like Pixlr or Photoshop to mashup your top THREE favorite holidays/cultural celebrations. Use whatever elements you would like from each holiday, creating a character or scene with the images/symbols you’ve chosen. Tell the story behind this character or image!

BEHIND THE SCENES

Happy Hallotine! Wait…that doesn’t seem right. Let me check my notes…oh! It seems that all of Wisteria’s favorite holidays have collided into one! Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and New Years….isn’t that a treat! You can tell she’s gotten all dressed up for Halloween (as Carmen Sandiego, no less!) while also keeping New Years cheery with her wine basket. Not to mention she keeps getting anonymous Valentine letters!

I originally was just going to sketch this assignment, but I got a little bit too into it, and ended up shading it. Oh well! At least it looks really good!

STEPS TO SUCCESS

— Open up CSP and do some preliminary sketches

— Open a text document to decide what Wisteria’s favorite holidays are.

— Open up some Carmen Sandiego reference material (she’s wearing Carmen’s outfit from the new show that just came out on Netflix!)

— Utilize multiplication layers, glow layers, and layers in general to create the picture. Choose the correct colors, do lineart, create the background as well as the little borders. Make it transparent for extra flare

— Post it into this textbox

And that’s really about it! It was really fun to decide what Wisteria’s favorite holidays would be. Valentines and Halloween were no brainers, but it became pretty clear she’d really like New Years too. It’s nice to be able to reveal these tiny facts about her. Secret agents are just like us!

A Quiet Box (Assignment Bank #25)

Movie Mashup

Take a movie that you really like.  Now think of a movie that has been compared to it, and make a new movie poster that incorporates the two!

BEHIND THE SCENES

A world in which monsters roam the earth, alien or otherwise, and you can’t see them coming or make any noise whatsoever…

For this assignment, I combined two movies that have been compared in recent years, Bird Box and A Quiet Place Both are horror, and both involve losing a sense in order to survive (or at least involve one of the six senses in some way). With this in mind, I found a way to incorporate two of the their posters together, so that they formed a cohesive poster of their own!

STEPS TO SUCCESS

— Open up my art program (Clip Studio Paint) and activate my tablet

— Look up posters of both Bird Box and A Quiet Place and choose two

— Copy both posters into the same file and begin working

— Use clipping mask to remove the scene in Sandra Bullock’s shoulder, and place a portion of the Quiet Place poster in its place.

— Remove all traces of the Bird Box title using color-matching and the blur tool

— Make the transition from BB to QP smooth my blurring the borders

— Save as a PNG and post here

And that’s really about it! This gave me some challenge, but I feel as if powering through it has only made me Stronger. It’d be fun to do again!

Logo Switch Up

For this assignment, I took Bob’s Burger’s logo and mashed it up with another brand, specifically, Sponge Bob. Recently, I saw a post on Instagram or Twitter, and it said that Bob’s Burgers could be a valid name for the show Sponge Bob. This sparked the idea for this assignment.

In order to create the image, I found a picture of the Krusty Krab, a transparent picture of SpongeBob and then found the Bob’s Burgers logo. I uploaded them all on Canva and combined them. I’m really happy with the end product. Take a look!

Super Hero

For this assignment, I took Iron Man and put him in an everyday situation… out in space! Okay, not exactly an everyday situation, but probably one that could be considered “everyday” for Iron Man.

Take a look:

Okay, I also had him flying past school… maybe he’s ditching? Hard to tell.

I created both of these images on Canva. I found the Iron Man image through a quick google search, and picked one with a transparent background. I uploaded the Iron Man image into Canva and placed it on top of the two backgrounds you see in the images.

This was such a fun mashup, I really enjoyed the simplicity of it, but also its creativity.

Favorite Movie

For this mashup assignment, I took my favorite movie, The Iron Giant, picked out my favorite scenes, and edited them together to explain the story.

In order to do this assignment, I looked up several clips from the movie on Youtube. I downloaded those clips through 4K Video Downloader, and then imported those videos into iMovie. I split the clips and arranged them to best fit the story I wanted to share. Once I was finished, I exported the final video, and uploaded the trailer to Vimeo.

I’m really happy with the final product. This is my all time favorite movie, and I talk about it every chance I get. Take a look!

The Many Faces of Johnny Depp

Create a 2-3 mins clip on an actors dvelopment chose your favrioute scenes from these films from there early film credits to now and show there development mash them up and then give a brief description on why you chose the actor and how they have developed as an actor.

Assignment Bank- Mashup Assignments

I chose Johnny Depp for this assignment because he has played so many interesting roles in movies. He has been an excellent actor in all genres that he has starred in. I wanted to make a video showing some of the different characters he has played over the years. The video shows his development over the last 28 years (1990-2018). Not all of his movies are included, just the ones I have either seen or heard of.

Over the years, Johnny Depp has played a large variety of characters. From a Cry-Baby to Captain Jack Sparrow to the Mad Hatter to Grindelwald (from Fantastic Beasts), it seems like there is no role Johnny Depp can’t play.

I really love how this video turned out. You can watch Johnny Depp’s roles diversify as he acts in more and more movies. These are not even all of the movies he has starred in, but these were some of my favorites. I especially love the scene I included from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where he just says “I don’t care” to Violet.

Editing Actor Development – Johnny Depp

The hardest part about making this video was trying to find the scenes I wanted from the movies. It was also hard to shorten the clips once I got them into iMovie. I had a hard time deciding which pieces of the scene would be the best to include in the video. In the picture of iMovie above, you can see the clip from The Lone Ranger split into three different parts. I was trying to decide which clip I wanted to keep.

I hope you enjoyed watching the video as much as I enjoyed creating it. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors, and it was cool to make a video to show his development over the years.

Did someone say karaoke?

For my final mashup assignment this week I decided to do another 5 star assignment. I believe partaking in two 5 star assignments, ultimately getting me to the overall assigned 10, makes it easier on myself. I rather challenge myself with higher star assignments because it helps build my creativity as well as allows myself to put enough effort into my blog posts.

With that being said I decided to partake in a mashup assignment called Animoji Karaoke. This 5 star assignment asked that…

Have an iPhone? Create yourself using Apple’s Animoji and sing or lip sing to your favorite song! Save the video and upload it to your blog. Make sure to include 1) Why do you think your character looks like you? 2) Why did you chose this song? This mashup includes elements from video, audio, and written work.

This seemed like such a fun assignment to partake in because I love the iPhones new feature of Animoji. I believe it’s a unique way to interact with others and also help build on individual design and creativity skills. Likewise I love karaoke and have no problem belting out any and every song.

That being said I wanted to also incorporate my character, princess/secret agent Juliet Stones in some way. With that in mind I decided to design an Animoji for her. I tried to sketch the Animoji as accurately as I could to my character. I attempted to give her strawberry blonde hair and blueish green eyes to match her description. Creating this Animoji was real simple, all I had to do was go into my phone and select the game pigeon app that is within the messages section of the phone. Once there I simply designed Juliet to my liking and ultimately just had to record myself lip singing a song as her.

The song I chose to lip sing was the perry the platypus theme song. This is in the television show Phineas and Ferb. The is used to introduce their platypus that secretly is a secret agent. I felt doing a song related to the spy genre would be fun, likewise I wanted to do my best to connect this assignment to our class theme and my character.

Ultimately I felt I did my best with this assignment and really enjoyed myself while doing it. It wasn’t too hard and certainly helped expand my creativity. I certainly recommend this assignment to anyone looking for some fun and a slight challenge.
