Pills for the Mad Hatter

For my second mashup assignment, I did the “Audio & Music Video Mashup” assignment.

The first thing I did was check out some Melanie Martinez music videos, because her videos are always visually engaging. The “Mad Hatter” video is particularly dynamic, especially because the theme of insanity can work with a lot of songs.

I was reminded of St. Vincent’s new single, “Pills”, and I decided to try those two together. I was shocked at how well they worked together. The Alice in Wonderland allusion plays on a drug theme, obviously reflected in “Pills”, and is particularly appropriate in the Doctor’s Office scene in the video.

I’m really pleased with how this turned out.

I Woke Up Like This

For my first assignment this week I decided to do a mashup of two photos. One is supposed to be a closeup superimposed on another picture to tell a story (4.5 stars).

I took a close up of Squidward and and superimposed it on a dorm room. I also added an alarm clock to to add another layer to the concept I was trying to build. Last week I did a college reflection video and since then I’ve been going on a trip down memory lane. One thing that came to mind when looking for assignments this week was how popular Spongebob jokes were my freshman year. I also often feel like Squidward in my daily life so that felt very appropriate. I decided to combine this inspiration with the popular “I woke up like this” to demonstrate how I feel when I wake up in the morning. It tells the story of a college story forced to be a productive member of society early in the morning. It was a nice nostalgic moment as I get towards the end of my second to last semester of undergrad. I decided to post it to twitter so that everyone could enjoy the Spongebob moment.

Lucy Haleception

For my first mashup assignment, I did the “One Movie Watches Another” assignment. I’ve been binge-watching “Pretty Little Liars” as of late, so the first thing that came to mind was the plethora of scenes from the show where Aria is watching Film Noir, which she loves. I found a scene where she and Ezra are watching a film that had a good amount of cuts back and forth to the TV.

As for the movie I replaced it with, I thought it would be funny to feature a movie that Lucy Hale (who plays Aria) was actually in. When I searched her filmography on IMDB, I found that she was in a cheesy ABC Family made for TV movie, which was perfect, because that’s the exact opposite of what the would normally be watching.

The end result is pretty funny. Aria and Ezra’s awkwardness just adds to the comedic effect.

My World is Baby Blue

I loved editing videos last week, so I decided to do a video mashup. The What Color is Your World?  assignment instructed me to photograph a single color throughout a typical day and layer it with a song about that color. I decided to film blue things around my room in motion as opposed to just compiling still photos. Some things I recorded included blankets, robes, a bottle of perfume, the sky, and my colored contacts.

Once I had enough footage to edit, I imported the clips into Windows Movie Maker, trimmed, rearranged, and slowed them down to match the vibe of the song I chose, which was Baby Blue by King Krule. Although I filmed blue objects in my video, once I started playing with video effects, I found a blue filter and decided to use it on several clips to enhance the color. It’s very amateur but I think I did a nice job of editing the footage to compliment the song.

America Runs on Ice

I love coffee, but I really love iced coffee.  Every morning, regardless of the temperature, I grab an iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. That’s why my mind immediately went to Dunkin’ when I stumbled upon the Consumer Mashup assignment. This assignment required me to redesign a company’s logo by incorporating my favorite product. Using Photoshop, I removed the hot coffee image from the Dunkin’ Donuts logo and replaced it with an iced coffee. Then I edited the text to read, “America runs on ice”. I think I should get this made into a bumper sticker for my car because this actually sums up who I am as a person.

Remix 1

This week, the class focused on remixes and mashups. This is my first remix. I was told to make a collage of things that help me relax while also using this as an opportunity to advertise DS106.

So,  I picked 4 pictures – one of my computer in Starbucks with DS106 website on display, one of a sunset in the mountains of Santa Barbara, CA on the Psalm 121 Overlook and helicopter pad, one of my dog, and another of Ronald Reagan’s beloved Rancho Del Cielo.

I went to the Reagan Ranch last week, had an amazing time, and felt so at peace up on the ranch, so I decided to include it. I also included something that recommends students take the course because I’ve had a great time and it was part of the remix assignment.

Assignments Week 12!

MashupAssignments, MashupAssignments2151

For this assignment I used snap chat to create superman holding up the UC! It was a pretty quick one and I enjoyed making it! This was worth 3 stars.

MashupAssignments2037

For this assigment I also used snap chat! I had to create a mashup of two actors that looked like they should be together. I recently saw daddies home 2 and that is why I chose these two actors.  This was worth 3 and a half stars!

MashupAssignments2132

For this project I had to mash up two Disney songs. I used listentoYoutube.com to convert the music from Youtube. Then I layered it in audacity. This is worth 4 stars!

MashupAssignments2010

For this assignment I did the same as before. I used audacity and layered the song Sound of Silence by Disturbed and the Wiggles song Fruit salad. This was worth 3 and a half stars!

Music Switching, Live Vs Studio

The song is All Night Thing and it is studio recorded by Temple of the dog and mashed with the live version just sang by the lead singer Chris Cornell (RIP).  I used the Audacity program to put the two songs together at the right times.  Personally, I like the live version better.

The You Doodle Walk through

For this assignment, I had trouble finding the right photo editor so I asked my friend and he told me about this app called YouDoodle. Its a real simple app where you can put pictures together and cut out what you need to keep in the photo you are trying to make.  The hardest part for me personally is trimming out the extra parts in a picture I am trying to use. In the YouDoodle app, they have a cut and trim option where you just circle around the spot you don’t want to keep and cut that out. And you don’t have to worry about cutting out the picture behind it because you can set that as the background. and it won’t be cut out. When youre done, save it to your photo gallery and then email it yourself or import it on your computer.  Once I got the idea I wanted and the right app, It took me about 10 minutes to finish it.  So if you are looking for an easy way to mash some photos together, I would recommend youdoodle.

Superhuman in Everyday Life

Everyone has a superpower that they’d love to have. Show yours in a mashup by editing at least two photos together to show how you’d yours in an everyday situation.
