Drops of T.Swift

This assignment was so fun to do, and gave my friends and I all a good laugh. I chose to do the lyrics from the song Drops of Jupiter, and then picked Blank Space by Taylor Swift for the background music. I sound pretty horrible and would catch myself wanting to sing. I created this through audacity and just did the voice recording then imported the music and turned down the volume on it a little. This was my second audio assignment to complete 8 stars for this week!

Spooks Dreams (AudioAssignments1417 4 Stars)

Man um… I don’t know where to start.  I tried to do this assignments, but when I told Spooksy he was going to read song lyrics over another song he got all angry and said he’d just record a whole song himself with his own words.  He locked himself in my office for a few hours, and I heard all sorts of weird things.  It sounded like he was using a power drill at one point?  I heard sounds that just shouldn’t exist in there… I didn’t bother him…  When he came out, he was holding an mp3 of this song.  I mean, he was actually holding an mp3, I was so scared/amazed I just uploaded it.  I mean, he basically re-made an entire song, just about himself.  I guess I should be impressed… I have so many questions, I just… I’m scared to ask him.

Dramatically Britney

I got really excited when I saw this assignment! It looked super fun, and super silly! Basically, I had to take a fun song, record myself speaking the lyrics super seriously, then put it on top of instrumental music to give it an entirely different feel. I’m actually pretty happy with how mine came out!

I decided to use one of my childhood favorite songs, Oops I Did It Again by Britney Spears. The original version of this song is super upbeat and fun, but I thought the lyrics would sound much different if read seriously! Here’s the original version of the song:

I recorded myself reading the lyrics on my Garageband. I had the mic on on the “song” section to give it an echo effect. Then I went through my iTunes library, looking for a good song to place behind it. I settled on the song “When the Love Falls” by Yiruma. I thought it added to the dramatic vibe! Then I added the song in to the Garageband file, cut the end of the song accordingly, downloaded to my iTunes and uploaded to my Soundcloud! Here’s the finished product!

Trampy Shadows

I did this Dramatic Reading Remix assignment for 3.5 stars. I found Chelsea Irizarry’s Shadow Theme Song and thought it sounded really cool. I decided to do a dramatic reading of Frank Sinatra’s The Lady is a Tramp, because I’ve established it as Delia’s favorite song. Dramatic readings are one of my favorite things- I have a special hat for them.

Yes, I was wearing it while dramatically reading lyrics.

I recorded the lyrics in audacity and then imported the theme song. I then added silence to space out the lines in order to make the whole thing flow better. I also put the sax solo where the instrumental solo is in the song itself. The theme song actually went surprisingly well with The Lady is a Tramp- I was expecting a terrible disaster! I did normalize my voice and made the song quieter, but there was very little other editing done. I’ll see how I feel about this in the morning since I’m incredibly tired, but right now I’m feeling pretty good about this remix. As always, criticism is welcome, wanted, and appreciated!

“My Lady Cave”

One of our Assignment Bank assignments this week was labeled, “Dramatic Reading Remix.” Our instructions were to, “take a song that you love, and record yourself doing a dramatic reading of the lyrics. Then take another piece of music (obviously without lyrics) and set your dramatic reading to it. This should result in something that sounds very different than the original song. Post both the original song (for comparison) and your new dramatic reading remix in a blog post.”

Here is my dramatic reading:

[Worth 3 1/2 stars]

I obviously had to change some lyrics, because although I have no issue cursing on this blog, dropping the F-bomb or saying the other word for “kitty cat” is not really part of my classy act. It was extremely hard for me not to laugh while recording this, especially because my roommate walked into the room half way through. She kept about her usual business until she heard me say “my lady cave put his ass to sleep…now he calling me Nyquil,” and she lost it. I had to edit out her cackles.

I used Audacity and SoundCloud to edit together the background music and my reading.

Dramatic Reading Remix

This assignment is titled “Dramatic Reading Remix” and is worth 3 and a half stars. Here’s the link to the assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/dramatic-reading-remix/
I completed this assignment from the viewpoint of Lena.

For this assignment I decided that it would be fun practicing dramatic readings since I am one of the least dramatic people I know. What better way to practice than doing this? I began by picking a song that would be able to be dramatized. I didn’t have a specific emotion in mind (happy, sad, angry, angsty, etc.) so I just started by scrolling through my iTunes library. I decided on the song “Flowers In Your Hair” by The Lumineers. It’s not too long of a song and it would be easy to make it sound really happy. The next step was to find some background music that could be put with a happy set of lyrics. So naturally, I turned to YouTube. Here’s the music I decided to use:

I then imported that song into Audacity. Next I recorded my reading of the lyrics and overlapped it with the music in Audacity. I trimmed the music to the length of time it took for me to read it and then I was basically done. The last thing was to export the file from Audacity and install onto my soundcloud account. The original song by The Lumineers and my remix of it are both below:

Here’s the original song by The Lumineers:

And here’s my dramatic reading (please don’t laugh):

Just Around the Riverbend: A Dramatic Reading (REMIX)

This week one of the possible audio assignments was to a dramatic reading remix for 3.5 stars. I wanted to do this one again about my character, Isabelle. I tried to find a song she could potentially relate to and then make it even more dramatic. She’s a very naturally curious person so my first thoughts were pretty basic: Mr. Curiosity by Jason Mraz and Curiosity by Carly Rae Jepson. When I looked further into the lyrics they’re both extremely romanticized and that’s not really what Isabelle’s focus is. Her interests lie more in pursuit of knowledge, not getting a boyfriend. I poked around the internet further and found Pocahontas’ “Just Around the Riverbend” to be perfect. I cut out one line that was very specific to the movie (her marrying Kocoum) because it doesn’t really relate to Isabelle. Finally, I found some instrumental music on sound cloud and paired it up with my reading of the song (I’ve run into some issues with soundcloud and copyright recently). It lined beautifully to create a call and effect feel. The music ends just before the reading cuts off and creates emphasis on the riverbend and therefore the unknown.

At Dawn We Ride!

Audio Assignment:

Dramatic Reading Remix 3.5?

For this assignment we were supposed to read a song incredibly dramatically and set it to other music. Then we were supposed to post the original song for comparison.

I chose my favorite song at the moment. ‘I Lived’ by OneRepublic is a very passionate song about doing everything in life that you want to do. It’s very inspirational to many fans of the band.

So this is the original song. I hope you guys like it as much as me.

And here is my remake of it. I used music from Lord of The Rings so that’s why you see some of the fellowship. As I was dramatically reading the lyrics I realized that it kind of sounded like I was giving a speech to soldiers about to go off to war or something similar to that.

For this assignment I used Audacity to record my  reading of the song. I then imported the background music and cut it down to only what I needed. I exported the file and uploaded it to Soundcloud and the lastly embedded it into this post.

For the original song, I looked it up on Soundcloud and embedded it into the post.

Find Me in My Castle

Audio Assignment – Dramatic Reading Remix

For this audio assignment, I had to (dramatically) read the lyrics of one song and then add the music of another completely random song to create an abstract musical remix. The following content is explicit due to strong language.

I immediately knew what song I wanted to read for this project just because of the lyrics it has. Castle by Macklemore. The message behind the song is not the best but thats besides the point. I printed out the lyrics and opened up audacity. I started recording and read my heart out. Whenever I would mess up, similar to my last project, I would pause for a second and start the stanza over. As I have said before, this makes the editing process easy. Once I got the entire song down, it was time to pick a song. I went to my iTunes library and sorted the songs by time duration. My final fead was approx. 3:50 long so I was looking for music with similar times. I closed my eyes and randomly clicked on a song and this was the one. The Prayer by lil Wayne haha. I imported it into Audacity and had to adjust all the sound so the reading wasn’t drowned out.

I am actually really not happy with the way this came out. I think reading these lyrics wasn’t as great as I had hoped it would have been. Idk, Its missing something?? But yeah, not too thrilled with the outcome. Any suggestions?

3.5 STARS

American Tennis Court

For this assignment (worth 3.5 stars), I had to set a dramatic reading of a song to the tune of another song. I chose to make my dramatic reading rhythmic, making it seem like more of a rap. The song I chose was American Pie by Don McLean, set to the music of Lorde’s Tennis Court. I used Garageband and an empty practice room to do my recording and editing.
