I chose to do this assignment after I ran into copyright issues on Soundcloud

I knew it was possible, but I was having a hard time finding assignments to do that didn’t have to do with music. I kind of felt like I was going to run into copyright issues wherever I went, even with creative commons.

I spent 3 hours this weekend mashing up two eighties songs this weekend, but it’s okay, it’s my own fault.

So here I am. I decided to do something that I wouldn’t run into copyright issues that could still fit our theme, and I found the whistling assignment where I record myself whistling a song that everyone has to guess.

The biggest issue with this assignment was getting clear audio of my whistling without it sounding “windy.” I edited it the best that I can!

I’ll give you a hint: This assignment sticks to our theme this semester and isn’t anything difficult.

I simply recorded myself on Audacity for this one!

For this assignment we were instructed to whistle a song that has been stuck in our heads and upload it and try and have our classmates guess what song it is. This was fun and easy for me because I ALWAYS have songs stuck in my head so it wasn’t hard to come up with a song to whistle. I actually can’t whistle so I had my boyfriend whistle the song for me.

The song I had stuck in my head was a really weird song from a British tv show that I’m not even sure what it is called. It must have been from the 70’s or 80’s but I saw it on twitter and had it stuck in my head for a day. This is the link to the original song:

For my last assignment I whistled a song that was stuck in my head. This was actually a challenge for me because I am very bad at whistling, but I gave it a shot. I tried to pick a song where the beat was very distinguishable so it would be easy for somebody to figure out. Can anybody guess what song this is? I recorded it using audacity and uploaded it to soundcloud. I think I did an alright job making the beat so I hope someone can figure it out.

DS106 Assignment Bank: Can’t Get It Out Of My Head

This week’s assignment bank task was to choose an audio assignment. I selected Can’t Get It Out Of My Head.

The instructions are: “Use some auido [sic] recording software, I used audacity, to record yourself whistling a song that has gotten stuck in your head before. Then upload it to soundlcoud [sic]. But don’t title it with the original song’s title. Let your classmates guess what song you were whistling. Have Fun!!”

So, I have embedded an audio file of me humming a sung that I find myself humming when I am super busy at work. It seems to come from the part of my brain that would normally wander if I don’t keep it occupied. Also, I ended up humming it becuase I just can’t seem to whistle loud enough to be picked up by my microphone. Enjoy and feel free to submit your guesses!
