We only got one life….

I knew instantly what song I wanted to choose for the What a Song Might Mean to You Assignment (3.5 stars). My two friends and I went on a bus tour for spring break while I was abroad, and the bus driver and tour guide picked a song that represented our group to play each morning as we went to a new city. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life, and this song still brings back so many good memories of new experiences and people.

Here’s a video of Pitbull’s Greenlight:

I first looked on YouTube for a video of Pitbull’s Greenlight. Once I had chosen the video, I moved on to type up a few notes on what I wanted to say about the song. I thought about why it meant so much to me and some experiences where I heard it and it reminded me of spring break. I then went to iMovie to record my audio of myself talking about the song. I played back the audio to make sure I liked it and did a few touch up edits, such as cutting the beginning and ending blank spaces. I then exported the iMovie video to my desktop and uploaded it to SoundCloud.

I enjoyed getting a chance to talk about why I loved Spring Break and this song so much!

What a song might mean to you

I did the What a song might mean to you assignment. I choose Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men for reasons that I’m explaining in the soundcloud clip further down.

Oh jeez, hello!

Today has been incredibly crazy but I was able to make some time to record a special audio assignment today: A song that means something to you. As soon as I read the assignment details, I immediately wrote it down for the week and I’m so excited to share it with you all.

Please keep in mind though; I mention very vaguely about a situation from my past that I didn’t go into specifics with because I didn’t wish to trigger anyone…or cry while recording, so if you’d like clarification, please feel free to ask and I’ll be happy to answer.

So, if you don’t remember my post from last week, I had created a gif from a live performance of a song called “Kanariya” by Ayumi Hamasaki. While I kind of briefly talk about my experience listening to this song…I wanted to explain a little more in depth as to what lyrics I specifically love and how the song reminds me of my past.

If you would like to listen to the song, the YouTube video is down below and the lyrics are here!

Also, a video on how I edited the audio is coming soon!!

Did you complete this audio assignment? What are your thoughts?

What A Song Means to You

This song means a lot to me! It is the perfect description of my relationship with my father who is my best friend. It is actually the song that my father and I will dance together to at my wedding. Every time I hear the song it makes me cry. My dad and I are both big Tim McGraw fans and this song is just perfect for us.

For this assignment, I had to choose a song, find a video for it, and then record a clip of why it means so much for me.

It was a toss up for me between “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan and “You Should be Here” by Cole Swindell. They honestly both mean a lot to me but for the same reasons. In the end, I chose “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan because it resonated just a little bit more to me. For those who haven’t heard the song or who aren’t country music fans, it’s a beautiful song that is basically a memorial. Here is a music video for it :

And this is is the sound clip of what it means to me and why:

“Happy” Song Meaning and Interpretation

For my first Audio Assignment, I completed “What A Song Might Mean to You” (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/what-a-song-might-mean-to-you/). For this assignment, I had to chose a song which reminded me of something meaningful or significant, then create an audio recording discussing this. I wanted to pick a song which had personal significance for me, and also portrayed a range of emotions. After reflecting on some song options, I decided that the most meaningful song I could easily describe would be “Happy” by Marina and the Diamonds, displayed below.

In my blog intro, I finished my personal introductions by choosing this song as a personal favorite to enjoy over the holidays or to sing in my free time. I found that after outlining my thoughts on the song, the most difficult part of my recording was in moderating nervous speaking habits such as “um”s. I did my best at controlling these speaking tendencies, and will hopefully improve if I do any future recordings! Listen to my assignment audio to find out it why it brings me a unique happiness.

A challenge I had with the technical aspects of making the SoundCloud recording was that when I recorded my initial discussion at about 3:30 minutes, the audio continuously became corrupted. Only when I shortened the length to around 2:20 minutes did it correctly process with an attached image and title added after. I attribute this potentially to my weak Wifi connection, but luckily I was talking slower with unnecessary pauses, and I could actually present all my thoughts clearly with less pauses as a result. I didn’t outline as much material as I thought I actually had to discuss! I’d view this assignment as intermediate, because I personally find recording content through SoundCloud a challenge just based on my own nerves and communication/delivery abilities.

What a song means to me

This is my take on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/what-a-song-might-mean-to-you/).

I decided to choose something people had most likely not heard before that still feels amazing to me.

Below is my song.

And here is my reasoning behind the song.

What Andy Mckee’s “Drifting” Means to Me

This assignment asked me to record myself explaining what a song means to me. The part of this assignment that made me thing the most was deciding which song to talk about. I’m a music fanatic, so there’s a whole library of songs that are meaningful to me. Thus, I decided to go with a song that would tell the most interesting story without going to deep and emotional. I chose “Drifting” by Andy Mckee.

What a Song Might Mean to You

Music has always been a very important aspect in my life. It’s so hard to choose song that reminds me of one particular moment. Music has been woven throughout every single important event that I have experienced. These songs conjure both good and bad memories, but no matter the memory they are still important to me. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized that certain songs remind me of some of my…
