She’s a Maneater??

I did this 3-star assignment after seeing a classmate, Abbey Cassell, do it....

We Are the World

3 Stars

We Are the World is one of my favorite songs from the 80’s. I love getting to see all the artists together making something beautiful. And it was really cool when they redid the song when I was in middle school.

This assignment was harder than I thought. I tried following the assignment recommendation of using YouTube Doubler, but I didn’t like the way it looked. So I decided to hard wire the song the way I wanted it to. The only thing I don’t like about how the sound turned out is the small gaps and lurches in the song. But, for my first time doing something this major, I think it turned out ok.

Original & Cover Song Mashup

This assignment, which was 3 stars, required me to mashup the same song covered by two different artists. I chose to do the original version of Passenger’s “Let Her Go” and a cover by Boyce Avenue. I again used my voice recording app on my iPhone to record the parts of the two versions of the song to make the mashup. I then uploaded the recordings into Audacity and started to edit the clips to make them flow together. This was a little difficult because I had to make sure I was starting and ending each clip at the right lyric or right beat. However, once I finished it, I liked the final product. The final version is up on my SoundCloud!

Covers By Different Artists Same Song

For this assignment, I used Youtube Doubler as suggested in the assignment page to mash up to cover song from 2 different artists. The song I chose was the popular summer ear-worm Despacito.

Hallelujah Mashup

For week 5, an assignment I decided to complete was entitled “Covers by Different Artists-Same Song.” I chose this assignment as I love mashups as well as covers, so why not put the two together? The assignment recommended using Youtube Doubler to complete the mashup, so naturally, I found my videos on YouTube.

I decided to look for covers of the song Hallelujah because it is a really pretty song that a lot of people love, so I figured that there is bound to be plenty of covers on the song. When I started my search, I wanted to find both a male and female singer so that they would be different enough from each other but still be the same song. The first video I found was a cover created by Samantha Harvey, and the second by TONYB. When I mashed them up (embedded below) they were not perfectly matched up. They more so echoed each other, which I really liked. When it got to the first chorus, the two were in complete sync after being off for the first voice and it was perfect! Some people may not like that the two don’t match up, but trust me, it gets so good at the chorus!

The Obstacles of Music Mashups

For one of my assignments this week I decided to cover with the assignment post from the Audio section 2021. This assignment said to take two different covers of the same song an use YouTube Doubler to create a mashup. I chose to do a Send My Love Cover Mashup using the song from Adele. I chose this assignment, because it included two things that I really enjoy listening to myself, covers and mashups. With this assignment, I would be able to create something that I myself enjoy listening to.

I found one version of Send My Love by Adele when it first came out when four different people sang it while playing Patty Cake and I really wanted to incorporate it this video when I saw that it said to use covers. Although I realized that this would not be overly simple because I know that covers can be very different even if they’re based on the same song; it ended up being much harder than I anticipated. Because they were covers people would often alter the tempo and that made it very difficult to find two videos that matched up well. There was also an issue where one video would load and start playing before the other so that would sometimes throw the timing off and I couldn’t tell if it was a problem with the video itself or just the loading.

Ultimately, after watching and trying many different videos, I decide to go with the Patty Cake cover by KHS, Sam Tsui, Madilyn Bailey, and Alex G along with the cover by Jonah Baker. I chose to go this route with this assignment because I often lean more towards acoustic covers of songs and this had the acoustics and the interesting combination of clapping in the Patty Cake cover. Although I like this song it is not necessarily one of my favorites. However, I love this cover so when I read the assignment description the Patty Cake version immediately came to mind and I knew I wanted to do something with it if at all possible.

I had to set it so that the video by Jonah Baker starts a little further in than the Patty Cake version, but with that setting the first verse is practically in perfect sync and then the chorus and subsequent verses are a cannon where a line is said in one video and then repeated in another and I really like the affect. Although some may be bothered by the songs not matching up perfectly the whole way through, I really like the variations in the audio and the tones it gives the song overall. This assignment really gave me an appreciation for the effort it takes to match up two videos or songs to create one well-blended version.

Colors of the Wind

This assignment took a really long time for me to complete, mostly because I could not find clips with singers singing the same versions of the song. I did not anticipate such time consumption because I started with a thought, “It’ll be easy; I will find two versions of the same song and combine them using a mashup program.” Little did I realize that every singers are individuals with different voices, or rather emotions. The emotions that they put into the song resulted in different variations of the song. I loved hearing everyone’s versions of the song because they illustrated their own uniqueness very well. The process of changing songs as well as changing the start times was painstaking, however, I am very satisfied with the result and also came to a conclusion that we are all unique in our own little ways.

Same Song, Same Thing

For this assignment, Covers By Different Artists- Same Song, we are meant to create a mash-up of a song that has been made into a cover by someone. The best and my most favorite example to use for this is “Tainted Love”. People think that Soft Cell where the first to sing this. Even though they were the ones to make it popular, they just did a cover of “Tainted Love.” Even Marilyn Manson has done a cover of this song! However the true original artist to sing this song is Gloria Jones in 1964, then Soft Cell covered it in 1981, and finally Marilyn Manson covered it again in 2001. Even though, I did not create this mash-up, it is basically the same thing that I was going to make. I wanted to see if anyone else made the same mash-up and it looks like “Pancake Dad” beat me to it! Anyway, enjoy this mash-up of all three versions, and be sure to listen to all three versions, for they are very different from one another!

Covers by different Artists- Same song

I have used Youtube Doubler as my source to create a mashup. The song is called “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. The 2 videos are covered by 2 different artists; Venosa and Alyona. This is one of my favorite songs and I like listening to it with both male and femal version.
