Week Five Assignments

This Assignment is AudioAssignments, AudioAssignments70. I had to create a story by using five different sounds and no speaking. I chose to get my sounds from freesounds.org. I was able to then put the sounds in a video and use an app to convert the video to audio. The story is about a man who wakes up and knocks his phone off his bed. Then panics because it hit the ground, but is relieved to find it not cracked when he picks it up. This assignment is worth 3 and 1/2 stars.

This is AudioAssignment2120 and I had to create a convo using Disney Princess songs. I chose songs from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Pocahontas. The convo is “I’m Wishing- The Dream that you wish will come true- And for once it might be grand to have some one understand-You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew. Worth 3 stars.

This is my final assignment which is AudioAssignments2074. I made a mixtape of my pregame warm up jams. I made it as a downloadable movie because of fear of copy right. Also I used funny picture of my roommate! This was 4 stars.

Tech battle recording

A typical Tech battle. Also known as your typical Transformers movie plot.

Sound Effects Story

One of the assignments we had to do was the “Sound Effects Story”. This was an interesting exercise, but I wasn’t sure where to start with it. It’s difficult to communicate a narrative without words; dialogue is vitally important to audio storytelling.

My story ended up being about a kitchen fire.

I browsed the freesound website looking for inspiration. Once I saw how many cooking related noises there were, I got the idea to do something with a kitchen fire. It was a little difficult to find sounds that were distinct enough for it to read, but I think I managed okay.

Barnyard Underworld

An epic story from the barnyard, about a young bull and his quest for revenge on the infamous Triad Chickens of the west side. Will he be able to end the chickens reign of terror? tune in to find out.

Made using Free Sounds, and Audacity.

Ceto Rises

That’s right. Ceto’s back.

Since we had to incorporate our character (again), I decided that my Sound Effects Story should accompany Ceto’s introduction. Yes, my idea of this scene was so vivid that I felt compelled to add another layer to the madness.

Thankfully, I learned how to use Audacity this past summer while creating a mix for my belly dance troupe. But editing music is pretty different from composing a story with only sounds. All clips were retrieved from  freesound.org. Once I had the sounds I needed, I imported, trimmed & even duplicated some of the pieces, then arranged them in the order that corresponded with my idea of Ceto’s introduction. When I was sure of the order, I tried to level the volume and tempo in any spots that seemed off. I ended up using a total of 10 sound clips to create an 80 second-long story.

I knew this was going to be challenging, and you might not be able to tell what’s going on based on just the audio, but gosh darn I tried. And maybe I’m biased because I wrote the scene, but I like the way it turned out.

Morph Shadow’s Attack!

This week, we were all tasked with completing the Sound Effects Story Assignment. For the story, we were only to use sound effects and the story had to be under 90 seconds. I knew right off the bat that I would want to create a story using my Character Morph Shadow, but it took me some thinking to figure out what exactly to do. Then, I came up with the idea of creating a fight scene through sounds. To do this, I found sounds on FreeSound and downloaded them to my computer. Then, one by one, I placed the effects into Audacity in the order I wanted them to appear.

I began with an alarm clock effect that is actually her signal for when there is trouble in Fredericksville as she did not want to seem suspicious with any typical superhero call sounds. Then, you can hear the action sound effects begin, with sounds like her zipping up her uniform and dashing away to the scene. Then, the action sound continues as she fights the evil villain, Janice, until you hear grunts signifying the end of the fight and Morph Shadow’s victory. The spectators then begin to cheer as Morph Shadow saved Fredericksville, but she dashes away before she is recognized by anyone. Once home, Morph Shadow hops in the shower, brushes her teeth, and jumps into bed for a night of well-deserved rest.

Sound effects story

So I finally started getting a hang of Audacity, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve watched plenty of tutorials. I’ve never done any mixing/mashing whatever you want to call it before.

So I did the Sound Effects Story, which was harder than I anticipated but ended okay. If I didn’t have another 30 things on my to do list for school this week I would play with it more.

Assignment Bank 2 (Week Five):

“I can see you”

I can’t stop relating all of my assignments to Jester now. I was asked to complete the audio assignment – Sound Effects Story. It involves telling a story using nothing but sound effects. There can be no verbal communication, only sound effects. Utilize at least five different sounds that you found online. The story can be no longer than 90 seconds. I decided to tell an eerie story of Jester capturing his next victim:

Dark Room: Even Superheroes Can’t Save Everyone

It’s a very dark audio warning people now. I knew I wanted something emotional for the audio but I didn’t know it would come out like this and actually make me feel a little uncomfortable. Other than wanting an emotional audio I’m not sure where the inspiration came from. Maybe it’s because a lot of my friends have gone through and are going through a lot of terrible things and I’m very grateful that they chose to get help and not resort to suicide. Though they are all still recovering they are in much better places then when they started their recovery.  Just to state I am not thinking about hurting myself it has just been relevant in my friends life and I’ve been scared for them and unsure what they would do. When people you care about aren’t in the right mind and aren’t even sure what they are capable of, you worry and start to imagine something terrible might happen.
