Agent Smith – Sound Effects

This week…..I am required to do a bunch of audio testing for new spy equipment that will be supplied to all….super secret spys in the agency. For starters, this is just a test to show whether or not you can make a story…out of only sounds! First…I decided to pick sounds of a guy running away. BUT THEN! It suddenly evolved into being chased by the cops after running away from failing to infiltrate a persons house! He is definitely not a secret agent!

Sound effects story

This was my second audio assignment and I enjoyed this so much because there was so much room for creativity. I took it upon myself to tell the story with only sound effects from free sources of a small town Kansas farmer named Ted Hanks who goes about his day to day business of feeding his dogs, going to the store, and tending to his animals. But today is not like most days. After doing his usual chores a tornado warning comes out of no where. There was no forecast for one so he grabbed his child and got to their storm bunker, but then a horrible crash comes from no where, because the tornado is bearing down on them. Then an awful crash is heard and the wind blows on. Check it out below:

Friday Feels Story

So for my story using ONLY sound, I decided to do what my Friday’s usually sound like. I got all of the sounds from freesounds.org and mashed together what a typical Friday sounds like to me. Hope you enjoy!

Sound Effects of Agent Zero

One of the required audio assignment was  http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/sound-effects-story/. For this assignment you had to tell a story using only sounds. Since we had to incorporate our secret agent character, I decided that this assignment was perfect to combine my character with. Once I knew what I was going to do, I used the sounds from https://www.freesound.org/. It took a while to choose the right sounds that I wanted but once I did I downloaded them. I decided to use Audacity to combine the sounds.I was confused on how I would combine the sounds but I got the hang of it one I accidentally deleted one section of the sound. In no time I was creating Agent Zero’s story and I uploaded the final product on SoundCloud. The Sound Effect Story narrated one of Agent Zero’s mission where her target actually had some fight in him but in the end she could kill him.

Finish Product:

Cooking Dinner

For this assignment, I tried to get the sounds of the daily routine of someone cooking dinner and setting up the dining room table. This was my first time working with audacity, and I don’t think it was too hard. All the sounds I used were from Free Sound. I uploaded the sounds and played around with them till I got the right cuts. I got a little confused and had to google at one point when I uploaded a track, and it came on as two tracks in one so I had to figure out how to make it into a single track so I could copy and paste it into another track.
I could not figure out how to save it into an MP3 though, so I saved it as .aiff and it uploaded into SoundCloud fine.

Below is my final version of my project!

Sound Effect Story

This was based on the assignment found here (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/sound-effects-story/).

I tried to convey a story of someone gaming through both a success and failure. I tried to indicate success with the happy chime, but failure with the repetitive laser beeping sound. I feel like it kind of conveys what I was imagining but only if the context is there.

Sound Effect Story

Sound Effect Story this 3 1/2 star assignment was our mandatory one for the set of assignments for the week. Honestly though that was cool with me because it was pretty awesome. I decided to make mine within the secret agent theme and along with my character.

I decided to play into strong tropes of running and stealing things, you know classic spy concepts. So for my story I used Audacity and 7 different sounds from Free Sound. I layered the breathing sounds with the paper sounds because I felt like the paper alone sounded to unrealistic and removed.

I am happy with how it turned out but when I was searching for breathing sounds I found most of them were for men not women which with breathing sounds like a silly distinction. However there would have been too much of a shift in vocal ranges from the breathing to the gasp so I had to really hunt for some clear ones.

Chihuahua Performs at Local Comedy Club and the Crowd Can’t get Enough

This is my response to the Sound Effects Stories assignment, worth 3.5 stars. I had to merge various sound effects to create a story. Here, I tell the story of a Chihuahua who performs at a comedy club and is quite loved by the crowd. Most of the sounds are from freesounds.com. I tapped my webcam mic for the soundcheck tapping and scratching as well as the breath sound. I recorded the ambiance of my room as a subtle effect to make it sound more like all of this audio was recorded in the same place.

Fun fact: I love space. So, for my sound effect story, I made this:

Essentially what goes on is someone is in their spaceship and they leave the space station they’re in. They cruise in hyperspeed for a bit before they receive a distress signal. They drop out of hyperspeed and turn on their scanners to search for the ship emitting the distress signal. Shortly after locking onto the signal, their ship is hit by a missile. Turns out the distress signal was a fake set up by some pirates to ambush good samaritans. As their ship is getting destroyed, the pilot chooses to pull the emergency escape lever and ejects from the ship.

To make this, I used Audacity (of course) and a ton of sounds that I found on freesound. I know the assignment was only supposed to be 90 seconds max, but I wanted to add a couple more seconds at the end, so I ended up making it 94 seconds. Hope that’s okay!

(Note: the title is morse code for SOS, which is the distress signal the pilot receives)
