Sound Effects Story

Here’s the audio story of Deidra getting out of school on a Friday. After a long week filled with so much homework and exams, she was excited to leave school after her last class.

These are some of the sounds that Deidra heard today while leaving school and making her way back home. I tried to capture a mix of sounds that I enjoyed hearing while I was in high school and a few of the sounds I hear when I come home.

Follow along and see if you can tell what’s going on in the story based on the sounds.

Sound Effects Story

Sound Effects story took me the most amount of time. It was difficult coming up with what story to do let alone actually create it. I decided to do the story of a sports game. I hope it somewhat resembles a game. I’ve been to enough to know!

Sound Effects Story

I made a short little story about Irri using only sound effects! I like to think that he woke up from a nightmare, got into a fight with a lawn mower, and was shot out through a portal to the beach. I tried to use only sounds that I either collected or created (one sound is from Majora’s Mask but I did collect it myself).

Do you know what’s happening?

Can you guess the story of these sounds?

This is someone cooking something and then in the end burning themselves when they take it out. Sounds featured are an egg crack, milk being poured, the bowl being stirred, it going in the pan and into the oven, the timer of the oven, the milk being put away, the timer going off, and then the man cooking burning himself on the pan when he pulls it out.

One frustration I had with this little story was that I could not get all of the sounds to be the exact same volume. I feel that it would have been more cohesive if it was. This is my final product, and overall I am proud of it because it took me a bit to think of a story that I could do and then find the sound effects for it!

This was the Sound Effects Story worth 3 and a half stars.

I used freesound.org for the sound of this video.

Sound Effects Story

I found this assignment to be very interesting because we had to use sound effects to tell a story. I used six different sound effects – sleeping, barking dog, yawning, walking on hardwood floor, opening and closing a door, and outside birds – to tell this story. This is the story of a person who is awoken by their barking dog. So they wake up and take their dog outdoors. Outside, you can hear the bird signing and the commotion of the city.

Putting the assignment together was a bit difficult because I did not know how to use audacity and had to read and watch a few tutorials. However, once I got the hang of it, it was easy. Downloading the sound effects was easy as well because I used the link that was provided on the assignment description.

Ice Cream Truck!

For my story using sound effects, I chose a kid swinging on a swing and he/she hears the ice cream truck coming, and they just go running. I chose that specific story because that is such a great memory for me as a kid. I lived in a small neighborhood, and whenever the ice cream truck came around, or most of the time, my dad always let my brother and I get ice cream. My ultimate favorite to get was the spongebob ice cream cones! The link to the spongebob ice cream has a very weird video I found, so I hope you guys enyoy that! hahahaha

So, I created this audio with Logic on one of the omputers in the HCC. Audacity seemed way more complicated, so I gave up on it and used something else. In order to get the audio into wordpress though, I had to bounce the file. That took me a minute to figure out. I was strugling hard core since this is my first assignment I’ve done, but a super nice guy knows about Logic and helped me figure this out! YAY! I got all my sounds from freesound.org, and they came out really good. I couldn’t find the very best sounds for some of the parts, but I did my best! This assignment is 4 stars.

A Realistic Horror Story

I hope you didn’t have your volume turned up for that one!

For my first assignment this week I’ve created a story using only sound effects for 4 stars. You had to use only sound effects and no voices, with a minimum of 5 different sound effects.

Despite our theme of mythology, I created a more realistic horror story for this assignment. Having someone outside who comes into your house unauthorized is personally one of my greatest fears, which I’m sure is one shared by many people. I wanted to make the story more interesting than a mundane one, to have something dramatic and frightening happen, so, in this story, I embodied that common fear we all share.

I used 7 sounds to illustrate this story. It starts with a car driving up a gravel road, then a car door opening and slamming. Then, you hear slow footsteps across a paved surface as the intruder walks across the porch. Then, you hear the creaking of the door as they open it (why did you leave the door unlocked?). After hearing quiet footsteps on wood floor, the intruder catches you! Then, you hear two screams, that of a man and a woman. Ahhhhh!

I think that I did a pretty good job in choosing the sound effects for this story. For example, I think the slow footsteps outside help to set the mood, to make it creepier than fast footsteps might. Additionally, the car pulling up slowly for a long duration of time helps set the mood and keep the listener on edge, wondering what will happen when the car pulls up.

For this project, I used Audacity to mash together sounds I downloaded from freesound.org. This was my first time ever using Audacity, so it was quite difficult to get started, especially with cutting clips and getting them where I wanted in the timeline (which seems like a simple task, and yet I fought the program significantly for it). I didn’t experiment much with editing the sounds, except an option to even out the overall volume of the clip (which maybe worked?), but I look forward to exploring those in the future. I’m no expert in Audacity and audio editing for certain, but it feels good to have accomplished an audio clip that tells the story I had in mind!

Medieval story

This is a medieval story using only a woman’s humming voice.

Sound Effects Story

Using Audacity I created a 5 sound effect story. Trial and error brought me to this finished product.
