Storytelling through pictures

I am a thrower on the UMW varsity Track and Field team and sports play a big role in my life. I was trying to find pictures of my progression through sports but it was hard to find them from the earlier years so I just focused on track. I didnt take many pictures or videos of me throwing in my earlier years of highschool. It wasn’t until college when I started filming my throws. This is my 7th year throwing and here is the progression of me throwing the hammer.

Deidra’s Storytelling Through Pictures

For this assignment, I chose to tell the story of the time my character, Deidra the Determinator, broke her leg in high school. I chose to use clip art pictures to tell her story.

It was Deidra’s sophomore year of high school. She had finally made the varsity cheer-leading team and was very excited. Whenever she was free, she would practice her routines and her tumbling. As her team was preparing for competition, they decided to add new stunts to improve their routine. After spending multiple weeks trying to nail this stunt, her team began to feel defeated because they were still having difficulty completing the routine perfectly. The captain wanted to take part of the stunt, where Deidra would be high up in the air, out of the routine but Deidra was determined to master it and showcase it at the competition. She believed that part of the stunt was their secret weapon and would help their team win number one. After practicing a few more times, the team was finally able to nail their routine. The day before the competition, the team practiced one more time. The practice was going great until the very end of the routine where Deidra was in the air. Coming down, Deidra fell pretty hard and ended up breaking her leg. Not only would she have to wear a cast until her leg was healed, but she also couldn’t compete in the competition.

Since she couldn’t cheer with her leg being broken, Deidra had so much more free time on her hands. To save herself from complete boredom, she started drawing and creating things on paper that she had thought up in her mind. She didn’t think her work was that great but some of her friends saw her pieces and were completely amazed by what they saw. Her friends encouraged her to continue with her creativity and even suggested that she look into a few art classes to help her improve her artistic creative ability. While she still loves cheering and hopes to get back to it soon, she found another passion for art and used that as a way to occupy her free time while she waited for her foot to leg to heal.

My Life In Photos

For my last design assignment of week two I decided to do the storytelling through photos. In case there is any confusion I will explain my story of photos. I didn’t start my story when I was born in this case. I decided to start my story a little later, when I graduated from High school. The first picture of my collage is the day I graduated high school June 15, 2013. The 2nd picture in my collage is my graduation photos when I was graduating from Germanna Community College in May of 2016 with my Associates Degree in Information Systems Technology, Two career studies certificates in E-Commerce and Micro Computer Applications for Business. The 3rd and 4th picture are also from my graduation photos. My 5th and 6th photo is explaining the next part of my journey at the time and my present as of today. My next step would be the University of Mary Washington where I will get my Bachelor’s in Computer Science.

In order to create this collage I downloaded an app from the app store on my iphone called LiveCollage which can also be used on Androids.

Summer Tutoring!

Summer Tutoring

This assignment was inspired by Carlee’s summer tutoring poster in which her character Bonnie Sue and my Danny Keys teamed up to tutor kids! I decided to put together a narrative story through icons of what the summer program was like! In this story, you can see the horse at the top bringing the kids in to learn writing, reading, math and science, and finally piano before the horses come to take the kids home. Bonnie Sue handles all of the educational tutoring parts while Danny is providing the music. This is the daily run of the summer tutoring sessions as I imagine them.

I found the icons on Noun Project, and all of the credit runs alongside the respective icons. I put the icons together in Paint.Net. This project was fun to make, since I based it off of Carlee’s scenario. I just decided on how each day would go with a series of words and then put those words into the Noun Project database to find the appropriate icons. Once I found them, I tried to cascade them to have a sense of flow, with the piano slightly off kilter to show that it is an almost separate but present part of the tutoring.

My Life As A Horse Addict

Had a lot of fun with this visual assignment! I used Animoto to create this video. It is a great video creator. Unfortunately, in order to get rid of the watermark, you must pay to upgrade. With that being said, I apologize for the distraction. If anyone has any suggestions as to a better program please let me know. The reason I chose horses to tell my life story is because, as cliche as this may sound, horses really are my life. I am sure you can tell that from watching the video. Hope you enjoyed an can see a little more into what my hobby (and job) is like!

Storytelling Through Pictures

Storytelling is the best way to get a message across, to be creative and to speak ones mind. For this assignment you can tell the story of your life through pictures in whatever way you chose. Whether you tell us about your life as a child and show pictures of the best times of your life, like walking and rolling (maybe a future gymnast?) we want to see! You could even make a timeline of the most important parts of your life, like getting your license and loosing your first tooth. Or maybe all about you’re college experience, the friends made and lessons learned. Tell us your story, through pictures. Try not to use words, let the pictures speak for themselves and have fun. Take some thought into it and really reach far and try to show us what your life is made of, whats important to you. You can make a college or a timeline, whatever you think acurately shows the story of what you are trying to show the best.
