Rocky meets ET

For this assignment you need to mash up two different iconic movie scenes. However, you should aim to be as subtle as possible. Perhaps a famous prop that simply doesn’t belong or a character that looks a little out of place.

Assignment Bank- Mashup Assignments

I mashed together two iconic movies scenes in order to get this interesting final product. The obvious movie is Rocky, but can you tell that something is mashed up with it?

You can see the bike from E.T. in the sky in the background. I realize the bicycle is probably too large, but it’s still the bike from the famous scene from E.T. The difference is fairly subtle, but it makes for a funny mashup.

In order to create this mashup, I first went through a list of iconic movie scenes. I had a couple in mind already, but I wanted to explore more options. I came across this scene from Rocky, and I knew it would be perfect for this assignment. I also knew that I wanted to do something with E.T. whether it was the bike or the scene where E.T. wants to “phone home”.

I used Adobe Photoshop Mix on my phone to create this image. It hard to cut out the bike from E.T. onto the image from Rocky. The bicycle was relatively small, so it was hard to move around and scale. I was cautious not to make the bike too small because then it would be difficult to tell what it is.

This mashup was really fun to make, and fun to look at, also. It was hard trying to maneuver the pictures around and actually find good pictures to use, but I like how it turned out. In the end, the difficulties only improved my photoshop skills.

E.T., Don’t Forget the Umbrella!

Mia enjoys a wide variety of different movies. She’s just as happy to watch a thriller as a rom-com (although she has a soft spot for spy movies!) If she had to choose her five favorite movies, “Mary Poppins” and “E.T.” would both be on the list. This is interesting, since both of those movies have characters that come from the sky.

The “This Doesn’t Belong Here” assignment was to “Mash up two different iconic movie scenes. However, you should aim to be as subtle as possible. Perhaps a famous prop that simply doesn’t belong or a character that looks a little out of place.”

In honor of Mia’s favorites, I decided to mashup a famous scene from E.T. and a famous prop from Mary Poppins. I chose the scene where Elliott and E.T. are riding the bicycle through the sky and pass in front of the moon, along with the umbrella that Mary Poppins carries. I found both pictures online and uploaded them to Canva, where I designed the image.

I tried to do it in a way that looked believable, and I think I succeeded! If you didn’t know what the original picture looked like, nothing about the image would look unusual. This assignment would have been challenging to me in the past, but with all the skills I have learned in this class, it was pretty fun!

Jaws Caused the Titanic to Sink???

For this assignment I had to mix together two key scenes from two movies, basically combining them together to make an out of place scene occur but at the same time making it seem subtle. For this I ended combining everyone favorite tragic love story, the Titanic, with everyone’s favorite shark movie, Jaws. Every time I watch the Titanic I always ask myself “what about the sharks? I don’t know what would be scarier, drowning as the ship goes down or waiting for a shark to pick me off”. Even though the location of where the titanic sank is to cold for sharks, especially the Great White, Titanic survivors wouldn’t really have to worry about sharks unless they drifted further out. You may think that a great white shark in these waters would be extremely unlikely or even impossible, but Jaws isn’t your everyday shark. Just imagine, youre on the Titanic and having the time of your life when the boat hits something…is it an iceberg? NO its freaking Jaws. Good luck surviving the sinking cause that shark never stops eating.

Again for this assignment I used adobe Photoshop so similar beginner issues occurred. I did find myself enjoying this particular activity the most of the three mashup assignments I completed.

Mashup 3

For this mashup, I did the This Doesn’t Belong Here mashup. I decided to use a still from the movie Captain Phillips and the movie ET because I thought it’d be weird. So here’s my final product:

Love Triangle’s

I combined these 2 images because I know both of these movies pretty well and enjoyed watching both of them. Also in each movie love triangles are one of the main themes. I wish I could have melded them together but without a better photo editor I can’t.

Hmm Movie Scenes

Here is a picture. What doesn’t belong in this movie scene? Can you figure it out?

This assignment was fun. I am getting really good at editing layers of pictures. I am now able to use this skill in many other assignments which is great!

Assignment

Just Slap Two Scenes Together

This assignment, that I found here, was to choose a movie scene and then sneakily edit in another scene, prop, or person. This assignment was worth 4 stars.

I chose a scene here, from the movie Patriot Games, based on the the book written by Tom Clancy. This scene is where Jack Ryan begins to be tailed the man shown, as he nonchalantly looks at the newspaper. I decided that I would edit in a face of another famous spy, Austin Powers. I imagine that the reason he is staring at the newspaper so intently is because one the most notorious superspies is featured on the front page of the paper.

I chose this scene because it’s actually pretty hard to find a natural place to put a random face. Sure you could just stick anywhere in the background, but that simply isn’t natural and doesn’t carry a sense of belonging. Here, we have a perfect candidate, a newspaper headline.  I used GIMP to do the image manipulation. I first downloaded a png image of Austin Powers, copied it into the scene, and scaled it to size and then finally placing it into its final resting place.

Something Doesn’t Belong Here

For this assignment I had to take a photo from an iconic movie and add it to another iconic movie photo in a  subtle way. Can you tell what two movies they are? Can you find the thing that doesn’t belong here?

I created my assignment using Pixlr.com. Because I did the holiday mashup assignment first, I was familiar with Pixlr and was pretty much able to breeze through this assignment. The only thing that I really needed to do was find the two images that I wanted to use and then download them to my desktop. Then I had to adjust their sizes (make them smaller) so that they weren’t so enlarged when  I layered them on Pixlr to create my finished photo.

102 Dalmatians?

The next assignment I choose to do was the assignment called This doesn’t belong here which was worth 4 stars. This assignment was to mash-up two different iconic movie scenes by adding something like for example a movie prop to another movie scene. I decided use Alice and Wonderland and 101 Dalmatians as my two iconic movie scenes. These movies would be perfect not only because these are one of my favorite movies but also the scenes could be combined. I searched google for a portrait of the 101 Dalmatians which was easy to find. Then I searched the internet for a picture of the Bandersnatch which had spots on its fur that will blind in nicely with the Dalmatians. I usually use paint to edit my photos but this time I wanted to use PIXLR for editing the photos for the first time. At first it was hard to figure out the tools to cut out the Bandersnatch from the background but once I did it was easy to paste on the other picture. However, since the picture had already 101 Dalmatians there was no room to put the Bandersnatch. So, I had to change the size of the picture and put him on the couch to make it seem like he was lounging there. By putting him on the couch, the Bandersnatch does not seem noticeable and makes it look like he was part of the movie. Overall, I am satisfied with the final product and it turned out better than I thought especially using a new site for editing my photos.
