Mashup Those Movies – Remix

I did the “Mashup Those Movies” mashup assignment where you “Take elements from multiple movie posters and mash them up into one. You can change anything- the caption, the title, the main image, etc. Lastly, make it seem like it could be a real movie.” But, I decided to remix this and for the remix, I had to use a Dr. Seuss-inspired character. I decided to use images of Thing1 and Thing 2 and make them the main characters of….”Parent Trap”. I just superimposed the image of things 1 and 2 on top of the Parent Trap movie poster and fill in the colors with the same colors as those in the original movie poster.

Mash Up Assignment: Mash Up Those Movies

I saw the assignment picture and once again got caught up in the world of Twilight. I decided to use that picture of Victoria and put a Terminator twist on it because she basically embodies the famous line and keeps coming back to terrorize and terminate anybody that gets in her way.

New Movie Poster

Alright, lets be real.  Lisbeth is the all time bada** warrior to ever be witnessed in film.  I really liked this movie and when I found this picture on google I knew it would be the perfect fit for a different poster idea and what not.   Although the movies are completely different in nature and context, I think the frame just looks nice and doesn’t seem all that out of place either. I went to pixlr.com in order to import the original still and used the editing tools to insert text.  From there I just placed it where I thought it would be most aesthetically pleasing.

May the odds be ever in your favor.. Mermaid style

For this assignment (3.5 stars) I had to take elements from different movies and movie posters and mash them into one. I decided to use Katniss Everdean from The Hunger Games as the new Queen of the sea because she had a photo from a movie poster that showed her in a Queen-like chair. Then I started thinking about different Kings in movies and the first thing that popped into my mind was King Triton from The Little Mermaid (this was my favorite movie growing up so I put Ariel in there too). Because I wanted to add a little bit more movie diversity, I decided to use the sea setting from Finding Nemo.

Putting everything together was fairly easy. I use Photoshop to do this but had to make the photo backgrounds transparent. I pulled a few tutorials online on how to use Photoshop to make a background transparent and it didn’t work. So I turned to my handy dandy website LunaPic and used the transparent tool to remove the background. After I removed the background from everything that needed to be removed, it was time to start layering. I added the background first and made sure it is where I wanted it to be centered. Then I started placing the images and editing the sizes of the photos to give them a little bit more dimension (longer, wider, etc.) I made sure to put each photo on its own layer so if something wasn’t right I could just delete and replace that image (I finally learned how to delete an image instead of starting over.. YAY!). Then I decided that something needed to be added to the poster so that it was 100% apparent what the story was. I toyed around with the different colors and fonts, length and size, and words.

My final poster is shown below! Are you team Katniss or Triton?!

Mashup Assignment: Pokemon Put Criminals in the Pokey

csi pokemon1 - Copy

This week we got to choose our type of assignment. I start out wanting to try something that involved a little writing. Then I started seeing Twitter conversations about the unexpected gameplay experiences that had cropped up after the launch of Pokemon GO. My mind kept coming back to this augmented reality game and what its popularity might mean for future technology.

I also jumped briefly into one conversation that mentioned using the game to find criminals in parks with this comment:

twitter pokemon

So, I decided that my idea was really just begging for some multimedia to go along with it. I changed tactics, and hunted down an assignment that would let me use my idea for a DS106 project. I found “Mashup Those Movies,” which indicates that one should combine elements from different movie posters to create something that looks like it could be a real movie.

I worked from the idea of two long-standing tv franchises having a future spin-off that sees some of our Pokemon friends living and working independently as they’ve grown up and cast-off the gym battle lifestyle. Now, they’re hardworking detectives trying to do their best in a human-centric world.

Here’s what I made…

csi pokemon1.jpg

The CSI headline and background were elements that I collected from a Google search that led me to this picture. I removed the foreground of the picture just by replicating parts of the plain background and then blending them.

I decided to draw my own Pikachu and Jigglypuff because I like having at least a few elements I create from scratch. Also, drawing the characters gave me more control over their look and expressions. I tried to give them a little bit of age with some extra lines, but kept some of the sweetness of their normal expressions. They are more experienced, but haven’t let go of their natural optimism.

The subtitle and catchphrase are both standard Pokemon elements, adjusted with fonts that straddles the more serious CSI and the playfulness of Pokemon.

I used Autodesk Sketchbook for all drawing, layering and text.

Finding Who? – Design Assignment Bank – Week 5

Movie_Mashup

This week’s mashup assignment was to take elements from multiple movie posters and mash them up into one. Change anything – the caption, the title, the main image, etc. Also, make it seem like it could be a real movie.

Each year, there is one week that I dread more than any other – Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. My sister is a major fan of sharks. I know that I will not see my sister for a week, and she will post about it on Facebook and talk about it for well over a week. I would rather be watching a Disney movie. As you can imagine, we have a hard time deciding on a movie that both of us approve. For this assignment, I chose to merge elements of the movie posters for Jaws and Finding Dory.

My chosen story theme is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). This movie poster mashup features two distinct MBTI types, the ENTJ great white shark, and the ESFP Dory. I thought this would make for an interesting dichotomy.

The Great White Shark (ENTJ)

  • Strategic
  • Assertive
  • Confident
  • Analytical
  • Efficient
  • Curious
  • Thick-skinned
  • Leader
  • Goal-oriented
  • Impersonal
  • Intellectual
  • Ambitious
  • Decisive

Dory (ESFP)

  • Sociable
  • Cooperative
  • Creative
  • Excitable
  • Spontaneous
  • Adventurous
  • Harmonious
  • Fun-loving
  • Talkative
  • Lively
  • Sensitive
  • Friendly
  • Carefree

I created this mashup in PowerPoint. I used the Jaws poster as my background. I removed the background from the Finding Dory movie title using lunapic.com. I found an image of Dory with a transparent background, no lunapic needed. I created a box the same color as the cream background and covered the Jaws title. I added all of the elements to the original Jaws background poster and took a screen shot. A quick upload to Flickr.com and I was done.

I had a lot of fun creating this poster. I think my sister would enjoy this movie more than I would. I would root for Dory. My sister would root for Jaws.

Bold Strategy Cotton

For my “Mashup Those Movies” assignment I chose to put Jason Bateman on the cover of “The 40 Year-Old Virgin”.  I added one of my favorite lines from “Dodgeball” as well.  I edited this image using GIMP by cutting out the face with the lasso tool, then scaling and pasting it onto the poster.

I used these original pictures.

I Might Lose Friends Over This

There you have it. A mashed up movie poster for the prequel to the 2011 smash hit “Magic Mike.”  I used different elements from Patrick Swayze’s (R.I.P.) career to compose this new, very different piece of …art? The hardest part of this image was working with the spotlight clip art and inserting it into a plain Roadhouse movie poster. I can’t wait until someone stumbles across this and wonders why in the hell would anything like this exist. Answer=DS106.

I. Am. The. Law.

Welcome to another post of epic mashup! This time we will be taking a chance with the Mashup Those Movies assignment. “Take elements from multiple movie posters and mash them up into one. You can change anything- the caption, the title, the main image, etc. Lastly, make it seem like it could be a real movie.”At first I didn’t know what movies I wanted to mash. So I looked up movies from 2012 so that hopefully everyone that sees it will know the movies I used. It took me until August to have a light-bulb moment! As I was scrolling I found Lawless, a movie I saw earlier this year and was pretty bad-ass.

A who else would have a western-like movie (actually Spanish?) other than the man Will Ferrell himself? I present the 2nd movie I was going to mash (which was in March in case you were wondering), Casa De Mi Padre. I never saw this movie, but I will assume it was ridiculous on the basis of knowing Will Ferrell was the main character. So when you mix ridiculous and bad-ass…well bad-ass prevails obviously and this new movie will hopefully give Ferrell some badassery-credit! I present Lawless, featuring Will Ferrell. Why? Because Will Ferrell is the law.

Movie Mashup

Mashup Those Movies

I realized after doing this Mashup that I already had 7 stars. But, why not publish it. So here it is. I mashed up two movie posters. They are both robot movies but completely different. WallE is more of a love story about two cute little robots. I robot is a story of robots taking over the world. So, actually they are completely opposite because WallE is trying to save the world!

walleIrobot

What is going on!? Walle is a good robot who loves others and is trying to help save the world. How could his kind be so evil!? New robots are taking over his world. They are evil and coming to turn his sweet little story upside down.
