Laugh Track Beetlejuice!

For my last regular mashup assignment of the week I decided to tackle the Inappropriate Laughter assignment. For this assignment I relied heavily on iMovie, FreeSound.org, and Movie Clips.

First, I had to choose a movie clip. I went with Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, a film first released in 1988. It’s not really a horror movie, but more on the creepy comical side (my favorite scene is the Day-o dinner scene).

After choosing the clip, I went to FreeSound.org to find laughing sounds. I realized listening to different laughs over and over can get a little annoying after a while ?. I also added an “uh-oh” sound in clip.

After gathering all the materials I embedded everything into iMovie to put it all together. I had to adjust some of the noise levels on the audio clips, as I didn’t want the laughter to overpower the actual dialogue.

Lastly, I uploaded the finished product to Vimeo.

Week 12: Mashups and Remixes

Remix It: Put a ‘stache on it.”
Song: Tequila by The Champs
I had to create myself in the animoji app and then I found the facial hair section and chose the classic mustache. Its basically Christmas now so I had to put the Santa hat on.
Remix It: Cancer Sucks
Rambo First Blood Poster turned into Cancer Awareness Poster! He’s coming!
Im a big fan of Sylvester Stallone movies especially the Rambo series. I thought the quote under the red bold STALLONE fit well with people battling cancer. It’s a sad but true statement about what people with cancer go through. I made this poster in Canva which made it very easy.
Favorite Movie Clip
After their plane crashes in Alaska, six oil workers are led by a skilled huntsman to survival, but a pack of merciless wolves haunts their every step (IMDB). Im a big Liam Neeson fan because of his high action movie roles. The last seen on the video I find very powerful and moving, the way Liam Neeson acts in it blew my mind the first time I watched this movie. The clips were cut up in iMovie.
The Contest Nobody Could Win (Video-Mashup Edition)
In the past couple of years these shows and movies have become some of my favorite to watch on repeat. I did the same thing I do with all my video clips, I download them off youtube and then cut them up in iMovie, in this case it was 2 second clips.
Inappropriate Laughter
The Avenger Endgame movie had a lot of hype this year and I believe it delivered. The final battle is a very serious moment and every marvel comic fan knows what will happen to a mortal who snaps their fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, so this cartoon laugh is very inappropriate for this final scene. This was also cut up in iMovie and the cartoon laughter was downloaded off freesounds.org

The Evil Dead: The Sitcom

For my last assignment this week I chose this one for my last 3.5 stars. The assignment here was to transform a movie clip by applying an inappropriate laugh track to the clip.

I really love this assignment because I’m always the one who finds inappropriate scenes in movies funny, whether they be serious or scary, for some inexplicable reason. So, I’m always that person laughing at inappropriate times in a movie, which is why I thought this assignment would be fun for me. For this I decided I wanted to chose a horror movie to add an inappropriate laugh track to since I thought that would transform the meaning of it most drastically. Then, I thought of the Evil Dead, which is a ‘serious’ horror movie that often has me and my friends laughing so much when we watch it, simply due to its strangeness and interesting acting choices. So, I thought the movie would be perfect! I wanted to insert as many laughs as I could after picking a scene of the movie from YouTube and I hope I didn’t end up adding too many (there can never be too many, right?). I think the final product turned out pretty good!

Rather than briefly describing my process of creating the video, I instead chose to make a tutorial for this assignment for that requirement this week, so please go check that out here!

Inappropriate Laughter

For my third assignment, I did the “Inappropriate Laughter” assignment. I had to find a dramatic scene, and the saddest movie scene I could think of was from “My Girl”.  I was able to find the “He can’t see without his glasses” scene on youtube, and I found a good laughter sound effect on Freesound.org.

I went through the video, and added in the sound effect at opportune times.

The assignment description tasks you with changing the meaning of the clip with laughter, but honestly this scene is so sad that my final result is just eerily disturbing.

Inappropriate Laughter

I got this clip from Skyfall and I couldn’t think of a better clip to mashup with an inappropriate laughter sequence. So first I had to download this clip as an mp4 and I left it on my desktop so I could just drag it straight into iMovie.  From there I just edited the clip to be a little shorter and added in the audio to the parts I thought it would work the best.  I had to do a little bit of editing to the audio as well but that wasn’t too difficult to do either!  I think my previous experience with iMovie might have made this the quickest video/audio mashup I’ve ever done.  Can’t complain about that!

Saint Vincent Stand Up Comedy

Original Assignment

I attempted to make this scene from Saint Vincent funny but it was pretty difficult to do. It’s a sad movie and no amount of laughs really made it much less sad. Just found a laugh track on youtube and converted it to an mp3 and then I mashed everything up in Windows Movie Maker.

Metal Gear Solid (w/ Laugh Track)!

For this assignment, labeled Inappropriate Laughter, I downloaded a cutscene from Metal Gear Solid and decided to add some laughter to it. I watched/listened to the entire video more than a couple of times and tried to find the best moments to fit in the laughter. I’d like to believe I did a good job. I downloaded the YouTube video using a third party web application and then inserted it into Windows Movie Maker (WMM). After that, I found an audio clip of a laugh track on YouTube (freesound only had children’s laughs and coffee shop sounds), and inserted that as well. I copy/pasted the track at the appropriate times and had fun with it.

This assignment was worth 2.5 stars.

Life Lesson: Mute Often – AB Mashup

I could do this all day! In this assignment, the mashup combines a serious movie scene with inappropriate laughter. The idea is to change the mood of the scene. At first, I was daunted by figuring out what movie scene to select. I had recently watched a movie with Haley Joel Osment (the young actor who so brilliantly played the role of Cole Sear in The Sixth Sense) which must have planted the idea of this scene in my head. The film focuses on a boy who communicates with spirits that don’t realize they are dead. In this scene, Cole admits to seeing dead people to Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis).  For me, it was one of the most intense moments in the movie, and a perfect scenario for inappropriate laughter.

To produce the mashup, I downloaded the scene from Youtube and found a sound clip from Audiojungle. Initially, I maintained the original drama of the scene by opening with part of the intact version of the confession. After Cole says, “I see dead people,” I added Dr. Crowe’s response without audio. I wanted to create the moment after someone says something ridiculous and everything stops. Then, a slow laughter begins to swell.  As the laughter grows, Cole feels utterly stupid and regrets ever opening his mouth. The original clip begins with this same shot. However, in that particular moment Cole attempts to gather his courage to reveal his secret. It worked perfectly to show both emotional instances.

Inappropriate Laughter Mashup Assignment

Mashup a scene from your favor serious movie with a laugh track. You can find some appropriate laugh tracks on freesounds.org. Download a clip of the scene, and compile the laughter track within the audio, keeping in mind that you are trying to change the meaning or the scene by introducing laughter. What is the story now?
