Inappropriate Laughter In Baltimore City

For my final assignment of the week I decided to complete the mashup assignment Inappropriate Laughter. I used the scene from season 4 when Colvin takes Namond and 2 others to the Ruth’s Chris Steak House. It is an interesting scene from start to finish. In the beginning the kids are all excited to go out and try to act the way they should. Then they realize how much they are out of their comfort zone and go back to their old ways by the time they leave the restaurant. Using youtube to get the scene and the laughing sounds I obtained the stuff I needed to create the movie. Then using windows live movie make I added some laughter to the areas I thought it would fit well to get my final product:

Star Wars w/ Inappropriate Laughter

This post is dedicated to my completion of the Mashup Assignment Inappropriate Laughter. The idea of this assignment is to take a serious scene from a movie or tv show, and add “inappropriate” or “untimely” laughter to it. To do this I had to do a few different things to accomplish this. First off, I needed to chose the scene I wanted to use. In the end, I landed upon a scene from Star Wars Episode I. The scene included the final fight between Darth Maul and Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson). I chose this scene because it is a very intense fight scene, and one of the most thrilling scenes in the entire movie.

To create this video, I used iMovie. I simply downloaded the scene from YouTube using ClipConverter, then I uploaded it into iMovie. from here, I simply had to add some transitions and cuts, so that the video was not incredibly long and dragged out. After this, I downloaded crowd laughing sounds from freesounds.org. I decided to download multiple clips, so that the audio did not appear to be the same every single time. From here, I simply needed to determine where I wanted to place the laughter. I determined these points by making it appear that the audience was laughing at Darth Maul. If you watch closely, almost every time that Darth Maul appears, making a face or gesture, the crowd laughs.

Finally, here’s my video:

Overall, I really liked the final product. I think it does a good job of completing the task, but I also think it does a good job as a remix alone. This assignment is worth a total of 3 stars out of 5.

Giving me a total of 3 stars for the week with more to come shortly. Til next time everyone.

Chris Partlow….is it funny now?

The laugh track would remind me of how a psychopath would react to violence, changing the scene from a violent perception to a view from a psychotic mind.

Inappropriate Laughter: Miracle Speech

For my final mash-up assignment this week I did “Inappropriate Laughter” (3 stars). At first I didn’t know what movie to do because most of my favorite movies are comedies so they are funny anyway. Then I was going to do a serious scene from Remember the Titans. But then the Miracle speech popped up on the suggested videos on the side of YouTube and I knew I had to do it. I have heard the speech several times, mostly the child version because it is adorable. Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Anyway, I figured there were a few places in there where laughter could be added because of how much the coach in the movie pauses. Here is the original version of the video that I used, found here:

And then my video can be found at this link: Miracle w laughing

How I did it:

First, I used Free YouTube Downloader to download the YouTube video onto my computer. Then I went onto freesound.org and found two different laughing tracks from here and here. I then opened Windows Live Movie Maker and clicked Add Videos and Photos and imported the video into movie maker. I set the start point and end point to the parts I wanted them at. Then I found the first spot I wanted laughter to be and hit Add Music>Add at the Current Point and faded it in fast and out slow and turned the volume down some. I did that at all of the other points where I wanted laughter. Some of the pauses were longer so I used the longer clip. Some of them were shorter so I used the shorter clip. I faded them all in and out and turned them down so they sounded natural. Then I exported it “For Computer.” I think it turned out pretty well.

Inappropriate Laughter

For this assignment (3.5 stars), I used a scene from season 4 where Omar is taking a trip to the store to buy Cheerios (and some drugs). I used Windows Live Movie Maker to create this video.

Here are the 4 laughter clips I used from freesound.org

By adding these sounds I created a comedic effect to the scene. Here is my final video!

The Wire with a laugh track

An excellent example of adding the “Married with Children” laugh track to an episode from Season 4 of The Wire. To be clear, I am not the creator of this video, Ithe person who uploaded it has the username linguica.

Inappropriate Laughter

For my second assignment for the two weeks (and my assignment that involves The Wire), I did the Inappropriate Laughter assignment (worth 3 stars). I used this clip from youtube of Stringer’s death in The Wire and this laugh track from freesound.org. I then used iMovie to put the laugh track in the most inappropriate moments in the scene. I decided to use this scene because when you think of awful and powerful scenes in The Wire, this is definitely in the top five.

“Right into the wall!”

I did the mashup assignment for inappropriate laughter and had some fun with it. I had just watched episode 7 of the Wire and thought this fight scene would definitely be inappropriate to add laughter to, so I had to use it. It was easy to download the video and I found some laughter tracks online. The first I used from the Office found on YouTube because it fits perfectly with the wall incident. I had some trouble with Mac’s updated iMovie so I struggled to put the video and sound together, but I worked it out in the end and I think it turned out pretty well.

My Very own Assignment 2: Electric Boogaloo

Oh boy, I created another one!  I’ve seen a few examples of this on the internet now, which kind of sucks because I thought I was being original when I came up with it.  I guess it’s true what they say, everything good has already been created (note: not what I actually believe).  Anyways, I created the “Inappropriate Laughter” assignment under mashups.  It’s important to inject laughter into everything we do, no matter how inappropriate it may be!

I started off by finding a few laugh track clips on freesounds.org.  Then it was off to decide on which clip to use.  I wanted something that could still be seen as funny in the right circumstances.  What better scene than in Pulp Fiction right after Jules and Vincent take Marvin in their car for a ride!  Very minor spoilers ahead in the video, so beware.

I started by converting the file to an AVI format from MP4 using MPEG Streamclip.  Then it was just a matter of matching up and trimming the audio clips and aligning them in appropriate (inappropriate?) moments in the scene.

In the future, I would recommend using multiple laugh tracks.  I only used one throughout the whole assignment and although it creates a certain cheesiness to the assignment, it would still be better with multiple tracks.

Inappropriate Laughter

Mashup a scene from your favor serious movie with a laugh track. You can find some appropriate laugh tracks on freesounds.org. Download a clip of the scene, and compile the laughter track within the audio, keeping in mind that you are trying to change the meaning or the scene by introducing laughter. What is the story now?
