Eye See the HCC Tutorial

To create this reflection in my friend Morgan’s eye I followed the steps listed below in this post.

I imported the photograph I took of Morgan’s eye into Canva.com.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.43.01 PM

I then went to the Elements Menu and searched for a circle.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.43.18 PM

I chose a circle that allows you to insert a photograph to make it circular.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.43.26 PM

I uploaded a photograph I took of the HCC into Canva and then I inserted the photograph of the HCC into the circle.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.43.33 PM

I then adjusted the size of the circle to cover the majority of the eye.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.44.39 PM

I then turned down the transparency of the photograph of the HCC

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 12.45.18 PM

After I saved the image I realized that the edge of the HCC circle was to distinct in the photograph.

Untitled design

So I uploaded the Photograph into Photoshop.

Screen Shot 2016-05-22 at 1.02.34 PM

In Photoshop I used the spot healing brush to soften the edge of the HCC circle. By clicking where I wanted the image to blend better.

I saved the photograph to my desktop and then uploaded it to Flickr. prior to embedding it in this post.

For how little I know about editing photographs I think I did a fairly good job at showing what Morgan sees through her eyes on what is pretty much a daily basis.  It was super easy and if you have any questions about how I did it feel free to ask!

Send a message back in time

These are the steps I took to make the video “letter” to my sixteen year old self.

I first used Photo Booth on my iMac to record my video. In Photo Booth I used the comic book filter (that’s my favorite). I then opened up iMovie to begin editing.

I began by selecting the background that I wanted for my title and credits screen. As you’ll see I later changed my mind. To select this I clicked the maps & backgrounds option on the left hand side. I then selected how I wanted my title by choosing one from the title option. To insert these into my actual movie all I had to do was drag what I wanted to the bottom portion of the screen. You can extend or decrease the length of the tittle and credits by dragging them left to right. From there I imported the video I made in Photo Booth.

I then chose to change the filter on the video by using the options at the top of the video photo. I did this to enhance the photo quality. I also edited the font by selecting from the options that appeared above the text box.

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 8.17.49 PM

I then inserted my transitioning slide by dragging down the one I wanted in between the tittle background and my actual video. Here is where I decided to change my initial background. I figured this one flowed more with the video. After doing all of that I inserted some music to the background from the iTunes option on the left. I chose two songs since my video was a little long. I then inserted another transition slide and began working on my credits. Again I had to insert a background and tittle from the options on the left.  To slow my credits down I extended the length of the background.

Screen Shot 2016-06-12 at 8.48.58 PM

Once your credits are all done, play the video and make sure you like the outcome. If you do go ahead and save it. Upload it to youtube in order to get a like to insert into your blog post.

How to make your own sign language video

I’ve used iMovie in the past, maybe about 4 years ago. When I opened the application it was as if I’ve never used it… I was completely lost. After a few hours of playing around with it I finally semi figured it out. Here’s how I did it… Hopefully this helps and saved you time on your own sign language video.

To begin I thought of what word I wanted to spell out. Once I had that down I headed on over to YouTube to find a corresponding background song. Lucky for me I already had a song in mind so it didn’t take long at all. I chose an instrumental to the song You’re Beautiful by James Blunt. I then went on youtube-mp3.org in order to convert the youtube video into an mp3. Once converted the song automatically saved to my iTunes.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.14.44 PM Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.15.13 PM

I then went on to google an image of the sign language alphabet. From there I opened up the Photo Booth application on my mac in order to record my video. I selected the comic book effect because I wanted something that wasn’t boring. I then went on to record and save my video.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 6.48.31 PM Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 6.47.48 PM

After my video was all done in Photo Booth I moved on to iMovie. Ok so here things can get slightly complicated so hopefully I can explain it well enough for you to remake. Once I opened up iMovie I selected the CREATE option. It then led me to a themes screen where you can select the theme you want. I chose to opt out of this… I figured working with a blank slate would be easier. From there I imported the video that I recorded on Photo Booth onto iMovie.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.17.25 PM

I then selected iTunes from content library on the left bottom side. That allowed me to selected the music I wanted from iTunes. Once I found the song, under the edit option I selected append to background music. As expected this put the song in the background of my video.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 7.18.27 PM

The next screenshot shows a couple of steps in one. All of the following steps are pretty much up to you. All based on what you want your video to look like. I will try my very best to explain…apologizing ahead of time. I started by selecting a background for my tittle. These can be found under the maps & rounds option under content library. Under title you can select how you want your tittle to appear. The slide showing the credits is the same method.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 10.32.56 PM Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 10.33.17 PM

To apply your selections into your video all you need to do is drag it down to the bottom half of the screen. From there you can drag left and right to lengthen or shorten it. After you’ve achieved your desired results select share and save it as a file.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 10.35.37 PM

After saving it go ahead and upload it to youtube. Publish it then copy the link to embed it into your post.
