One Archetype … 5 Movies! PARTYYYY

The next Video Assignment that I decided to complete for this week involved looking up 5 different movies that fit into one Archetype and lasts about 5 seconds. The archetype that I decided to do was “Party” …. I looked up 5 different movies that I knew had pretty intense “party scenes” in order to put them together in my 5 second video.

The first movie that I came to my mind when I thought of party movies was the movie “Project X” I cut a small clip of this scene that I found in order to stress the biggest party based scene in this entire movie. The second movie that I added was “Superbad” and the “Blood Brothers” scene because this was also another movie that initially came to mind that I knew would be easy to find a good party scene from. I felt like this clip added a different type of party scene then the first one and I knew that it would fit in really well. After I used too funny movies I knew that I needed a more relaxed scene from the movie in order to show variety in terms of the “party” archetype. The movie “Hangover” has a lot of scenes that represent parties, but I thought that the wedding scene would add a little humor… especially to those that have seen the entire movie as well. I then added a more high school based party scene by adding a more recent movie “21 Jump Street” to the mix and showing how fights can also be a party of the party scene to add on to the archetype. The last movie that I added to the mix was “Old School” because I figured I’d end my archetype with a little bit of Frank the Tank and his great beer bonging abilities. This is a bit of an older movie and I knew this would be the perfect conclusion for how a party really is now-a-days. I’ve seen all of these movies and when I began thinking of an archetype I figured this would be an easy one to target. After I found all of these scenes… I used www.keepvid.com to download them onto my computer and import them into a new project on iMovie. I then shortened the clips and added the song “Shots” by Lil Jon to give it a little bit of energy. After I finished this project I simply uploaded it onto my youtube account and there we go… all finished. I really enjoyed doing this video assignment simply because as I was looking at these scenes I really wanted to watch all the movies again. Through this clip (that should have been 5 seconds) I simply told the story of the varieties in the “party” archetype. I didn’t make it 5 seconds because I knew I couldn’t get anything out of it … so I made it a little longer, nearly 5 seconds for each scene .. just to get a better glimpse of my message. Here’s my video:

5 Second Film! 3*

When I saw this assignment I had to watch the videos on youtube with this tag, I was kind of confused. I watched a video of a dad and his daughter taking shots that made my boyfriend and I crack up. It was so funny. I figured I’d do something with my puppy because who doesn’t love puppies! I love him. :)

Come live at my house! 5*

Come live at my house! It’s roomy, comfy, and is always stocked with food…. Except this week because I’m the adult in the house. UMW decided to run a contest called “Live Here!” it asked students to make a video of their dorm to persuade other students to want to live there. There were some kind of prizes involved, plus… you’d gain awesome new friends. Since I don’t live on campus, I did my house… which is fantastic! Here, watch:

What is Jack Jack Thinking?! 2*

This assignment was to catch your pet in a contemplative mood and dub over with what you think he/she would be thinking/saying. My dog always has to pee or is super tired so I decided to incorporate that in. I tried to get him when he wasn’t barking but that’s a rare occurrence around our house, he’s always barking at something.

Room Raiders (Sterne Edition) 2*

For this assignment we were asked to raid the room of a willing person, my family is on a cruise so I just texted my brother and told him I was going to raid his room. He was dissapointed that he didn’t have time to add silly/incriminating things in there to make it humorous. The Camera Man is my wonderful boyfriend Bubba. We didn’t find anything incriminating, I was throughly saddened by this..

Ashley’s Cooking Show 3* (Should be more!)

For this assignment, we were asked to create a cooking show. It just so happened that my boyfriend and I had decided to make dinner together that night! We made Chicken with Peppers and Garlic Alfredo Sauce. We cook dinner together every night he stays… so every night. LOL

The ingredients for my dish are as follows;

You will need:
1 Pepper, your choice of color
1 small onion (optional) (did not use in video) (boyfriend doesn’t like onions)
1 Box of Penne Pasta
1 lb of Chicken
1 jar of Alfredo Sauce
1 Canister of Shakey Cheese (grated parmesan)

Here’s the video on how to make it!

When life gives you a banana…

This is video assignment 598, it is called “5 seconds of fame.” It is worth 2 stars. The description was:

“Make a five second film. Try to keep it funny! This assignment was inspired by 5secondfilms.com. I suggest you draw from your own life experiences of strange but funny moments.”

My roommate and I were just trying to make a silly video for our friend’s 21st birthday, and things got kind of strange. I didn’t intend to do this assignment but I felt like this video of our life was something I just had to share :) When I saw this assignment, I knew I had to do it!!!!

We were dancing around like goofballs and then somehow a banana came into the mix. We should have known that was a recipe for weirdness. I was wearing a scarf as a dress (I have no clue how I got talked into that one) and my roommate tried to stick the banana down my dress but it got stuck on the bottom instead, looking very inappropriate. But it was hilarious as it happened, we still crack up whenever we watch this video. I hope you enjoy it as well!

I edited the video down quite a bit. It is a little longer than 5 seconds but so was the example, I hope that is okay (I think it will be worth it). After I had the portion I wanted, I added a title slide and a credits slide. This assignment was pretty simple to complete especially because it just happened naturally.

Thanks for watching! :)

The Pregnancy Pact.

This assignment is called, “Do the Hitch Cut”. It is worth 4 stars and is video assignment 732. The description was:

“Alfred Hitchcock, the legendary master of suspense, shares a brief 90-second lesson on how a simple change in a three-shot edit can result in evoking a completely different response from the viewing audience. Can you do the Hitch Cut? Make two versions of a short three-shot video — in each instance maintaining the first and third shots, but changing out the second shot in each. Can you get a completely different result from your viewer? “

After watching “Hitchcock loves bikinis” I really wanted to try it out! I was incredibly excited when I saw that it was an assignment option! Now I just had to brainstorm on how to do it…

After brainstorming, I decided to use  “The Pregnancy Pact” to create my “hitch cut.” In the movie, a group of teenage  girls (I believe they were all 15)  make a pact to all get pregnant. It is a Lifetime movie based on a true story. I decided to try and make my video an awareness video as well because teen pregnancy really has become an issue and it is not as glamorous as the movies make it seem.

After finding the original clip, I cut out the clip that I wanted to use as well as the piece I was going to replace the old clip with. I made two copies of the original clip and then cut the middle out of one and replaced it with another clip. She went from being sad that she was not  pregnant to sad that she was pregnant. At the end I added, “Teen pregnancy is 100% preventable” I use to watch “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and the characters always said that during commercial breaks. I hope you like my video, THANKS! :)

Surf movie

A movie trailer

This was by far my favorite assignment i created! The assignment itself was to make a movie trailer for something you would want everyone to get excited about. Of course i took this opportunity to make a surf film!

I texted my friend Jessy and asked for any footage she had of us this past summer. We spend a lot of time in the water surfing together. But, we very seldom do we have someone take pictures or movies… The life of girl surfers -_-. haha Jessy and I always joke that our moms are our sponsors. They feed us and every now and then come watch us surf. So, that’s as good as we’ve got sponsor wise. :) Long story short, we don’t have a ton of shots from our surf sessions.

But, she helped me find what we did have. And i went to work to create our first film. I used a actual theme from imovie to create this cool movie trailer.

The project in Imovie actually guided me through the makings of this movie trailer. I plugged in the things i wanted the film to say. I added our names to the credits. Then, I started searching through pictures and videos from our surf trip to Wrightsville and random days in Vabeach.

I had a problem with adding the pictures as .mpeg files to the film. So, i created a new project for each photo and saved it as a video. Then, i uploaded the video to imovie and added it into my trailer

I didn’t like the music placed on the trailer so i saved the project. Then, opened it back up in Imovie as a film. Starting a new project, i dragged the film to the project and added my own music.

The waves may be the smallest ever seen in a surf film . However, I am pretty proud of this film!

Remember ScoobyDoo

Super Cut it!

This assignment was to find a phrase or themes overused in a specific movie or tv show.

The hardest part of these assignments for me is thinking of what movie to use. So, i racked my brain for something. I don’t watch too much tv these days. But, I did in my childhood. I used to love ScoobyDoo. But, at the same time it always scared me.

So I used ScoobyDoo for this assignment and focused on my favorite characters. Scooby and Shaggy! As i searched youtube and watched old episodes i payed attention to stuff they said over and over. At first I wanted to use “ZOINKS”. Which is a made up phrase i guess. But, Shaggy says it all the time.

However, After a while I realized I would not have enough shots for that. Then, it hit me. In every episode there is ALWAYS a scream scene. Some monster pops out from somewhere and everyone makes a ridiculous face as they scream.

I selected several clips from YouTube and used “PwnYouTube” which i’ve previous downloaded into my bookmarks. This tool allowed my to download each as a MP4.

Once all the clips were on my computer I started to clip and cut the scenes. Many of the clips had several scream scenes in them. So, I opened them up one by one in MPEG. Here, I was able to use the “input”/ “output” process to clip the scene.

After going through this process with each clip several times, I had myself a good amount of screaming people from scooby Doo. I  collaborated them in MPEG then exported the file into my Imovie. In imovie, I added music and a title/end slide.

And uploaded the finished product to Youtube:
