Phew! This photoblitz was stressful.
When I started:
Take a photo of two things that do not belong together:
Take a photo of an interesting shadow:
Take a photo dominated by a single color:
Make an ordinary object look more interesting, almost supernatural:
Make a photo that is abstract, that would make someone ask, “Is that a photograph?”:
Time I ended:
This was kind of stressful. I chose to do this in my dorm room because I could run around without people judging and staring at me holding my dinky dumbphone (opposite of the smartphone, of course) taking pictures. Also, I would have resources to use. It was fun though, running around my room, throwing things on the floor to use in the pictures. The easiest photo was the single color one because I have way too much make up and I could just throw my pink stuff on the table with some post its. Plus I feel like this was the best one.
Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
So mine doesn’t have many pictures because I feel like my camera really stinks. Or maybe I’m just a bad photographer. Either or.
How did I do this you may ask? I made my set on flickr like this tutorial told me. Then I scuttled over to my best friend, Mr. Google, and typed in “how do you post a flickr set to a wordpress blog” Voila! This site popped up!
The reason I choose these pictures is because I feel like they “fit” the prompt for them the best. Plus they’re the clearest ones my dumbphone/Macbook could take.
I didn’t realize I told a story with them but I do. I’m apparently a make up wearin’, hairbrushin’ angry feminist.
Whatever. It is what I am.
I suppose I actually meant to give this idea off, subconsciously.
Daily Create #1:
Prompt:
“Love See No Color.” Make a short video expressing that idea.
Work:
Oh lord this is embarrassing. I didn’t prewatch it before I uploaded it so bear with me.
Daily Create #2:
Prompt:
“Bald is beautiful. Photograph the egghead in your life!”
Work:
I knowww we aren’t supposed to use pictures from before this class and such, but my egghead is at home. He is my head, sitting on the right in this picture, obviously. This picture was taken in the Bahamas on a cruise. The woman on the left is my mother.
Daily Create #3:
Prompt:
Draw an abstract picture of your favorite animal.
Work:
This is a lovely abstract corgi. Its stubby legs are in one place, its stub of a tail is somewhere else and so is its little head with huge bat ears.

I have learned so much about visuals. I may not have improved as a photographer, but I’ve improved as a storyteller. I feel like I’ve learned that there is more than just slapping a link on a blog and being done with it. I’ve learned so much about Gimp as a photo editing tool through Google and experimenting around. To me, telling a story visually is about how you tell the world what you want to say without words and just a picture. Your picture needs to convey words without needing a description following it and explaining it.
This visual assignment was about turning a normal picture into something extraordinary. When I first read this, I knew exactly what picture I could use. My roommate from last year edited this picture of us when we went to the river together last spring. She gave me a cowboy hat and a mustache and gave herself a black hat and gotee. I called her to ask for permission to use this picture, but as I was talking to her, I decided I kind of wanted to try my hand at it. So she gave me the website she used to edit the picture, called Be Funky, and I used another picture instead!
My friend Mitchell posted this picture of him, his brother, and I on Instagram a few weeks ago as a throwback picture. It’s a picture of all of us at the beach a long time ago, when I was probably 4 or 5 years old. It’s such a cute picture! So he posted it on Facebook for me so I could have it too and I decided to use this picture for my assignment! So I used the Be Funky website, clicked on Effects, and chose one of the options given for the Pop Art effect. I really like how different this has made the photo and how it has made it even more playful than it already was! Loved it! Hope you guys do too!

I personally think photo touch ups are fun to do, but aren’t needed in the media such as magazines. However, this assignment sounded fun to do.
In high school, I took a “photography” (read: photoshop) class so I thought I was game. Wrong. That was years ago. So I googled and it this popped up and was helpful with doing my hair, lips and eyes. I made myself a red hair by messing with the saturation of my hair, did the same with my eyes and lips.
In my opinion, I look fake, most likely because I stink at outlining the area to fix.
This assignment was to take a photo and turn into black and white, but keep the original color for one single object. I kinda knew how to do this just from fiddling around before with the photo editing software, Picasa, that I like to use for all of my pictures. But I couldn’t remember how to use it. So I just clicked the Help button and figured it out from there.
I used the Focal B&W effect to edit this photo. It enabled me to turn the picture black and white while keeping a circular area the original color. So I was just flicking through some of my favorite pictures from high school, and decided to use this picture and highlight the blue balloon. And the title of this blog post is from one of my favorite songs, “Black Balloon” by the Goo Goo Dolls just because the blue balloon made me think of it!
This is a picture from my senior year from my outdoor track team’s end of season banquet. I love this picture because it has some of my best friends in it and we all look so happy!
SO for my final Visual Assignment for the week I decided to do an assignment called Create a New You! (: by Tiffany. This one was fun because I messed around on Photoshop to make myself looked wicked tan.. aka orange! (: “Take an existing photo of yourself, and edit in a way to give the picture a different look. Color your hair, change your eyes, whiten your teeth, get a “tan”, etc.” It was worth two stars!
I won’t lie, since my name is Amber, I’ve been known to run around Bath and Body Works chasing my friends with bottles of “Sensual Amber”, telling them to smell how nice I smell. No shame.
Naturally, I already own… several… bottles of the stuff in various formulas (body lotion, sprays, body wash, etc.) The object of this assignment was to find your name on something in the world. This was again two stars.
So for this I took the spray bottle with the words “sensual amber” on it and stuck a pink Post It behind it so you could read it. I took a picture of it, emailed it to myself, and took it to my friend Gimp. I messed with the satruation so it would stand out a little more and here it is. I regret not using the lotion bottle that is easier to read but live and you learn I suppose.
Fixed up and messed with:

I kinda procrastinated on this one, so I took my plaid scarf off that I wore that day and balled it up and took a picture of it with my dumb phone. There honestly is no inspiration to this one but “get it dooone!” Again, this one was two stars.
Anywho, after I emailed the picture to myself I opened up my buddy Gimp. Then I pretty much closed my eyes and slide the color balance things around and hoped for the best. I kinda like it. The white and the saturation is a little too much though. Oh wellll. I kinda like it.
Yes, internet memes. The bottom rung of the comedy ladder. Nevertheless, for 2 stars, I’ll gladly suck it up and make a simple one for you all to see. This… actually wasn’t that simple. I had a hard time trying to get the outline around the text in gimp right. I used this tutorial which taught me how to do it. Of course, I went through about 3 or 4 different tutorials before I found a decent one. And still the quality of my image came out kind of poor. I expect I’ll still get better in the future.
Anyways, here’s the meme. It’s an older one that never fails to crack me up. If you’re bored just try saying it out loud.
9/10 Stars down. 1 to go.
Warhol Something, by Annie Grotophorst was a fun and interesting assignment. “Andy Warhol was an iconic pop art mastermind. Now you can be one too! Take a photograph, or use an existing one, and create a piece of pop art. You can use something ordinary, like Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup can, or do a portrait, like Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe.” I chose to use a photo from my senior prom to hue. I just uploaded my picture to photoshop and messed up with the hue settings and sketch settings to make it more effective and this is what I ended up with (:
