The goal for this assignment was to take the media we posted in the ds106 phonar as rough drafts that weren’t good enough to be the final pieces of assignments.  I expected there to be a lot of pictures, which there was, but the small number of other media made it hard to create a story with 2 media types.  I ended up using 7 pictures and 2 audio pieces.  I created Tom’s first beach trip using pictures that I found, and two audio pieces to help flesh out the car accident they came across.  All in all I thought this was a pretty clever and interesting assignment idea and I thought mine turned out pretty well

In the Actor Transformation assignment, we were asked to compile clips from movies of a specific actor to show how they changed through the years. I chose Lindsay Lohan because she has one of the most roller coaster lifestyles in the business, so I figured it would be interesting to see how she had changed. As she is continuing to write her life story, I am an advocate for people to turn their lives around to live a rewarding life. Because of this, I decided to add some commentary about hoping she could turn from a life of DUIs and drugs, and continue to live life in the clear. As many kids in the new generation have already turned to drugs, hopefully a comeback story like the one I’m hoping for can inspire kids not to give up on their lives even if they made bad decisions in their past.
I used Wikipedia to have a sort of timeline towards her movies, and simply searched YouTube for Lindsay Lohan clips. I have finally become accustom to downloading movies using “PwnYoutube.” The simplest thing I have found out is that you can just type “pwn” after the “www.” and before the “youtube.com” to instantly download the URL to PwnYoutube. After I had the clips I wanted, I used Windows Movie Maker, and the resulting product was as much as I could hope for after trimming clips and ordering and reordering them. I show clips chronologically from her early career before all of her legal trouble, and then I used a clip from her court scene to represent her unraveling. I then showed a few clips about the movie Machete to show the types of movies she was doing as she was going through her drug and legal problems. Then I use the Matt Lauer clip as a break to show that she had been through rehab as she continues to try and build her career back to a higher esteem. The final thing I did was to split the Jay Leno interview to begin and end the clip. At first I had that at the end, because it fit chronologically as one of her last interviews that showed her as a kid in commercials, and then a clip from her up and coming movie about Elizabeth Taylor. I decided that I could unify the whole video by having the same interview sandwich everything else, and it also worked better chronologically when referring to her career throughout the years. A mash-up of movies, for this assignment we were to take 2 movie trailers and use the audio from one and the video from another to create a new a different story or feel.

For this assignment I took two movies which I look forward to seeing, The Great Gatsby and The Collection. It was actually quite a simple process, these two trailers where particularly well suited for each other because both started with a sort of club type party intro which now go horribly wrong as the Great Gatsby has killed his party goer and takes a girl hostage to be his love slave. as one man who has escaped Gatsby’s clutches goes in search of Mr. Gatsby to get her back.

I actaully did this assignment twice with the same trailers but switching which was video and which was audio, The Collection video one kept the same dark feel to it which was unacceptable which is why I decided to do the other orientation. Diffidently gave The Great Gatsby, which is Romance movie, a much darker and twisted interpretation.

Recycling is a wonderful thing, why let those unused clips and pics rot in a media land fill when we can rework and reuse them? For this assignment we took a look in the recycling bin and made a video story using those items.

Winter Is Coming is a short story created from recycled material which tells a story of a summer vacation hot spot which dies when winter comes. The line was taken from The Game of Thrones, which to them is a very scary thing since who knows how long winter will last. I got a little better with Premier, figured out transitions and how to make it black and white.

I have to say, I was disappointed by the lack of audio choices.  I really thought there’d be a wider selection of media, so I was kind of shoehorned into make a kind of sound story along with my pictures.  I took a few sounds from freesounds.org, but the wind swishing was from the recycled media.

Our story begins with our “hero” walking down a path into the woods where he encounters many different bushes.  A leaf falls, and he stand briefly to stare at it and contemplate life.  From there he runs into a rambunctious cat.  Once he emerges from the woods he witnesses a car accident and quickly ran to get help.

I threw all of my images and sounds into windows movie maker and editted it from there with a few transitions.  This was kind of a complicated assignment.  I was glad that there were so many nature pictures because that ended up going with my narrative.
