What Did I Do Today?

Archives

For this assignment, I had to create a 6 second video of something I did today. The assignment says to use the “Vine” app but since Vine no longer exists, I used Snapchat instead! Still 6 seconds, just a different app so basically the same thing. Unfortunately, nothing I did today was all that interesting. At least not that I could take a video of anyways. I took some fun claims today and graduated my training program at work but I’m not allowed to use my phone in work areas so I couldn’t use any of those things ? Anyways, I ended up settling on taking a video of doing an assignment for this class! Not at all interesting but it does show how I generally get homework done so I guess it at least offers some insight into my life? After recording the video, I saved it to my phone and then uploaded it to my YouTube channel in order to share it with you guys. Here it is!

What Did You Do Today?

“I know you probably have a smart phone so take advantage of your apps! There’s a new(ish) app out there called Vine, it’s super cool and I love watching super cool Vines (not super crappy ones!) Show DS106 what you did today! Show us what you ate for lunch, show us what you did when you woke up, show us what you did while you were making another DS106 assignment (hey 2 birds one stone!) get creative! It’s only a 6 second video!” – 3 stars

This was my last assignment for weeks 11 and 12, and since I already met the 16 star requirement, I decided to do another vine video worth fewer stars. This one wanted us to make a vine of what we did today, so that’s just what I did! I spent most of the day catching up/trying to get ahead of some classwork that’s due. I also played with my dog when I got tired of staring at my computer screen. I used videos I had taken earlier today on my phone to make the vine, and went through much of the same process that I talked about in my other Vine post, but I’ll detail it a bit here too.

I already have the app on my phone, so I just went in and hit the button to record a new vine. This time, instead of filming, I wanted to use videos I already had. I hit the option to import videos, selected the ones I wanted, and trimmed them to fit within the 6 second frame. I saved the video, hopped on my laptop, went to vine’s website, and copied the embed code. I know it’s a pretty boring vine, but I’ve had a rather boring day!

Y’all Got To Stop With These Damn Flowers

Damn it, Lawrence, you gotta lay off the flowers.

Victoire stared in wonder at the not one, but THREE bouquets of flowers that came to her door that afternoon.

“You gotta be kidding me!” she said, shaking her head, “This is ridiculous!”

The two of them had barely spent any time together (I mean it was what, three dates?) and the man was sending her these flowers. Victoire was overwhelmed. The last time anybody had gotten her flowers en masse like this was when she was dating her dead husband. She didn’t know how she felt about this.

So, she stared at them for awhile, then brought them downstairs and gave them to the lady at the desk who looked mopey that morning. She needed them for than Victoire did, that’s for damn sure.

The lady at the desk looked she was about to cry as Victoire handed the flowers over.

“Oh, Miss! You can’t be serious, these are for me?” She said, while eagerly reaching for the bouquets.

“Sure,” said Victoire, smiling a bit, “I have no need for them, and I have allergies so they really are a bother.”

That was a complete lie. But this girl didn’t have to know that. She looked so damn pleased with the second hand gift, Victoire almost felt sorry that she didn’t like the flowers more. But, as it were, she was still confused. Having the flowers around would only remind her of the charming man who wanted her affections. The worst part was Victoire kind of wanted to give them to him. Sex was one thing. Love? God, that’s a different ball game.

Vine it!

For another video assignment this week, I chose do to the Vine it! Assignment (3 stars). For this, I chose to vine myself making macaroni and cheese for dinner. I’ve been familiar with vine for awhile, but I deleted it off my old phone and didn’t bother re-downloading it, until this past week when I wanted to use it for class. Funnily enough, downloading it has been more detrimental to my work schedule than helpful since all I’ve been doing lately is watching funny/entertaining/talented vines. And there are a lot of those out there. While mine isn’t as impressive, it’s taken a while to become familiarized with the app again, and this dinner shot was the best I could do. Here it is:

Hope you enjoyed. I loved the sounds of the pasta going into the pot and the boiling water. And also it tasted delicious!

Vine of My Sunday! – (3 Stars)

When I saw this assignment, I knew I wanted to do this one. I was already very familiar with Vine and how it works, I had an account that I made last summer. So I used it and video taped, using my phone, what my Sunday morning to the afternoon looked like. After I completed the vine I took the video and sent a text message with the video in it to my email account. From there I was able to save the video to my computer. After that I uploaded to video to Windows Movie Maker and added a Title page and some background music, and then it was complete.

vine

It was pretty simple to create and a lot of fun to try and add so much into 6 seconds. I have not been on Vine in a long time and to be able use this assignment as an excuse to get back on it was a lot of fun. It was challenging to make sure everything turned out great with the vine. I had some trouble with my dog and trying to get him to run up the stairs it took me a few minutes to get him together.

The vine showed my Sunday morning, I had to drive around and run some errands for my family, then I was able to stop off for some food. Then I got back to the house and had to watch the dog. Then I finished the vine off with capturing my tasty lunch from McDonald’s.

Vine it!

Following suit of what I had stated for preparation for this assignment, I went ahead and started the Vine It! assignment that is worth 3 stars. It was a pretty fun and easy assignment, although Vine was a bit confusing to use at first because this is the first time I’ve ever had hands on use with it. Before, I would just see Vines all over the internet and it would just automatically play once I click the URL or post with a specific vine attached to it.

All I did was download the app on my iPhone from the app store, set up my account through twitter (though I synced the wrong twitter account to it and I don’t know how to undo it), and simply recorded what I thought was my best daily routine was each day (though I do not eat ramen everyday, which would be bad).

I also downloaded a plugin called “Vine Embed”, which allowed me to basically embed my vine video directly from Vine and onto my WordPress blog.

Vine it!

Vine it! for 3 stars

For starters, I only knew about the Vine application because of my boyfriend and his friends when they always watch these videos. So when I saw this was an assignment, I jumped at it because I wanted to see what all the talk was about it, and being able to create my own Vine was definitely interesting.

After downloading Vine to my phone, I started experimenting on how to create and edit videos within the application. After playing around with the videos and watching examples of videos on Vine, I thought to myself what day during the week would be good to create my video. I chose today, Friday 11/7 because I commute from Woodbridge down to UMW for class at 8 and stay until roughly 1 o’clock. Then I start my adventure home, just to run inside, change clothes and grab something to eat, then head straight into work (the pharmacy). After work, I get to come home and finally just get to relax and go to sleep.

I opened the app and clicked on the video camera in the top corner of it.

Start Video

After opening up the recording button, I held down on my phone’s screen to record myself and/or whatever I wanted to record and released my finger when I wanted that part to be stopped. I repeated this step without saving or exiting out of the application for each different clip I recorded until my 6 seconds was completed.

Record Video

Once the 6 seconds was reached, the video started rendering which took me to the preview/edit/save screen.

 Render Video

Save Video

When the preview/edit/save screen comes up, the video automatically started playing and I had the choice to edit, save or exit the preview screen which would take me back to the original recording screen. I then clicked save, because I was satisfied with how my vine came out and it saved directly to my phones gallery. After it saved, I went ahead and emailed it to myself and uploaded to Vimeo for ds106 to see!

Vined It..

For my first video assignment of the week, i went with an assignment i felt confident completing. What caught my eye was the “Vine It” assignment. I’m a serious lover of Vine. It’s so fun to create 6 second videos. What i really enjoy about Vining is the creativity of it all. Some people find it very difficult to create a video that’s only 6 seconds but people really get into it. Since i live on campus, my life is pretty dull. Most of my friends are a year older than me and they live on College Ave. So, after my classes, i usually just let myself in and hang out over there. Since this is something i do almost every day, i chose this for the “Vine It” assignment. I always have my laptop in my backpack so i usually surf Tumblr or DS106 while i’m over here. The vine was a little difficult to make because some parts were a lot shorter than others but watch it and see what i mean!

As you can tell by watching it, it’s really fast. So, i figured it would help if i talk about what i shot. I mean, i don’t want to leave you guys hanging! The first thing i filmed was walking through the door. Keep in mind that this isn’t my house. You can also see that i didn’t knock. I basically live here so there’s no need to. Since these poor college students have to pay for their own utilities, the house is almost always dark so i filmed myself turning on a lamp. Ha. I thought that was a little funny. Next shot was me taking off my sliders. It was really quick so i won’t be disappointed if you didn’t catch it. It’s no big deal. So above i mentioned that i always carry my laptop with me everywhere. I filmed myself opening/turning on my laptop because that’s usually what i end up doing when i come over. Lastly, you see Pandora. Now, i don’t care what anyone says, Pandora is great. I don’t mess with Spotify. That’s just crazy. So i filmed myself pressing play to a song on one of my stations. When do i not post about music related events in my life? Well, there you have it! My daily routine after my classes. You’ll rarely find me in my dorm ;)

Vine It!

This assignment was pretty easy. The hardest part was deciding what to take video of. All I did was download the app on my iPhone, set up an account, and record! I then uploaded it straight to twitter and embedded the tweet into this blog post!

Just Vine It!

I chose to do this assignment because I love the idea of Vine. I had an account until Instagram updated its system to have video creations like Vine. I wanted to capture a typical Monday for me when I don’t have any internships or homework. I go to work for ten hours, go home and try to relax if I can.

I created this six second video by downloading the Vine app into my iPhone 5s. I created an account. Then, I begin to create a video by clicking on the video camera icon on the top right in the third picture. Lastly, I begin recording segments by pressing on the screen.

As you record, the bar on the top will fill up with a green color. When your video is ready, it will allow you to proceed to the next page where you can choose to keep or discard the different segments you recorded. When you are satisfied with your video, it’s time to press the check mark with the green circle as shown in picture 3 below. You will be directed to the Share page. Pick a great title and connect to Twitter and Facebook. Wala! That’s how you create a vine.
