Chipmunk Style – video assignment 1 – “Freedom”

I’ve used iMovie for basic video editing but always struggled a bit with the file management and also the audio quality. I hope this assignment may help me get to grips with these things a bit better. It seems a straightforward task to get me started with video projects.

Sticking to my plan to focus on Scottish homecoming, after researching some possibilities of using poetry (Robert Burns) in particular which I knew the BBC had produced audio readings of – I felt that they were a bit long winded for this particular assignment but may use the idea in further assignment work. Then in a flash of brilliance (or “brulliance” – brull-eee-ence) I remembered the “Freedom”speech in Braveheart movie – perfect. Found the clip easily on You Tube and was reminded on hearing it how odd Mel Gibson’s accent was, certainly from a Scottish perspective. I was curious to see if chaining the pitch might improve it – although I realise this is not the objective of this assignment, it’s hard to watch the result without laughing out loud.

The process of creating it was pretty easy. Import the MP4 file into iMovie  > isolate the audio track > select the audio track > choose adjust > choose audio > change pitch up to 3

Chipmunk Style

Helium may be in short supply, but a little digital tweaking can still leave your favorite actors sounding like the Chipmunks. Take a clip from a film and either speed up the action or raise the pitch on the audio track for some high-pitched laughs.
