One of My Favorite People

When I saw that there was a 3-star assignment in which I could highlight one of my favorite people in my life, I knew I wanted to do this assignment. It took me about 2.5 seconds to decide that I would make a video about my mom.

So… who doesn’t love their mom? I for one, do!

Unfortunately, in June of 2009, I lost my mom after her two-month battle with cancer. I could write a book on how much I hate cancer. However, for the first twelve amazing, fun, hilarious, and adventurous years of my life, I had my amazing, fun, hilarious, and adventurous mom to walk along beside me. She was my everything. She taught me everything I know, seriously. One morning, I woke up and I wanted scrambled eggs for breakfast. She told me that it was time for me to learn how to cook them (even though, guys, my mom made the best scrambled eggs). I got a piece of paper out and wrote down the “recipe” so that I could make my own eggs. I don’t have this anymore but it was something like “1. Crack eggs in bowl 2. Whisk eggs 3. Pour milk in the eggs   4. Put butter in a pan and turn on medium heat 5. Pour eggs into pan 6. Stir the eggs around the pan until cooked.” As an only child, my mom babied me, and I loved it! She loved to pick out my outfits for the day until I was in second or third grade. She was always at every school play, festival, etc. Not only was she a fun person, she was protective, spiritual, and brave. She could do everything and anything she put her mind to. For one thing, she had me completely naturally. No epidural, no nothing. One thing that she always tried to get me to do was sports. I hate sports. She was the most athletic woman I knew. She signed me up for tennis, basketball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and horseback riding. As she may have expected (I don’t know, though), none of them stuck. I don’t even like going to the gym to run on an elliptical all that much to be honest. However, she always did things with my best interest in mind. She took care of everyone else first, before taking care of herself. She had to deal with me as a little girl who was a picky eater, stubborn, and the list goes on, she had to deal with our dog, Molly, who liked to eat everything in her path, and more! My dad was there to help too, however, my mom was who I spent most of my time with due to my dad’s work schedule!

Her contagious laugh and the love that she gave to everyone and everything, including her garden,  are just two of the hundreds of traits that she had. Nothing can ever come close to the bond I had and continue to have with mom, even though she isn’t physically here with me. I do now have a stepmother, whom I love very, very much. I feel as though my mom pulled some strings up in heaven to send her to my dad and me. She shares many similarities with my mom.

Lastly, anytime you hear the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” my mom is the first person I think about. I can tell you more about that later! ?

Taurean Christian Easter

For five stars worth of credit I completed an assignment that required me to make a video of someone special to me. I chose my oldest son Taurean as the feature for this project. I went through some photos I had digital copies of and used Windows Movie Maker to put them to some music. This project was definitely more time consuming than I had initially anticipated. I chose my son Taurean to feature in this project because he is the one person who made me “mom.” These days I feel as though him and I get less and less one on one time. His schedule fills up pretty quickly with football practices, football games, student leader meetings, etc. and my schedule is just as full with classes, an internship, and whatever appointments are necessary between my three kids. We connect the most in the car on the way to or from somewhere. We talk about the day, who “mossed” who at recess, and he will usually tell me a joke or “roast.” It was fun going through some old pictures of him as he has grown. It makes my heart ache a bit to realize he is only getting older and is becoming more like a young man, but he will always be my baby in my heart.

My Dad

The last assignment I did this week was making a video montage of a special person. It was worth 5 stars. I picked my dad. He has been my number one fan my whole life. My dad attended every dance recital, band concert, soccer game and so many other events. I am really lucky to have a dad like him. He has really shaped me into the person I am today.

I used iMovie to create this assignment. I uploaded pictures from my computer and used a Theme on iMovie to better organize my video. I then added music that I got from a youtube video that I used the fastest free Youtube Downloader to save the video as an mp3. The only problem I ran into was cutting the audio to fit the video, I thought I got it to work but after uploading it I realized it wasn’t cut right. After I finished, I uploaded the video to Youtube.  I really enjoyed doing this assignment!

My Best Friend Montage

For this assignment, I made a video montage of my Beagle, Jeter. I chose him because he has been my bestie for the last 9 years and he is really cute. Enjoy.

To do this assignment, I first had to hunt for a bunch of pictures and videos of Jeter. That didn’t take long because I have a lot. Next, I imported the videos and photos into iMovie, and decided on a theme. I chose the photo album theme because it was a collection of memories through photos.

Next, I sorted the pictures into a random order. I then chose transitions and put them between the pictures. Lastly, I chose to play “You Got a Friend in Me” in the background. I downloaded the song from YouTube and put it in as background music. This assignment was time consuming because of all of the little editing details, but it was a lot of fun!

I miss her!

Special Persons Montage: For this assignment you are to decide on who is special to you. It could be a relative, sibling, parent, friend, mentor, celebrity, or anyone. Then you are to make a video of images or video clips of them showing all the different things that they do that makes them special to you. Add music, animation, transition, anything to make the video. In your write-up be sure to explain why the person is special to you. (5 stars).

For this assignment, I created a video on me! I will be the special person, since Edna is missing me in the final project.

I thought this would be funny and cute to show her side and what misses about me.

I started to use iMovie, my always go to choice for movies, but of course, it started malfunctioning and wouldn’t let me make one.

So, I decided to use My Stupeflix  which is an online video creator.

For the song, I used “Better Together” by Jack Johnson. I thought this was a cute song because we are better together, and Edna is really missing me!!

I added all the pictures I wanted in the video.

Special Person Montage

The assignment, worth 5 stars, was to make a video of someone who is special to you doing things that you like about them. I made a montage of my roommate, Rachel. I chose her

1. Because I have more videos of her than anyone else

2.  Your bond with your roommate is something that nothing else can compare too

and 3. She’s the bomb.com.

I made the video using Flipagram. Flipagram allows you to select as many videos as you desire, crop them, add music, ect. It’s extremely easy to use. I did the whole video on my phone because that’s where all my videos were so it was just easier.

Most of the montage consists of Rachel dancing because it makes me laugh and it makes me happy and we love to dance around and be silly together. There’s videos of us jamming out at concerts because that’s where we spend our whole summer and that’s when we really got to know each other. The first video is of Rachel during exam week last year, which is when we really got close, buying a million chocolate bars and anyone who buys that many chocolate bars is a friends of mine. There’s videos of us watching football and videos that demonstrate how excited Rachel gets and then how sad she gets when her team loses. There’s a video of Rachel blowing bubbles in chocolate milk which represents just how childish we are together. Right after that is a video of when Rachel came and surprised me at my volleyball game. She’s always there to support me and cheer me on. The second to last video is of me scaring Rachel when she got home and it’s one of my favorite videos, because it shows how goofy we are together. Her parents love that video of us. I ended the video with her dancing through the window because it reminded me of the theme song from The Office. Most of the videos are just Rachel and I hanging out and being completely goofy around each other. I feel like I can be myself with her, which means were extremely goofy and out of control.

I chose the song Underage by Kelsea Ballerini, because I’m using this video as her birthday present. The song has a long of really meaningful lyrics that really describe us as individuals and friends.

Young,
All we ever think about is fun
All we ever wanna be is 21

Revolves around athletic boys and girls
Dressed up in their older sister’s clothes

Racing cars and breaking hearts
First taste of love and twist-off wine
Kissing strangers, daring danger
Burning bridges, crossing lines
You don’t think to take it slow
And you don’t know what you don’t know
The nights are young and our IDs are fake

My Special Person

One of the assignments in the Video assignment bank was to create a “Special Person Montage”.  This was a great assignment because I got to make a movie of my special person . . . my one and only grandbaby.  What’s a grandma to say ~ I had plenty of material to work with!  For this video I used photos and video clips and arranged them by his age.  It was a wonderful and emotional day when he was born.  Our Patrick Adam.  I can’t tell you what it is when he comes in the door and yells, “Grandma” and runs to me.  It doesn’t get any better then that.  Patrick is only three years old, but he has truly brought sunshine to my life!

Special Person Montage

My second assignment for the week is called Special Person Montage and is worth five stars. This assignment required you to use pictures, videos, etc of you and someone special to you and create a video about why and how they are special to you.

Steps:

  1. Go to the website called Not Digital Truth Telling
  2. Click on the link that says Week 10
  3. Scroll down to the Video Assignment section and click on the underlined link in the first paragraph colored in blue text.
  4. Go to page four and click on the assignment called Life as an Animal
  5. Open the link Special Person Montage
  6. Find the pictures you want to use and open up MovieMaker(Windows)
  7. Drop the pictures into MovieMaker, and choose to add text, music, etc.

Summary:

I had a lot of fun creating this assignment. I had several people I wanted to use for the montage but in the end I chose my best friend Brittany. Brittany and I have a lot of memories together , from rooming together , to eating together , and taking trips together. I sadly realized though that even though we spend a lot of time together we hardly have any pictures to show of our adventures together. Birttany is special to me because I can tell her anything, go anywhere with her, and we endless to talk and laugh about. This assignment was not only exciting for me to create but I also learned that I need to take more pictures of the adventures I have with people. The assignment was easy to make , and I had little trouble figuring out how to use MovieMaker.

Utada Mania

Here is the original assignment.

Utada Hikaru is an international pop artist who has greatly influenced my life. I was first exposed to her music when I had played the popular video game Kingdom Hearts. This game featured the song “Simple and Clean”, which was an English rendition of her Japanese hit “Hikari”. Since then, I’ve listened to many of her songs.

Utada Hikaru

Utada is special to me because I can sense her passion through her music. She sings in a way that most other artists would not try to. All of her songs are very positive and uplifting; even the songs that are about negative issues seem to be positively wrapped.

The songs I love most by Utada are the ones I feel she has poured the most emotion into. One song, The Flavor of Life, had been 2nd on the international charts. When I had first heard the song, I did not like it as much because it was so slow, but the more I listened to it, I realized that it was slow because she had packed so much emotion into each word. This song has helped me become a better person.

Another aspect of her that I like is that she is able to sing very well live. Only recently did I discover that she had videos of her concerts on YouTube. I was surprised to see that she had sung on MTV in 2001, back when I was only in elementary school and before I knew her.

I also love Utada for her simplicity. Although she is very famous, many of her music videos showcased her performing mundane tasks such as washing the dishes, listening to music from her computer, and dancing. I get the sense that she is a genuinely nice person who is not much different than normal people.

I enjoy how she imbues English into her Japanese songs. Her first major hit, First Love, goes back-and-forth between the two languages. One aspect I enjoy when listening to Utada is that I don’t have to know the lyrics to create meaning from her songs. Simply listening to her is a new experience each day.

Process

To make this video, I used Window Movie Maker. This software can be downloaded to a Windows machine for free by downloading Windows Essentials.

I found clips of Utada that I liked from YouTube. To download the video, I used savefrom, which allows you to download any YouTube video in multiple output formats. After having downloaded the videos, I then dragged each video onto Windows Movie Maker.

Next, I rearranged the videos so that they were in an order I approved of. I then  added transitions between each video to make the piece look nice. I made sure to have each video fade in and fade out, so that the transitions would be less harsh. After that, I added an introduction and credits and modified the text. Finally, I exported the piece by clicking File -> Save Movie.

That’s it!

John, the Favorite

Special Person Montage- 5 Stars

This assignment‘s prompt is:

For this assignment you are to decide on who is special to you.

So prepare yourself for total cheesiness because I chose my boyfriend. Since I am someone into photography, I have plenty of photos to use for a montage. I used to do this sort of thing all of the time in middle school for my friend’s birthday’s so I thought it might be fun to start it back up!

The Work Itself

The Story Behind the Story

I chose this assignment for a couple of reasons. I have plenty of photos to choose from and I also have a lot of special people to choose from! I chose my wonderful boyfriend, John because his birthday is coming up next week and I thought this would be a cute video to surprise him with. He truly is a great and genuine person that I can always have fun with no matter if we’re watching our favorite show or going on an adventure in the mountains. He is always there for me even when I am completely stressed out from school and take it out on him.

Narrating the Process

I used Windows Movie Maker for this assignment. It is very user friendly and basic so the assignment turned out very easy. I opened the photos up in Windows Movie Maker, added the title, the transitions between photos, a few captions, and one song.

You can see that the transitions are under the tab “Animations” and all that is required is picking a transition.

Unfortunately when I converted the video into a mp4 so I could upload it to YouTube, the quality became significantly worse. I am not sure how to fix that problem.
