Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn!

So I changed this assignment up a little bit because I love Margot Robbie and she’s great in all her movies, but the other scenes I wanted to use were kind of inappropriate. Originally the assignment was to create a 30 to 60 second highlight reel of your favorite Actor/Actress with their most enjoyable movie scenes. Since I wanted to use scenes of Margot Robbie, I decided to use my favorite scenes from her portrayal of Harley Quinn because Suicide Squad is one of my favorite movies! I got a little bit carried away will the time but once I got started and realized how long it was once I finished I didn’t want to cut anything out. Here it is, hope everyone enjoys it!

One of The Greats

For the second video assignment I chose to do a “highlight reel” of one of my favorite actors, Robin Williams. I thought the toughest part of this assignment was selecting only a couple scenes. Robin Williams has done so much great work it was hard to condense it down to 30 seconds, so my video runs long at 90ish seconds. I ended up choosing a couple of my favorite movies: “Dead Poet’s Society,” “Aladdin,” and “Mrs. Doubtfire” all made the cut for different reasons. Robin Williams had such range in his acting abilities from taking on more serious roles in “Dead Poet’s Society” and “Good Will Hunting” to the comic relief in “Aladdin” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

The Career of Hugh Jackman

For the Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel, I decided to make a supercut, more or less, of Hugh Jackman’s acting career up to this point (from the 90s up to 2017). From his first television appearance in Law of the Land, an Australian show, to 2017’s Logan, I wanted to show his diversity as an actor and his evolution. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really include much of Jackman’s material on stage. Until 2000’s X-Men, Jackman was primarily known as a dramatic stage actor, which did land him film roles like Kate and Leopold and Les Miserables, but the first reactions to the casting news that he would be playing Wolverine were pretty negative. By the end, of course, we all know that Jackman was born to play Wolverine, and that he was absolutely perfect in Logan, but that he has a range that is very rare for a Hollywood actor. I also thought it was pretty entertaining to see him go from a young guy in a goofy television series to this grizzled badass that we all know and love.

Creating this video actually took a good amount of work. First, using IMDb as my guide, I picked what I thought was a good range of roles over his career so far. I avoided using some of his more negatively received performances (but I couldn’t help but add his performance from Pan in, since it was just so cheesy and the makeup was too weird not to include). Finding clips also proved fairly difficult. For example, I wanted to find a clip form another Australian television series he did when he was in his 20s called Snowy River, which he shot sometime between Law of the Land and X-Men, but there are very few clips available showing him in the show, despite his being one of the main characters. Downloading and then importing the clips into iMovie was pretty time consuming, but by far the most time-consuming element was trimming each clip down to a suitable time that also showcased something about his role in the film. I also had a little added technical difficulty with iMovie’s credit sequence preset. Despite all this, and despite making it a little too long for the assignment guidelines, I liked this quite a bit and had a lot of fun making it.

Meryl Streep highlight reel

The last assignment I did was called favorite actor highlight reel and is worth 4.5 stars to bring me over the 10 star minimum.

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/favorite-actoractress-highlight-reel/

For this assignment I used different videos of Meryl Streep who is one of my favorites. I wish I could have used more but I wanted it to be around a minute long. I used clips from the Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia, and Julie and Julia. The one from the Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorites because she plays this very cold and demanding person which is what you don’t usually see from her. I also used a clip at the beginning from that where she gets off the elevator and looks like a terror. In Mamma Mia I used a clip from the song Dancing Queen when she is jumping around the room with her friends. At the end I used a clip of her beating the other cooks at chopping onions and taking pride in it. I used iMovie to put it all together and I really liked doing this assignment.

Leonardo DiCaprio Acting His Heart Out

For the Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel assignment I put together the video above. I am a big fan of DiCaprio movies so I enjoyed going back and looking at some of these crazy scenes he made.

Behind the Creation

I knew immediately when I saw this assignment that I was going to make this compilation for Leonardo DiCaprio. I think  he is such a great actor and just embodies any character he plays so well. I hope that this compilation sheds some light on DiCaprio’s acting ability, if it is not evident already. There are many other movie clips I could of selected but I had to try my best to keep this within a minute. Despite the fact that he has only won one oscar in his career (which is a load of BS), he is one of the best actors in Hollywood today. I hope you all will enjoy watching these as much as I did.

The Process

I used iMovie to put this video together. The process of importing and cutting the clips to create the movie was the same as in my All Hail King Leo assignment. Refer to the tutorial I made in there to get a more detailed explanation of how I put the video together.

Benicio del Toro Montage

So, for this assignment, I made a montage of Benicio del Toro clips from various movies. I tried to include something from all my favorites, although somehow Way of the Gun was left out. Past that, I tried to isolate the a few intense moment from the scene; the whole thing is supposed to be between 30-60 seconds. It was actually harder to cut it that short than it would have been to leave it long. The last thing I tried to do was make the clips sort of flow together and create the sense of a really abstract story. Intro at the beginning, confusion ensues, the action reaches a crescendo, and then it all falls with him going down at the end.

Give Him an Oscar Already!

Hey guys!

Time for some video making magic.

The Assignment

The assignment is called “Favorite Actor/Actress Reel” and it is worth 4.5 stars. The exact instructions are:”Create a 30 to 60 second highlight reel of your most enjoyable movie scenes from your favorite Actor/Actress.”

The Story

Okay, there are memes about Leonardo DiCaprio and how it is seriously time to give him an Oscar. It’s a funny running joke but it’s also not very funny at all. 90% of the movies that he has starred in I absolutely loved. I don’t know if he’s just been lucky with directors or movies but I feel that he always brings a fantastic leading character. What is going on in the industry?! Titanic, Inception, BLOOD DIAMOND! His Wikipedia page shows all of the awards he has been nominated for and some of the ones he has won and I am surprised and disappointed that his major roles won small awards like MTV Movie Awards. He is an extraordinary actor. When I watch him, I feel the character and their emotions and their life. This makes me think the awards industry is just like any other now: all about who knows who. Maybe Leo made somebody important mad, or maybe he stepped on the wrong toe and now they will forever torture him. This brings me to the point that it’s hard to tell these days if awards and recognition are actually given to a person because of their achievements or because of some backdoor deal and negotiation. I am never surprised anymore when a news story breaks about secret emails or meetings or lies. It’s just how the world is now. The message here is: One, Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing, and two, fact check and recheck everything you hear.

First, you may want to download a great application such as ClipGrab. This allows you to very easily find any clip on YouTube, copy the URL of that clip and paste it into ClipGrab. Then click “download” or “Grab this clip” and the clip should appear as a file in your chosen location. Then you can edit that file in which ever way you want! Below is a picture of what ClipGrab looks like.

Next, choose your videos! I searched YouTube for some of my favorite Leo movies and grabbed some clips. I didn’t use any music for this assignment because I wanted to leave the clips with the sound. iMovie is my movie making software of choice (because it came free with my computer, hah!). iMovie recently had an update that changed a few things around. Below is a picture of what the iMovie interface looks like.

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 10.39.24 AM

First, import your videos by clicking the little down arrow on the very top left. Once you have imported your videos they will all show up like the one I have of my dog. You can selects parts of them or double click to select the whole clip and then drag it down to the boxes below in the gray area. This is how you will “piece” your movie together. For this tutorial, I did not use any filters or sound alterations. Titles, transitions, backgrounds and etc can now be found right above your imported clips. I used transitions between every clip. You can play around with all of them and see how they look. Below is an image of two clips with a transition. The transition is the two white arrows facing each other and you can change the duration by double clicking on it.

Titles are also a great way to add some sense to a video. I used them to make a title of what movie the clip was from. Just click on the title that you want and then it will show up only our screen. Type what you want and press enter. The title bar right above your clip can be extended or shortened if you want the title to last longer or shorter. It can also be dragged to different positions in the clip in case you want the title to appear at a certain point in the clip. When I was done stringing everything together, I clicked on “file”,”share” and “file” to export my movie. Below is a clip of what that looks like.

Will Ferrell Highlights

The Work Itself

This video assignment is titled “Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel“. Its instructions are to “create a 30 to 60 second highlight reel of your most enjoyable movie scenes from your favorite Actor/Actress”. It is rated by the public 4/5 stars for difficulty. I created a YouTube video of my favorite scenes and clips of Will Ferrell and mashed them together to make a highlight reel. Will Ferrell is one of the funniest, and goofiest actors I have ever seen. My video is titled “Will Ferrell Highlights“, it is on my YouTube channel.

The Story Behind The Story

Will Ferrell is one of the funniest actors of my time. Every movie of his is a comical. My favorite Will Ferrell movie is “Talladega Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby“. There are so many great scenes and clips of Will Ferrell, so I wanted to a create a compilation of his funniest moments in television. If there ever becomes an award for most comical actor in the last decade or even century, then viewers will be inclined to nominate Will Ferrell after watching this video. I have seen almost every movie that Will Ferrel stars in, and have laughed at every film.

The Process, Narrated

I cut and pasted several clips from a handful of Will Ferrell YouTube videos. I downloaded the videos using http://en.savefrom.net/. I then opened QuickTime Player and loaded the video I had just previously downloaded. In QuickTime, I trimmed the video to use only the portions I want. I did this by dragging the yellow bar to the left and right in the timeline. Right after, I clicked “TRIM” to complete the editing. I saved the video, and inserted it into YouTube video editor. In the video editor, because the video is edited, I simply just dragged it into the “insert video” section, created a title slide and that was it. I uploaded it to my channel and published it to the public. Here are some photos documenting the described process.

Favorite Actor Highlight Reel

This is a Video Assignment and its worth 4 stars. This assignment was to take your favorite actor or actress and take a minimum of 30 seconds of your favorite scenes. I chose Tyler Perry because not only does he act as 3 characters in his films/plays but he is also brings out the characters in such a strong way that I had to use him for this video assignment. I used my favorite character by him which is Madea. I went on Youtube and picked my four favorite films by him. I then used the 4k downloader and put the clips in the iMovie and from there trimmed it down to make the video under 2 min. I then added transition effects in between the films and put titles on the videos just in case people don’t know the movies. I had a lot of fun putting this together because it was fun to go back and look at fun parts of his films. If there was any improvement for this assignment it would have to be making the transitions better and maybe don’t cut the clips in odd spots. I think the hardest challenge was cutting them. I love the scenes and to cut it to only short moments was really hard. I hope you like it!

Steve Carell Funny Moments

Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel (3 Stars)

Description of Video Assignment: “Create a 30 to 60 second highlight reel of your most enjoyable movie scenes from your favorite Actor/Actress.”

The Story

Steve Carell has always been one of my favorite actors. He plays the boss of my favorite TV show The Office. He plays the perfect role of how not to run an office or company. He plays the weatherman in Anchorman 1 and 2, which is also my favorite movie. He plays a role of a very dumb weatherman but the stuff he does is really funny. Like in Anchorman 2 they were having a funeral for him because they thought he got last at sea but he shows up to it and speaks at his own funeral crying how much he’s going to miss himself.

The Process, Narrated

To create this assignment I had to first download Clipgrab which allowed me to save videos off Youtube onto my computer. Once I saved all the videos I wanted to use I starting to trim the videos using Quicktime on my mac. I would trim the video and save it on my desktop. When I had all my trim clips I then used iMovie on my mac to put all the clips together into one video. I used powerpoint to create the beginning intro and uploaded it to the video in the intro section. iMovie made it easy to insert the video and introduction because it had a preset slot for everything.

Then I uploaded the video to Youtube and embedded it into my blog post.
