Lyric Video

For this assignment, I used this assignment. Originally, I wanted to create a karaoke version of a song. Mostly due to copyright issues that Youtube always brings, but also because I thought it would be more fun. But mostly due to copyright. I was using ClipChamp to make this video, and it was a really nice site to use with really good features. I remember using it once in high school to make a project and really liking it. But I did run into a problem where it kept crashing on me all the time, which was super annoying. I even tried to use it on a desktop computer and it still kept crashing. And of course it completely crashed and stopped working after I finished making a video that I was super proud of. I was originally going to use Adobe OpenShot, but I used it for one day and when I tried to reopen it, it completely refused. Maybe this just isn’t my best tech week :/ As my last resort, I ended up using iMovie to make and edit this video, and then uploaded it to YouTube after.

I chose the song ‘Best Song Ever’ by One Direction for this lyric video. I wanted to make this video channel the 2011-2013 era genre of lyric videos. I wanted to be silly and funny with it (the girls that get it, get it. The girls that don’t, don’t). Also, I was super frustrated that two other video programs were completely shutting down on me. So instead of making a really impressive video like I planned, I instead went for a more comically route.

Story Through Lyrics

Recently, I watched a playthrough of NieR (2010), and the soundtrack is out of this world amazing! I especially love the ending credit song “Ashes of Dreams” because it captures the bittersweet and somber tone of the story.

When I initially decided to do the lyric video assignment (4.5 stars), I wanted to do “Don’t Think Twice” by Utada Hikaru, but when I opened up the iMovie app and saw the ‘organic’ background, the first song that popped into my head was “Ashes of Dreams (New)”

To match the tone of the story as well as the quality of the singer’s voice, I chose the ‘Focus’ title for the text. Although the lyrics don’t fully present themselves completely in time with the song, I nonetheless still think it captures the atmosphere the song is trying to present. My purpose of this lyric video wasn’t to make it a perfect “sing-along” type of lyric video, but one that indirectly tells the story of the game. I did it for the aesthetic, really.

I also played around with the colors of the text based on the part of the song it’s at (verse, chorus, etc.). I wanted to maintain an earthy tone to match the organic background, but I highlighted certain words with specific colors to give the text more life.

Lastly, during the instrumental sections, I downloaded the ending video of the game, lowered the video’s opaqueness, and added extra filters. Overall, it was time consuming and battery draining, but I very much enjoyed this assignment.

Here is the lyric video! I hope I was able to convey the mood of the story!

My First (and Probably Last) Lyric Video

I am finally done!!! This lyric video for the Create a Lyric Video Assignment (4.5 stars) took forever….. I will never again say how easy it looks to make a lyric video!! It is a lot of tedious work….

I decided to do this assignment because it looked easy and fun (that’s what I thought before doing it….). I decided that I would create a lyric video for the song that was used to represent our Contiki trip across Spain and France- Greenlight by Pitbull- using pictures from our trip to make it interesting. First, I downloaded the official music video for Greenlight to use for my lyric video’s audio. I then uploaded the video to iMovie. Then, I downloaded all of the pictures from my Spring Break trip that I could find on Facebook. I then added them to iMovie. I then went to Google to find the exact lyrics to the song- they popped right up when I searched it into Google; it only lists the songwriters (Armando Perez / Tramar Dillard / Gamal Lewis / Henry Walter / Lukasz Gottwald / Noel Fisher), not a website to link to.

I then started working on the video in iMovie. To create it, I would add a picture and then add a title for approximately each new line. I would try to add each new line approximately when it came during the song. After typing in the new line, I would listen to it back and adjust the length of the title; then I would add the next line and repeat. I would add a new picture every few lines or so. I went through and did this for the whole song, constantly checking the lyrics to make sure I was typing them correctly. It took a lot for my computer to process the audio, the short titles, and the pictures, but we made it through! You can see from the picture below how many titles and how short/ small they were!

I do no think iMovie is the best tool for creating lyric videos, or maybe I did not use it in the most effective way possible. The font got really small for some of the longer lines, which meant, I could never put two lines on one slide. The lyrics go through pretty fast because I was unable to fit many words on each slide. Most of the lyric videos I have seen, have several lines on each slide and do not move so quickly. I was unable to figure out how to do this with my technique.

I also was unable to find a tool that would allow me to separate the audio from the image that I downloaded, so iMovie had to process the images I was adding as well as the images that were part of the initial music video… This whole experience was definitely a learning process. If I had to go back, I would probably do more research in the beginning to see if there were easier ways to do what I was hoping to do…

A Lyric Video for One Republic

For one of my video assignments, I created a lyric video for one of my favorite songs, Future Looks Good, by One Republic. I had a lot of fun creating this video! I downloaded the song from a YouTube video, and then looked up the lyrics on A-Z Lyrics. Once I had the song and the lyrics, as well as a background image to use, I used iMovie to animate and create a lyric video! It was definitely time consuming, however, it was a lot easier and more fun than I thought it would be! Maybe I’ll make more lyric videos in the future!

Please enjoy:

Assignment Bank 1 (Week Eleven):

Create Lyric Video

For this assignment, I was instructed to create a lyric video. I decided to use this assignment bank task and link it back to Jester. See how I made this connection and my finished product below:

So to begin, I had to figure out a way to make my lyric video relate to Jester in one way or another. I figured the best way I could secure a solid connection would be to pick out an accurate song that reflected a villain. Therefore, I chose to create my lyric video on the song “Sucker For Pain” by Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla $ign, Imagine Dragons, and Wiz Khalifa. To further strengthen the bond between the lyrics and Jester, I added the picture I’ve used all semester long that has represented Jester’s creepy smile. Here is the step-by-step process of my creation:

  1. I downloaded Sucker For Pain from youtube and converted it into a mp3, opened imovie, and imported the file to my media on the application.
  2. Then, I googled the lyrics to the song. I ended up using the lyrics Google Music had to offer. They were the most accurate.
  3. Next came the fun part, I had to make sure all of the words showed up perfectly on the screen to match the tempo of the song. This was the most time-consuming and frustrating part.
  4. After a quick run through to make sure everything ran smoothly, I was pleased with the outcome and uploaded it to youtube!

Lyric Video

For this week, I did a video assignment worth 5 stars. The goal of this assignment was to create a lyric video. I used iMovie to create the video and I used the website vid to mp3 to download the song. Sadly, I knew most of the lyrics to the song so I didn’t have to look them up… I kept the backgrounds pretty basic for this video because this song has a lot of words and I felt like that should be the main focus of the video. I did add some cool transitions to make the words pop a little more when they appeared on the screen. After I finished the video, I uploaded it to Youtube.

Enjoy!

I’m Going Southbound to Where the Ocean’s Flirting with the Coast

Create a Lyric Video

Create a lyric video for a song. Try and be as creative as possible. Use multiple fonts, colors, backgrounds, and transitions. Try not to be super plain and try to deliver the lyrics clearly and correctly. (4.5 Stars)

I had a hard time deciding what song I would like to create a lyric video for, but I finally settled on Tiger Striped Sky by Roo Panes because it has some of my favorite lyrics that exist in a song.  I stumbled onto this song by accident in my Spotify Weekly Playlist.  I have since listened to it on repeat and know all the words.  I think it is so interesting to me because what would you consider a Tiger Striped Sky? Video became challenging when I learned that iMovie no longer comes standard on Macs.  I didn’t want to pay for iMovie so I whipped out my PC because Windows Movie Maker can still be downloaded for free.  I had worked with Movie Maker when I was much younger, so I knew to some extent how the program works. I quickly learned that Movie Maker works a lot better now than it did when I was younger and is much more user friendly.

You simply add all the photos that you would like to include in your video from the desktop.

addphotos

You place all the photos in the order you would like them by dragging and dropping them in order.  You can make the photos stay in the screen longer or shorter by clicking the video tools and extending the time.

photos

You then click the add music button and the sound for your video is inserted in conjunction with the pictures.

lyrics

You click the Caption button on the home menu to insert text over the video. Once all the text timing is correct you can click the file menu and click save movie. The movie will then save to your desktop.

After I saved the video to my desktop I uploaded it to Youtube prior to embedding it in this video.

no we’re never gonna quit it, no we’re never gonna quit it

I like chocolate, how ’bout you? …well too bad, this song is about cocaine. but i thought the theme of illegal deeds and running from the boys in blue fit well for bonnie and cleo.

This is for the lyric video assignment. I created each page of lyrics in photoshop. I paired the straightforward, thin font, Orator std, with the bold, large, and handwritten font, Boli MV, for contrast and to put emphasis on certain words. The song is called ‘Chocolate’ and it’s a cover of The 1975 song done by Nina Nesbitt. It’s one of the songs I had put in my playlist for Cleo that I made with her character dossier. I chose the fade from black transition for the beginning cause I thought it was cute. And then for the rest of the transitions between slides I didn’t want anything too flashy or ostentatious or tacky. so I went with mostly slide across and down and then a blur through whenever I changed the background image.

You may notice I only did a minute worth of the song. That’s because windows movie maker kept giving me crap with the audio. If I wanted to start watching it from the middle of the video, it would play the audio a couple seconds later from where it actually was. So then I had to watch the video from the beginning every time I wanted to check the timing on a slide. It was fine at first and then became mind-numbingly infuriating by the time I got 20 seconds into the song. Then I also felt like I was practically doing a lyric typography poster for each slide and was verging on spending way too much time on a three star assignment.

Always in My Heart.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately. Which is nothing new.

This go-around, like many of the go-rounds before, the topic of my musings has revolved around loss, and weather or not there is anything to be gained in the days that follow said loss.

And like in the three-star lyric video that I created, my heart is tugged back and forth over and over again between the two possible answers to that question, never really seeming to be at peace for too long as it flits back and forth from one extreme to the other. The transitions used between the 53 second mark and the 58 second mark really captured the feeling of that constant internal battle and persistent question that nags at me on the daily.

But as opposed to making myself go insane, I instead donned Amy’s mint green Bose (not quite my color, but they got the job done …), and let the music carry me away.

I truly hope it does the same for you.

Fluffies video

The last assignment that I did was called Create A Lyric Video worth 3 stars. This was a really fun assignment. The song I used was What’s up Pussycat by Tom Jones. I have had this song stuck in my head for days cause I was really missing my cats. All the pictures are of my 2 cats. This had to have been ones of my favorite assignments.
