After a show, and after some people had a little too much to drink, my band did an interview with a local music promotion group (Cult XLV on Facebook, check ’em out). The wipe-out was probably the best possible instant replay I could think of, so I replayed it sped up, then slowed it down. I used kdenlive, as it runs on GNU/Linux to splice the clips together, and added some of my band’s music as the background (synced up to the best of my ability). There’s some clip features and transitions you can use, and i just used the speed transition to speed up the clip and slow it down.
For this assignment I chose to take a clip of something and make an instant replay for it. I am a huge baseball fan and have always been a Yankees fan. That is why I chose to take Aaron Judge’s swing and make it a slow motion video. Aaron has hit so many home runs this year that finding a video of one of them was quite simple! To do this I downloaded a video of his swing from youtube. Next I found an online tool called MP3care.com. From there I could slow down or speed up the clip however I wanted. I chose to remove the audio so it didn’t sound all weird. It should look something like this:
And that is about it! It was a relatively simple process but seeing his swing in slo-mo is such a satisfying thing. Check it out:
I figured since I was already outside earlier that I would go ahead and make an instant replay video. It was cold so I chose something that would get my blood pumping. I just did some breakdancing, more specifically “tops” or “top rocks” which is anything you do up top on your feet. I had found this song when I was making my commercial for our radio show and I was waiting to try it out! I just took one clip with my laptop and transferred it to iMovie, cut out the extra noise, and selected the section I wanted to instant replay and it happened to sink back up with my steps without me having to alter it or anything like that. Just uploaded it to Youtube and voila.
This blog is my submission to the Instant Replay! assignment. There are many other assignments within the video assigment bank on the d1s06 website, however this caught my attention the most.
There is a huge variety of video assignments, this caught my attention the most because it is a light hearted assignment. I seen this as an opportunity to incorporate humour into my work. The assignment brief is straight forward as it tells us exactly want it wants from us. “Choose a video or clip of an action, and then pick a part of the original clip and slow it down to create an instant replay. Show both the original action as well as the slow-mo instant replay!” After reading the assignment brief I knew I would enjoy this task and my work is always better when I am doing something I enjoy.
After watching the example video it is clear how the editing style of the video is going to be. The actual video shows a girl falling over on roller-skates, I knew most of the examples would be ‘fails’ as these are proven to be the most popular videos for incorporating a slow-motion instant replay. Further research into looking at other users assignment submissions the general theme is actually ‘epic-fails’. This theme is something I want to stick with and not to venture towards something else, I want to create an epic fail video but I want to add my own twist to it so it’s not so similar to everybody else’s but still the same theme.
The initial idea I want to make into an instant replay on this video of the great Mike Tyson falling off some type of motor-board.
This is actually a perfect example of an epic fail and would make a fantastic slow-motion instant replay, however it would be too similar to everybody else’s instant replays as it’s just another person getting hurt.
Here is the video I have created for this Assignment. When I said I wanted to add my own twist to it, the twist is incorporating a cat. Cat’s videos are extremely popular, if not the most popular type of videos on the internet. However all of these ‘epic fail’ videos mostly show people getting hurt. I wanted to show and create a harmless video of a cat doing something funny that only a cat would do.
I created this video in Adobe Premiere, it was a fairly straight forward edit. What I had to do was import the cat video file into Premiere.
This image shows what it looks like when importing footage into Premiere Pro. After I imported the image I cut down the footage so only the clip of the cat jumping off the television was shown.
The screenshot above reads “One More Time!” I made this by adding titles in Premiere then creating the text in the title editor. It says “One More Time!” because this graphic helps put the video into context for the viewer, I also added another title before the slow-motion part of the video started.
In the centre if the screenshot it shows I have set the speed of this clip to 35%. This is to slow down this individual clip so it’s slow-motion. You can also see I have set the final slowed down clip to black and white to fit the theme style of ‘epic-fails’ just like the example video in the brief.
This was a very fun assignment, I wish to do more humorous styled videos or any other fun type of assignments in the future . If you esmy to view the original video of where I got the cat clip from, you can view it here.
I had a lot of fun with this assignment. I had to choose a video and edit an instant replay into it. I knew just the video I wanted to use. My friend Riley has this video of him attempting to do a flip off of a stump, but he missed the landing. He sent me the video and I used Windows Movie Maker to copy the part I wanted to slow down, set it to 0.25x speed of the original, and put it all together. Here’s the video:
The funniest thing to me is watching people fall, which is slightly messed up but that’s okay. I chose to remix a video of a girl being pushed off of a desk to edit.
First I found the video on YouTube, then I downloaded it online onto my computer. I imported the video into iMovie, copies the short scene that I wanted, and pasted it into a new project. I let it play all the way through and pasted it again right after to slow it down and make it black and white, which I thought added comedic effect. In order to make it seem more like a story, I added text (PS I made up the name Tia). This assignment has to do with the theme of the internet because it is a video that went completely viral.
I’m going to get my money’s worth for that copy of Akira I had to find for that last assignment. I decided to make another video using the movie; to be specific, I’m doing the instant replay assignment. Pretty early in the movie, Tetsuo, Kaneda, and the other members of the Capsule Gang are in a bike fight with their rival gang, the Clowns. Tetsuo splits off to chase down one of the Clowns, and ends up accidentally ramming his bike right into a kid, causing an explosion since the kid has psychic powers. This ends up being the event that sets all the other events in the movie into motion, but that’s beside the point. Here’s the video with an instant replay of Tetsuo colliding with the kid:
I’ve never really used Windows Movie Maker before today, so it’s been a bit confusing to use. I think I’m getting the hang of it though.
I have extraordinarily tolerant friends and a purple Nerf gun.

Stars: 4
Process: After recording, I made a new project in Adobe Premier and imported the video. I’d never used the software, so I dragged the file into a pane that looked like an editing window and moved to Edit > Speed to set the speed to 50%. I then dragged it to Timeline, which I figured was used for final assembly. I dragged over the original clip, which automatically changed speed as well. After resetting this and watching the video as a whole, I reduced the slow motion segment to 25% of the original’s speed. To finish, I exported it as a .mov file.
I enjoy watching America’s Funniest Home Videos, which often have an instant replay effect, so I thought I’d try my hand at this assignment. I chose a ridiculous scene from Xena: Warrior Princess, where the protagonist makes an incredibly cheesy gravity-defying leap. I did a quick Google Search to determine how to use slow motion in CyberLink PowerDirector (apparently its a Power Tools option) and completed the effect. The result helps emphasize the ridiculousness of the jump, while also demonstrating some of the mechanics of the Xena warcry.
This assignment was worth 4 stars. The goal of this assignment was to find a video and create an instant replay from part of the video. Here is the link to the original assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/instant-replay/. I used iMovie to create this video. I didn’t have any trouble doing it because I have used the slow motion feature before. I found the video on youtube and used fastest free Youtube video downloader to save the video for editing .
After I finished this video, I uploaded it to YouTube. I hope you guys think it is funny, because I think it is hilarious!
