Final Cut is handy!

The process for making this assignment was pretty straightforward. I was asked to find various clips from movies or tv shows and add music to the background. I decided to take clips from some movies I had rewatched recently.

I first found the clips online and downloaded them. The next step was creating a new project and uploading the files to the program. I found it a bit easier to identify timestamps with YouTube and then select the right parts in Final Cut. My favorite feature so far with the program is the ability to extract the audio from a video. I had no idea how to do that last week, but it was effortless. Just right-click and select detach audio.

The final part is using the scissors tool to cut any unnecessary pieces out and use the position tool to rearrange everything. I found using YouTube versus Vimeo much more accessible, and it’s definitely due to how developed the site is, but I don’t think this video will get taken down. The clips are pretty old, and my channel is pretty small. We will see…

Suicide Squad Music Change

Video Crack – 4.5 Stars

For this assignment I had to take clips from a movie and place music over it to change the scene feeling. I decided to use Suicide Squad again because I had already downloaded clips from my video essay. I watched the clips and thought about what songs would change the feeling of them.

The first clips I did was with Harley and The Joker out running Batman in their car. I overlapped this scene with the song Youth by Troye Sivan. The scene is intense but I added that song to lighten the mood and make it more about the couple. It worked great because the song says:

-What if, what if we run away
What if, what if we left today
What if, we say goodbye to safe and sound
What if, what if we’re hard to find
What if, what if we lost our minds
What if, we looked and fall behind and then never found
And when the lights start flashing like a photobooth
And the stars exploding
We’ll be fireproof-
Which I feel like really fit the Joker and Harley’s personalities and relationship.
The second clip I chose was the Suicide Squad at a bar. Instead of a sad/dramatic bar scene I decided to pump it up with some upbeat music, Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO.
The last clip is The Joker and Harley where he is talking to her and about to hurt her. I decided to also lighten the mood by adding Obsessed by Mariah Carey to it. I thought it seemed fitting because she says ‘You’re delusional’ and ‘Obsessed with me’ which makes it seem like that is how the Joker is about Harley.
I used iMovie and my own iTunes songs to create this video.

“Video Crack”

Process: I downloaded the song “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion and took a movie clip form Youtube with the Deathstar / Planet Destroyer 2.0 (or 3.0? I’m not sure how many they’ve made) destroying one of the planets from the newest Star Wars movie. I put them both on Movie Maker and aligned the song and movie clip perfectly to enhance the scene.

Story: The intense part of “My Heart Will Go On” can be put over almost any movie clip and make it absolutely intensely wonderful.

Here are a few videos to help you see how great this song works with movies:

For this assignment I chose a scene from Fight Club of Tyler Durden offering the rules of fight club which then goes into a complete fight scene.  I was thinking at first that I would pick a song that perfectly described the build and anticipation that leads to that pretty brutal scene, but then I wanted to do something that would be the complete opposite of matching them together.  So I chose Claire de Lune by Debussy to add to the video audio.  I did this because in a way, Tyler is orchestrating this symphony of guys to embrace what their reality really is, and he builds up to this moment of the fight.  The song itself is very gentle compared to the video itself.  But Fight Club is about that outlet  caused by the fighting too, its a release.  Its almost therapeutic, much like the song choice. I created this using youdubber.com!

Video Assignment No.3 (4 stars)

For this assignment I wanted the song to fit perfectly with the scene. This required extensive research for both footage and a good piece of audio that would work well together. I first started with the picking the right scenes. I wanted something action based. I went through different scenes from several movies until I came across a classic Harry Potter scene: Harry’s first quidditch match. I remember watching this as a kid and it threw me into a nostalgic mood. That’s when I thought of the perfect song for this assignment! As I thought about myself in my early teens I remembered a song by Drowning Pools. I used to listen to this song all throughout middle school, about the same time I got into Harry Potter. I used Windows Movie Maker for this project. To make it worth 4 stars, I decided to do two scenes from Harry Potter movies instead of just one. One of the biggest challenges was timing the song to align with the scene correctly. I wanted certain parts of the song to play while a certain thing happened in the scene. This involved a lot of trimming and moving the audio around. I think it works fairly well!

Pick differnt clips from a movie(s) or a show(s) and add songs to enhance the scene. Try and make it at least a minutes long. There are also several other examples to be found on YouTube.
