Frozen spoiler alert

For this video, I compiled the main scenes from the movie, Frozen. I used iMovie to add and delete the scenes onto the final product and all of the clips I found were from YouTube (I do not own them). This video pretty much sums up the story of Frozen and all of the characters’ highlights are included.

Video Assignment #2

The assignment was Spoiler alert. I misread the directions and instead created a sort of movie trailer, so I’m uploading that instead. This assignment was pretty challenging, but I gained a lot of practice from it. I decided to do a trailer for one of my favorite shows Black Mirror. I first found an episode on Youtube and downloaded it. I then uploaded it to Windows Media Maker and began trimming the video. I would find a specific scene, trim it and then split it from the rest of the video to continue editing the remaining video. Once I had all the scenes I wanted, I began to add words into the scenes and added some transition slides. It was challenging trying to time how long the slides, text and the scenes should be. It was also difficult choosing the right scenes to not give too much away. Before I knew it, I was in front of my screen for hours. Overall, I think this assignment deserves 5 stars because of the total amount of time and effort that was put into it.

Spoiling Aliens

I liked the idea of condensing a movie into its essential scenes, so I decided to try my hand at this assignment.  It reminded me of movie trailers (which are often critiqued for giving away major plot points).  After selecting Aliens as my movie of choice, I spliced what I considered to be the essential scenes together in CyberLink PowerDirector.  I decided to focus on the aliens themselves, minimizing other major subplots (such as the centrality of Newt).  But overall, I believe my editing choices convey an effective summary of the film.  The video is below.  Spoiler Alert!

I decided to create a shorter version of Zootopia.

Spoiler Alert (3.5 Stars)

For this video assignment we had to create a 30 second spoiler for a movie. I decided to go with Star Wars: The Force Awakens because it had a very big moment at the end that made Star Wars fans across the world very angry. If you haven’t seen the movie you probably shouldn’t watch my video because you’ll be mad. Also, I am a big star wars fan so I already knew the plot well. I made this video in windows movie maker using images I found on google. I narrated it myself (poorly).

Spoiling Breaking Bad

The first assignment that I chose to do this week was to create a movie spoiler in 30 seconds or less. Well, spoilerrrrr mine is for breaking bad and its 2 minutes. The link to the assignment is:

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/spoil-a-movie-in-30-seconds-or-less/

If you have never watched breaking bad, Walter the main character and his boss is Gus. To get back and kill his powerful boss he teams up with Tio Salamonca who cant speak and is in a nursing home. He agrees to blow up Gus when he comes to him for talking to the DEA. To create this masterpiece, I found two scenes on youtube from the show that I wanted to use to portray the spoiler. Then I used KeepVid.com to download the videos to my computer. From there I imported them into IMovie and worked my magic deleting some of the unnecessary parts. For my first attempt at it, this was not all that difficult for very simple editing. The only thing that I could not figure out was the second transition. It will allow you to change the amount time the transition takes by double clicking on the transition piece. For whatever reason, it would not let me change it from .1 to 1. No idea why but if anyone knows, let me know. Well here it is:

Video Assignment – Spoil A Movie In 30 Seconds Or Less

This was the assignment I suggested in our group, so I felt obliged to complete it myself. I chose No Country for Old Men, since that was the movie I watched to analyze this week. I’m realizing I should have made the assignment a minute or less, because I easily went over the 30 seconds, even though I tried my hardest to just get key moments that conveyed the story. SPOILER WARNING ahead, don’t watch the follow video if you haven’t seen the movie, you owe it to yourself to get the full experience.

The process was fairly grueling: as I was watching the movie, I made a note of the timestamp of important events. Afterwards, I brought the movie file into Premiere Pro. I’m not sure the best way to trim clips and videos, so this part was actually very time consuming and difficult. I’m sure if some expert looked at the mess that was the project file for this assignment he would be baffled, but I somehow made it work. Besides going over the length by a fair bit, I think it turned out really well.

Small Soldiers Spoiler

In this assignment we had to spoil a movie by making a short video. This entailed finding all the major scenes relevant to the movie and combining them all into one small video.

I couldn’t think of any movie that I wanted to spoil for anyone that was recent. So I decided to do an old school spoiler for one of my favorite action movies growing up Small Soldiers. Since I was 5 years old, Small Soldiers has been one of my favorite action movies just for the fact that it had military toys. I’ve collected them all. It’s not a major spoiler because the villain of Major Chip Hazard dies at the end, but it’s still a spoiler for the movie.

This video assignment was a little more easier than the other assignments because the whole movie was already broken up into clips on Youtube. So after converting those clips to MP4, I cut them down some more and added them altogether. The first scene basically shows how the Commando Elite move, talk, and their main objective of destroying the Gorgonites. Then I go to another scene where they now outnumber the Gorgonites and humans protecting them, but the Commando Elite have created weapons that could seriously hurt people and consider the humans also as the enemy. The last scene I use is Major Chip Hazard’s death that causes an EMP to kill off the rest of the Commando Elite.

Hope your not too sad at this spoiler. It’s a little longer than 30 seconds, but it’s still a very short video.

Visual Assignment from the DS106 Assignment Bank:
Spoil a Movie in 30 Seconds or Less…or…Jurassic World Spoiler in Exactly 43 Seconds

*I am currently working my way through my fourth semester of the Information and Learning Technologies master’s program at University of Colorado, Denver.  This is the second post within a series of Creative Assignments that I’ve been tasked with completing for a course titled Digital Storytelling.

The visual assignment that I chose from the DS106 Assignment Bank is called Spoil a Movie in 30 Seconds or Less:  “Create a compilation of the most important scenes or events from a movie. Essentially, combine the major plot points into a short video.”

I went a little further and added audio…and 13 extra seconds.
