One Second Story: A Toddlers World…Is Odd.

How much of a story can you tell in a 1 second video? Inspired by this: http://vimeo.com/32071937
2.5 Stars

I didn’t really know what to record. I mean, there are countless things I could have recorded. A nice sunset, my cats/dog, the stars…I don’t know. But I decided to record my baby sister, Jessica. She confuses me all the time. You would think I would know her well since 1.) she’s my sister and 2.) I see her almost every hour now. Still, she is an odd one. So it my duty, as her wise older sister. to exploit her for art. yep.

I think this one second clip showcases how weird she is but it also shows a child living in her own little world. Like she’s just knocking…on the wall. Is she expecting someone? Why is she watching? Her hairstyle also depicts a young child without a worry, living her own life. There’s an essence of innocence.

HOW IT WORKS:
1.) Recorded sister in her natural habitat
2.) Sent it to my computer
3.) uploaded it to OneShot Video Editor
4.) Sliced some of the video to make it 1 second long
5.) Exported and uploaded to my youtube channel and then here ?

One Second of Meaning

Lastly, for this assignment I decided to use a short video clip that I took at Huntington Beach, California two years ago. I thought this assignment would be a quick, yet meaningful one. It is nice to relieve these moments, especially during a time like this. There is nothing I find more peaceful than the waves crashing and a sunset. I simply cropped the video, as it was around 7 seconds, to 1 second. I then decided to just post the video on instagram rather than youtube, as I felt the video fit more with this application rather than youtube. My family is originally from California and most of my family still remains there. It is a reminder to soak in the moment and never take time for granted.

A second can tell a thousand words

One of the assignments that I chose from the assignment bank for this week was to create a 1 second video clip that can tell a story. I decided to use a video that I already had and could crop to make a one second clip. This is a video of a waterfall I visited last month in the Great Smokey Mountains. I opened the video on my photos app on my iPhone and clicked edit. I then chose what second I wanted which happened to be the 5th second of my video. I chose this part of the video because it shows the rapids flowing as well as the entirety of the waterfall. I then sent the video to my computer and uploaded it to YouTube. I believe this short one second video shows the beauty of nature and natural scenery. ( 2 and 1/2 stars)

Sweet Moments

For my first video assignment this week I decided to do 1 second video. In this assignment, I was tasked to create a video that only last a second but tells a story.

When I first started this assignment, I did not know what I was going to take a video of, or what I wanted the story to represent. I decided to take a video of all my friends at our favorite place doing one of our favorite things! My friends and I love going to Chatham Manor and watching the sunset. We start doing this our second year at Mary Washington. When I was there a couple of months ago, I took this video of all my friends watching the sunset.

I think the story it tells is the community and fun that my group of friends always have for each other. Also I think it kind of shows in a way that we all have each others backs in any situation!

I had a lot of fun doing this assignment!

Week 11 Video Assignments

This week I will be sharing a more personal side of my character Fiery the Dragon. She has chosen to share her pets, her favorite season/ holiday and a few make – up tips. You will discover that she is just your average dragon. Lets get started. Below you will find some videos of her favorite things.

Pupper Appreciation      2 Stars

This is one of Fireys pets, Taco. He is a small dog full of fun and loves to listen to her stories. He follows Firey around wherever she goes. He is a good companion and keep her company when she is alone. There are so many good photos of Taco, it was hard to pick just a few for this video. Also, Taco has learned how to stay away from Fireys uncontrollable fires. Below you will find the short video of Taco, enjoy.

A Word… A Picture… A Story      4 stars

This is one of Fireys favorite times of the year. She loves the winter months full of snow. Her favorite holiday is Christmas because that is when all the family has come home to celebrate the season. This is also when she tells story after story about Christmas gatherings from the past.

Im A Girl       2 1/2  Stars

Make- up, a girls best friend. Firey is all girl when it comes to her make – up. She has a different look for every occasion. She loves trying new styles as well as using older techniques. So if you ever see a dragon with wild make up on, you will know it is Firey. This video show a few of her favorite looks.

Firey also has a pet cat named Smokey, he is a rescue cat. She got Smokey when he was 2 maybe 3 days old. He had to be bottle fed, his eyes were not opened yet, he was all white and she didn’t know if he was a boy or a girl. Smokey loves to roll around on Fireys bed every morning. This cat is full of energy and runs around and plays with Taco all day. They make a mess but Firey loves watching them play together.

What Do You Love       2 Stars

Quilts. You can never have to many quilts. These are just a few that she keeps around for story time. Her friends and family can use them to curl up in while she tells stories. The quilts are also used by the campfire for campfire stories.  Quilts keep you warm and surround you with love and that’s what makes them perfect for listening to one of Fireys stories.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know Firey the Dragon a little better.

You and I were fireworks

This was my Fourth of July this year! I chose this second because you can see not only our final giant fireworks, but also the burned out husks of the smaller ones we set off earlier in the foreground. It tells you a lot about our 4th!

1 Sec Video

1 Second Video – 3.5 Stars

For this assignment I had to make a 1 second video that tells a story. I decided to incorporate my superhero into this assignment.

Since she is a super chef, I decided to tell a story with her favorite appliance. A convection oven. It is small but heats up quickly so that she can complete her dishes without having to wait for a big over to heat up.

In the 1 second video the oven and timer is going off. This indicates that Mericful Mise en Place has made something and it is ready to come out of the oven. The story is a mystery because what is coming out of the oven could be anything. Is it chicken wings? An apple pie? Some lasagna? It could be anything your heart or stomach desires.

1-second video assignment

For the one-second video assignment, I took a quick video at track practice as we practiced going over steeplechase barriers. The hardest part of this was timing it to get what I needed in a one-second time frame. The other part was thinking of what I could tape for one second that could make for a good enough story.

If You Had One Second

One second is not a lot of time. What can be accomplished in a second or less? You could blink or double click a mouse. Your heart could beat once too. In one second, a top fuel dragster can use 11.2 gallons of nitro methane fuel. Usain Bolt could sprint 11 meters. Needless to say there’s not really a lot of room in one second.

Here is what I managed to capture in one second.

Did you miss what happened? My GSD perked her ears up. There’s not much to show. Why make a one second video if there isn’t much of anything to show? Well, it makes you realize just how quick time is slipping by. Most importantly like most art, it shows that you can do it. There may not be much reason to, but do you really need one?

Where do you want to go

For my next video assignment I chose one called where do you want to go and it is worth 3.5 stars.

Where do you want to go

For this assignment I had to make a video highlighting landmarks of a place I want to visit. I have always wanted to visit London so I thought this would fit well. I used iMovie to put everything together. I chose an audio recording of God Save the Queen, because it is only fitting to have their national anthem in the video. Then I searched online for pictures of Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and the River Thames. I added all of these with the audio to make a nice piece of places in London I have always wanted to see.
