The Beauty of a Second

For The Beauty of a Second assignment, you had only one second to tell a story… any story. But how much of a story can you tell within 1 second.

My story was of me recording myself by accident when I really wanted to take a picture. It was one of those iPhone moments where the camera switch was on. This story a lot of iPhone users can relate to. Of course I used my iPhone to record myself and then I uploaded it to Youtube.

This assignment is worth 1 star.

The Beauty of a Second

Here is my entry for “The Beauty of One Second” assignment. I had it revolve around a clip of someone opening a box with a ring in it. I wanted the clip to leave a sense of ambiguity to the viewer. I used iMovie to edit the clip. Enjoy!

How much of a story can you tell in a 1 second video? Inspired by this.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I created this video because I think it’s beautiful, in that it is a mixture of my grandmother and technology.  It’s something that doesn’t happen very often.  I also think that it’s funny, because she is raising the roof.  She can get down.

Realistically, this assignment is very cool.  I loved the examples, as each demonstrates that so much beauty can happen in a second.  I would do this assignment again, and definitely do a compilation.

I added music to the background of this (taken from a list of suggestions from youtube).  This is the story I am trying to tell.

10 Seconds of Beauty

For my first video assignment, I wanted to start with a relatively easy one. This is my first time attempting any video editing, so I really wasn’t sure what to do. I muddled through iMovie, and with my professor’s help I was able to complete the 1 Second Video project. iMovie was difficult to figure out at first, but it’s actually fairly intuitive, so I think that the more I use it the easier it’ll get. I took all of the footage myself using my handy-dandy iPhone, and the music is from the soundtrack to the TV show Lost.

Anyway, this project was inspired by this cool video:

So I made my own in the same vein, using ten one-second clips.

Video Assignments: 1 Second Video

The description for this assignment asked: “How much of a story can you tell in a 1 second video?” and left a link to an inspirational sixty seconds film. I first had no idea what to do, but the super-short film sort of explained it all how to start mine.

Generally, I think, the interpretation of an assignment objective is up to the creator. DS 106 is about being creative and experimenting, after all. Therefore, I decided to do a collection of one second videos. My video consists of bits and bits of moments that tells a story.

There is nothing special about the process of the work for this assignment. It’s simply taking videos, putting them in order using a video edit application, and adding music in the background. The process was easy after I figured out how to do it, but the application was last opened in 2008…so that meant there would be a technological confusion in my way.

I was mildly amazed when I uploaded my first video ever (congrats to me) on YouTube. YouTube lets you edit your video after uploading it just like other image files. It offered trimming, altering effects, and free audio to have some music playing in the background. I only chose to add an effect and stuck with what I had. One problem I found disappointing was the resolution. I didn’t expect the camera to be that bad.

Publicizing your work takes a bit of courage. I set the video to be available to the everyone, but posing a real-life visual content gave me an unexplainable sensation. I felt quirky, I guess, to display a work that is more closer with the creator in means of reproducing live moments.

I hope nothing happens to me with copyright issues…the music I used in the background is the intro of Rasen by the band lynch.

1 second Video

The Assignment was to make a one second video that tells a story.  This sort of constraint presents an interesting challenge that can have surprising outcomes.  I chose to use a 1 second video of my Friend Jacob.  In this video he is simply being Himself.  It’s strange how sometimes a single second can tell you more about a person than knowing someone for a long time.  Not to say that you don’t know your best friends or Family better than any other person but a single second has some sort of honesty behind it.  A second is enough time to see something but just short enough to not judge a person.  There is also something nostalgic about seeing a second long clip, it sort of makes you try to imagine what was happening in that given situation and lets you relate to it in how you perceive it.  I’m not sure if my video is the best example of all this but the Video that inspired the assignment is definitely a good example of how 1 second can be nostalgic in a sense.
