Viral Video Re-enactment

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/viral-video-re-enactment/ (Three and a Half Stars)

For this assignment I had to find a viral video and re-enact it. I chose to re-enact the “Yosemitebear Mountain Double Rainbow 1-8-10″ video. This video went viral because the guy is overreacting to the double rainbow and starts crying. I thought it would be funny and entertaining if I did it myself. To make this I drew the double rainbows and background and then took a video of myself talking while looking at the picture. Below is the original and my re-enactment of the video.

Devonne Gets Shot

For my final video assignment of the week, i chose to do the “Viral Video Re-enactment” worth 3.5 stars. This seemed like a very fun assignment to do. Since my other two video assignments didn’t involve The Wire, this was perfect. The hardest part of this assignment was deciding which scene from the three episodes we watched this week to choose from. I ended going with the scene where Marlo shoots Devonne. Now, this may seem like a weird pick but i based it on the fact this scene changes everything. Once Avon finds out Marlo killed Devonne, he tells Stringer and that’s when they both realize that this terriotorial thing with Avon is not going to stop. Here’s what i did!

Filming:

My friends who live on College Ave had the perfect porch to film from. It kind of looked similar to the actual scene. So i grabbed three of my friends and we filmed this. Now, it wasn’t easy to make this EXACTLY how it was in the show, but i tried. My friend who played Marlo ended up coming from behind a car because the side of the house had construction and it didn’t flow well with the scene. Now, keep in mind that this isn’t the best production. We’re just college students who have smart phones. After we ran through this about 4 times we filmed it and i later uploaded it to youtube. That’s really the whole process to be honest. There wasn’t much to it!

Epic Instrument Woman! (Viral Video Re-enactment ***)

In your entire life, you will never see anything as EPIC as this! In the beginning, there was Epic Sax Guy, but now the genders have flipped to reveal something equally, if not MORE epic! I give you, Epic Instrument Woman!

This video was created for the “Viral Video Re-enactment” video assignment where you had to re-enact a famous viral video. This video is a parody of the extremely popular “Epic Sax Guy” video, which shows a European pop group singing a song called “Run Away.” The man with the saxophone solo ends up stealing the whole show with his pelvic thrusts, smooth sunglasses, and overall epicness! This part of the song was so cool that someone made a 10 hour version of just his solo. I could sit through it forever!

I not only tried to mimic this, but I gave it my own little twist. Instead of having just a saxophone, I whipped out my clarinet and flute to add some variety. The dancing continued through all 3 instruments. I wish I could dance… What I’m wearing? Don’t question that, just gaze upon the epicosity that my outfit is radiating; purple wig, purple shades, purple morphsuit ect.

I guess the inspiration for the video was the fact that I planned to create it earlier this month as an April Fools video, just never got around to it. I like goofing off on camera, and I love the sax song, so why not combine them! Unlike my other videos, there is absolutely no message to be learned here, other than BE EPIC for the camera!

How To: Multiple Video Layers in Premiere Pro

I’ve had 3 snow days so far this week. That means I’ve had plenty of time to answer lots of emails, work on non mission-critical projects that have been piling up, have a bunch of fun with some media and digital storytelling, and catch up on some good old fashioned TV watching. Which would bring us to Adventure Time, a comically strange yet hypnotically hilarious cartoon that airs on Cartoon Network here in the United States. It’s quite a nostalgic romp through a fantasy world inhabited by magical dogs, fire princesses, and evil wizards. My family doesn’t have cable, so sadly we can’t watch the show regularly, but enjoy small snippets here and there, or more recently through video memes that manage to get stuck in your brain on endless loop like any good “mind-worm“ videos should. Take for example, the Bacon Pancake viral video meme (I’m sure that’s not actually a term, but I’m using it anyway), in which Jake the Dog is making some delicious bacon pancakes in an endless loop.

I happened across this video last week, and it’s been stuck in both my head and at least a couple of my other family members’ short term memory. I can’t vouch for the 3 year old, as the only thing he’s been expressing lately is his adamant desire for a “talking Diesel 10“. We found ourselves all humming the tune 2 nights ago, and decided that maybe actually making some bacon pancakes might help us get over the tune. Turns out, making the pancakes only made us want to sing the song more, so we created a lip dub of the bacon pancake clip starring the entire family. Thanks to the copious amounts of lake effect snow, I was able to spend a good portion of yesterday with a pot of coffee, some warm slippers, and Adobe Premiere Pro assembling the footage. You can watch below if you’re a fan of the show, or just want to see how cute my kids can be when I’m forcing them to star in a family video :)

If you’ve suffered through my brief diversion long enough, or were scanning this post for the actual “how to” video, you can check out my amateurish video editing skills below or watch on Youtube if you prefer. I’m tossing this post out to all the DS106 people in the form of a new Video Assignment I created for re-enacting viral videos, as well as the #ETMOOC people as there’s talk of creating lip dubs, and a few participants might be interested in creating some videos with multiple layers. Keep in mind, I’m not a professional, so there may be better ways to do this.

Viral Video Re-enactment

Re-enact a particularly viral or noteworthy video meme (think Nyan Cat or David at the Dentist). Not to be confused with re-interpreting a scene from a movie, the goal of this assignment is to create a live action version, or a re-enactment of, one of those annoying yet irresistible video memes and viral videos. We’re looking at your “Epic 10 Hour Sax Guy”. Make sure to link to the original meme or viral video in the description on Youtube. Bonus points if you can include family members in the video :)
