Frozen Eagle Bridge

Color Changer

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/color-changer/

When creating this image my initial goal was to try and make the Eagle Bridge look more like a castle. I had hoped that tweaking the colors (making the photo more gray), however it wasn’t turning out very well so I decided to look for a color combination that was pleasing to the eyes. I really like how the roof of the building in the top right of the photo turned out. It looks almost like some sort of abstract painting in my opinion. I think the blue kind of makes the building seem as if it was frozen, or perhaps even made out of a block of solid ice. I really like how it looks!

My basic process for this photo was to import it into Photoshop and then to play around with the colors until I liked the result. It didn’t take too long, but longer than I anticipated, because a lot of the colors that kept popping out looked really dreadful in my opinion.

Shakespeare LOL Cat

Photo-2

I found the idea of this assignment to be very funny since I am a cat lover at heart. Here is my cat Jack, looking on as if he was answering the call of Juliet. There is not too much to this picture other then I took it because I found it very funny and suiting for this visual assignment. I once again used the Aviary app to add the words on top of the picture.

Story Map

For this visual assignment I wanted to try something new and different from the normal pictures so I created a story map of a recent trip to Miami and Key Largo, Florida. Here is theĀ LinkĀ to my story map. The story behind the map is that in May of this year, my girlfriend and I travelled to Key Largo for her cousin’s wedding. It was quite the trip getting down there after hours of delays due to weather and then a very dark drive from Miami Airport to the resort in Key Largo. I used Knightlab’s Story Map to create my map putting in all the different places we went on our southern adventure.

What’s in Your Bag?

IMG_2778

Okay so heres the story of the things I carry around with me on a daily basis in my backpack. First are the two largest items, my French textbook and French notebook. Those are the only two books I currently carry because French is the only class that I am taking on campus. Along with those two items I have the regular assortment of pens, some sticky notes, my wallet and a finical calculator. I took this picture on my iPhone and uploaded it to WordPress.

My Very Own Spubble

Photo

Here is my very own spubble, featuring my female Rottweiler puppy, Dixie. The story behind this picture is this was right after I adopted her and she was still getting aquatinted with me. The look on my face was me trying not to get licked but it looks like one of fear. The story behind the speech bubble is that I thought it was funny that I look so terrified of such a little, innocent dog, so I made the joke that I hope she does not eat me. I used the Aviary app on my phone as suggested on the Ds106.us page but I could no find a pre-made speech bubble so I made my own.

Soccer Spubble

Your Very Own Spubble

Description of Assignment: ā€œLearn to love yourself, grab a picture of yourself in which your body language, actions, gestures, etc. suggest one thing and then play off that using a speech bubble. Ideally the result would make people laugh – but I must acknowledge there are other possible emotional responses that may be just as acceptable. Think of it as lolcat, save it’s a human (namely you) and there is nothing compelling anyone to abuse the letter z in the speech bubble text. Picnik.com or Aviary.com would make this assignment dead simple.ā€

Spubble

I created this ā€œspubbleā€ by first selecting a photo that I thought would fit well with a spubble. I then searched Google for websites that I could use in order to create a spubble. I found a website called Super Lame and it made making this spubble incredibly easy and fun. I uploaded a photo from my photo gallery, then was able to choose the type of speech bubble I wanted and then I simply just inserted in the text I wanted.

Even though we had to do this Visual Assignment, I still probably would of chosen it even if we didn’t. I found it very entertaining and funny to try and make the perfect spubble photo.

I chose this specific photo because I love soccer. I also thought that creating a speech bubble for this photo would be funny because I could make it say something very similar as to what would be going on in my head in that exact situation but just manipulate it a little bit to be funnier than it may have actually been.

This Visual Assignment is related to digital story telling. This is because it is a digital media photo and the photo tells a story. The story is that this is a photo of me playing soccer and in an actual game this would be pretty close to something I would be thinking in this situation, only changed to be a bit funnier (hence: my thought only in the Borat voice). Digital Storytelling is simply a ā€œshort form of digital media production that allows everyday people to share aspects of their life storyā€ (Wikipedia) and I believe this spubble does just that!

I uploaded my selfie to the site, and added a spubble to it. I also updated the desired text to my bubble. Once i was finish with the picture, i took a screen shot of the image and saved it on my computer.

Visual Assignment #1 ~ Bad Math Camp

Bad Math Camp 2015

Make a poster an advertisment of some sort for a camp or summer activity that you enjoyed as a child. If you didn’t go to any camps as a kid, make a poster for a camp you wish you had attended.

This is my poster for math camp. As a kid I wish I had gone to a math camp, I think it would have been cool, however I took a littleĀ liberty with my interpretation of the assignment, and made the poster for a “bad” math camp. No one in their right mind should want to go to that math camp… To make the poster even more ridiculous there is an implicit restriction, namely r,\ q \in \mathbb{Z}.

As for the process of making this poster, I opened up Photoshop, and then colored in the background with the two shades of green. The idea there is that the chalk board has just been erased, yielding the multicolored parts. Next I opened up an application called LatexIt, I used that to quickly typeset the math in Latex, the program is nice in that you can copy and past the output as a png file. After it was in Photoshop I used the magic wand tool to remove the white background around the letters, and in the closed regions of the letters (what a pain). Then I used the Fill tool in the edit menu to color the text white (before it was black). There you have it! A Poster for a bad math camp. Bonus points for anyone who cares to point out the flaws in each of the statements..

Humi-Lion Hybrid

hybrid

Well, i decided to take one of my photo, and changed the face with a lion face. I acknowledged that assignment call for two different animals, and according to bio chemistry humans do fall in the animal kingdom. So, I present this new specie of hum-Lion hybrid.

Looking at the image, one can tell that his species is not wild or scavenger. The dress code this animal wearing depict, that it is a well civilized hybrid. Possibly it belongs to a high society of hybrids.

For this assignment, i used gimp. Ā I loaded both of the pictures to gimp, then i cropped the head of this lion, i was using the hand crop option, and it is very annoying, because every time i tried to crop the head, i missed by a slight angle. Eventually, that was best head cut i could cropped, so i decided to use this for my photo editing. Rest of the assignments was fairly easy. I just dragged the cropped photo on top of my face, and saved the results as jpg file.
