pixeled malevolent melody

Okay so this assignment was very tricky. What mostly got me is how do you even make the image that pixelated size? I used Photoshop again and tried to make the photo 16 by 16 pixels which it wouldn’t let me size it that way…so it was 16 by 11. THEN when I saved it, it was tiny… so I figured why not screenshot it so you can see it.. but I can’t seem to find where the screenshots are going… SO THEN I used Luna Pic, to pixelate it. I’m not really sure how to resize this thing but here is what I came up with:

This is a drawing of what I believe Malevolent Melody would look like.. she has firey pink hair and glasses. I drew this on photoshop with a drawing tablet. I would’ve added her keytar but there aren’t enough pixels for that..

~ flashback friday ~

This is my girlfriend Lindsay and she’s always thinking about or drinking  juice or coffee ?

For this assignment we were asked to recreate a past version of someone or ourselves. I used Lindsay as my someone for this and luckily have a whole album of pictures of her drinking different things like Capri Suns (pictured above), iced coffee, thai tea, and iced tea. I already wanted to combine those photos so I did so with Photoshop.

Some things never change.. besides her having glasses. ?

Haiku it Up

I’m not really sure what the random dailyshoot photograph is so I decided to use a random photograph I’ve taken for inspiration of this Haiku:

The sky keeps changing

Trees leaves are always on loop

Nature’s precious like us

bad edit

I literally did what the assignment said:

“Pick A Bad Photo, Apply A Vintage Effect And Write Something In Helvetica”

So in order to do this assignment I looked through my phone because I end up with random blurry pictures pretty often. My camera can load kinda slow sometimes so it happens. This wasn’t so much blurry but it wasn’t the best quality. I just wanted to capture the moon which if you’ve taken a picture of it, you know its much better through your eyes than through a camera lens. Once I chose the photo, I then applied a filter on Photoshop and text which stated how I truly felt when I took that picture. That’s basically it.

ComboPhoto

Background about this assignment:

For this assignment you’re asked to combine two photos to create one. I am familiar with Stephen McMennamy’s work  from taking digital art in the past. I felt that I would really enjoy doing this assignment because they’re really cool pics and I’ve always wanted to make one! I used Photoshop because I’ve become very familiar with Adobe products. I think the hardest part was figuring out what two things to combine. At first I wanted sprinkles involved but that didn’t work out so the next best thing was ice cream! If I could change anything about it, I would make the background of the top half gray like the bottom half… heck, maybe I will when I get some time. I’ll keep you updated :p

Where’s the BOOM???

For my “Say It Like Peanutbutter” assignment I chose a scene from “The Dark Knight” where Heath Ledger as the Joker is trying to blow up a hospital and is wondering why the grand finale did not go off as expected:

Joker in nurses uniform blowing up a hospital

This is one of my favorite movies and while all of the performances are great, Heath Ledger was scary good as the Joker. This is not necessarily my favorite scene (or even my favorite scene with Heath Ledger in it), but it popped to mind immediately for the assignment because it is non-verbal and short.

This assignment was a bit more technically challenging than I was expecting. I am doing my work on a Linux laptop (Lubuntu 16.04 LTS) and tried to use the instructions found at Creating Animated GIFs with (free) Open Source Software. My first challenge was that link to the the YouTube downloader http://www.fastestvideodownloader.com/ is dead. The substitute I found for Linux was youtube-dl, but when I installed it using the native package manager (apt-get), it did not work. Luckily this is a fairly well known problem and the wget instructions from this link worked fine. (The video itself came from here).

Next, I discovered that the MPEG Streamclip tool for converting the video to a series of images is only for Windows and Mac. I tried to use my favorite video editor (openshot) to do this but even though the feature exists it was producing a single MP4 file instead of a series of images. Again, I found that this is a known issue with newer versions of Openshot (I’m using 2.3.4) and was able to produce the image files with an older version (1.4.3). I also have Kdenlive installed but have never really used it, but I did confirm it can also produce an image sequence. It may be time to switch.

In any case once I had the images I was able to use Gimp as described in the handbook (by importing the images as layers) to produce the GIF above. I’m please with the result, but if I wanted to spend more time I would figure out how to get rid of the nasty letterbox bars above & below.

I took the original video clip from YouTube and assume that falls solidly under “Fair Use”. The post image was drawn by Michelle Clark and downloaded from https://www.flickr.com/photos/indieflickr/2737651689 under this license.

SLC GIF

We gotta focus on scenes like this or we’re gonna remember Heroin Bob. From the movie SLC Punk!, the original, not the new one. Ew.

Channing Tatum

For my 2nd gif assignment I decided to try out the A GIF in time assignment. At first I thought it was going to be hard because I really do not watch movies. I was trying to think of movies people would know just off the back by the character I chose to put in the GIF. Then it came to me Channing Tatum!!! He’s every girls dream right?! Well maybe not to some but He was a very good actor in Dear John which is the photo you see in the beginning of the GIF and then the 2nd photo you see in the GIF is from Magic Mike XXL. I mean how can you not love that movie right? Anyway he was a good actor in that movie as well so that is why I chose him for this assignment.

In order to create this GIF I used google images to find the photos of Channing Tatum from Dear John as well as Magic Mike XXL. I then used GIMP and followed the tutorial from the Summer Week 2 post in order to create the GIF.

You Funny Animal !

For the first gif assignment of the week I decided to do the funny animal gif creation. This dogs face kind of reminded me of the dogs on the bacon treat commercial and that’s why I created this gif. In order to create this gif I downloaded GIMP and followed the tutorial that was posted in the Summer week 2 post and I got the pictures from google images. I’m not even sure if dogs really like bacon but based off of that commercial on tv it seems like they do.
