Bon Jovi 1984

This week, I decided to do a visual assignment and I wanted to keep the 80s theme going. The goal of this assignment was to photoshop me at a concert. I chose Bon Jovi for two reasons, first because I love this picture and second because it goes along with the 80s theme.

Enjoy this photo!

Living out my Childhood

For my final assignment this week, I decided to go with Concert You Want To Be At. When I found this assignment, I was so excited to try my skills out at photo shopping. I love music and especially going and seeing musicians live! So I decided to put myself in a concert from the 80s.

As I mention in my first post about the 80’s , I grew up listen to different 80s rock band in the car with my dad. This made me want to put myself in a concert, with an 80s rock band!

The first thing I did was to find a picture of the band ACDC that would be a good back drop for me to insert a picture of myself onto. I look for a couple minutes and finally landed on this picture of and ACDC concert.

Once I had found this photo, my next step was taking a photo of myself that would work on this photo. This task was a little more complicated than I originally thought it would be. I took a couple of different ones, but ended up with this as my final picture.

Now that I had both of my pictures, I was time to lay them over each other. I do not have any previous background with photoshop or anything like this, so this was a lot hard than I thought it would be. I first cropped the photo of myself and then pasted the photo onto the background of the concert. This was my final outcome!

This project challenged me in a lot of different ways, but I am glad that I got to expand my skill set and got be creative!

Creepy Eyed Ferris

In keeping with my theme for the week – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – I decided to make an adjustment to movie poster. I followed the assignment details from the “Creepy Anime Eye” under the Visual Assignments in the DS 106 Assignment Bank.

While this assignment was easy and didn’t take long, I really enjoyed being able to play around in Photoshop. It has been a long time since I’ve used photoshop to make significant changes to photos. There are a lot of cool features to Photoshop that I never knew, like easily editing facial features.

Enjoy this rather creepy depiction on the Ferris movie poster!

Did I do thatttt?!

Oh yes, anime characters with big bug eyes can be creepy. Because it’s not proportional at all on the characters. And it would be even creepier on human beings as you can see with Steve Urkel and Laura Winslow. Look how creepy this is! For the 80s theme culture, I chose Family Matters which was a very famous sitcom in the black community. I remember watching this show and falling in love with the character Steve Urkel. A very funny character whose catch-phrase was “Did I do that?” So for the title, I used his catchphrase indicating who changed his eyes. The world may never know. To make the eyes pop out I used Pixlr which is a photo editor. I loaded the image and then used Liquify to enlarge the eyes.

i was born in the wrong generation

“I was born in the wrong generation” is such a cliche thing to say, but sometimes it’s truly how I feel. I don’t remember when my love for Queen began, but I know they’ve always had a special place in my heart (and the hearts of many I know). I’ve watched the movie (Bohemian Rhapsody, 2018) at least four times; it’s one of the movies I believe I could never get tired of and highly recommend it! The actor who played Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) even won an Oscar, and it was so well deserved.

Did you spot me in this picture though? I think it would have been a lot better if I had Photo Shop, but I used an app on my phone called “PicsArt”, and it did well for an iPhone app in my opinion.

Here I imagine myself  watching Queen perform “Don’t Stop Me Now”, my favorite song by them. I’m truly envious of anyone who got to experience Queen in concert!

Weekly Assignment – Google vs. Me

Looking thru the Assignment Bank on Google Draw Something for the third assignment, I thought this one would be fun since I’m not that much of a drawer and to beat google. It was fun, I didn’t know what was to come next on the drawing board. You only get 20 seconds to draw and google guesses, try it!

bucket list inspo

I’ve been working on my bucket list for about a year now, and even though there’s a decent (and typical) amount of things on it, I figure this will never be an exhaust of list because I’m always coming up with things that I want to do, and even sometimes I fail to write things down. I wonder how many times I’ve mentally told myself I really want to do or experience something, and then forget to take note of it…tragic!

I keep the list in the note app on my phone, because what’s a better way to store snippets of my ideas than with something that I always have glued to my side. I think if I lost my phone, I’d mostly be disappointed mainly because of everything I keep in my notes and then the photos. Perhaps for most people it would be the latter, but my notes consist of my thoughts, ideas, dreams (both actual dreams I’ve had while sleeping and those I want in life), things I want to buy or need in the future and so much more…it would be like losing a limb. Regardless of this, I’m letting you take a peek at my bucket list because I’m proud of it, I’ve included the items I’ve already done, and I’m hoping it can inspire you too.

P.S. – there isn’t any particular order/ranking

1.) Sky diving (how typical)

2.) Color Factory – New York, USA

3.) Artech House D.C. – (This should be an easy one, and I need to take advantage of the fact that I go to school so close to our capitol!)

4.) Learn to play piano

5.) Learn to skateboard

6.) Ride a motorcycle

7.) Shoot a gun

8.) Go to a protest/march

9.) see the northern lights

10.) Travel – England, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Iceland, Hawaii, Washington

11.) Cliff diving

12.) Make a yearly video of all the memories from that year

Assignment Bank 1

For this particular assignment I let my squirrel-like attention span lead the way. While scrolling though the “Fanfic Assignments” when a Bob’s Burger’s writing prompt caught my attention . As Bob’s Burgers is one of my favorite shows so I couldn’t resist that particular writing activity, and really, who doesn’t love a good erotic Friend Fiction? Despite my lack of thinking it through, I quickly realized I had made the right choice by selecting that prompt because I had a hoot combining two of my favorite 80’s television shows. What follows below is the background information for my Fanfiction- think of it like the summary printed on the back cover of a book. By keeping it intentionally vague I hope my readers will be able to fill in the remaining story line with their own imagination. Happy reading!

Assignment Bank- #2

The assignment I chose for my second one was under the writing section and it was created by Jim Groom, it was to write a movie review and you can use pictures and GIF’s to describe it, would I give it a thumbs up or down, ratings, etc. Sticking to the 80’s theme I decided to pick a movie from the 80’s and review it.

Movie Review for The Goonies:

The Goonies is a fun filled, family appropriate, adventure, semi-thriller movie. After watching the movie several times I would say that this is one I could continuously watch and still find entertaining and funny. Directed by the wonderful and famous Steven Spielberg, this movie is nothing less than an adventure. Featuring younger children and teenagers it appeals to a middle school through adulthood based viewer. The children who label themselves as the “Goonies” find themselves discovering the long held town secret, looking for pirates buried gold. What they didn’t estimate was the way they were going to come about this journey and what it would take them through, and who would be joining them. After being gone for a day or so their parents start to worry about them, and for a good reason. An underground adventure with traps, criminals chasing them, lost golds and treasures leads to a bond between these kids. Overall I would recommend this movie for children or teens but I would say it is appropriate for a family movie night as well. It is funny, thrilling, but also cute.

Dream House

For the first assignment bank option of the week I chose one that told us to create a pinterest board for your dream room. Since the theme for the course is the 80’s I thought it would be very simple to create a 80’s themed room, and cool too. This was very different them my normal style which is a more grey, white, tans, simple but chic kind of vibe. I like white in rooms as it brightens it up, some plants but modern as well. With creating this board I found that it was simple since I have been using pinterest for years and even ended up using an account I made in middle school for a school project. Pinterest is so simple because all of the pictures and ideas were there, you just have to save them. I would describe my 80’s themed room as a typical girls room. I have A LOT of neon. I think neon is a really cool theme and I actually want a neon sign for my room I just haven’t been able to find one so that is something I wanted to incorporate. So yes, this room screams NEON. Also a very teenage girl vibe, posters everywhere, mirrors, makeup, clothes racks and posters. I wanted to make it a fun vibe since I wouldnt normally do this for my room. One cool touch I saw was the idea for the windows, they are tainted neon colors but can flip open to let fresh air in, and they also spread across one huge wall. I think as a teen in the 80’s this would be easy and a good idea for sneaking out so of course I had to incorporate it because that is what I think about with the 80s. The posters covering the walls of bands and popstars scrams 80’s to me along with stickers. I will be adding more as the week goes on but if you want to take a look here is the link to the pinteresst board. I really liked this assignment because I am familiar with the application and I go on pinterest and save things a lot in my own free time.
